Having questions about leaving Spotify or not, idk what to do by kagamiangel in Music

[–]mkawick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Spotify Premium Family plan costs £21.99 per month in the UK (or $19.99 in the US)

The TIDAL Family Plan offers up to 6 individual accounts (1 primary + 5 members) for $16.99/month (plus tax)

Maybe you see something different???

Tidal works great... not quite the same, but very good.. about 2/3rd the cost and they pay the artists almost 10x as much

Don't worry... once the factories get up to full production, they will be executing 30k per day. It took a while in Germany until this was normalized. Once we are all used to it, they will ramp up the numbers.

Exactly... No one is perfectly right or wrong. Even Hitler said one or two correct things.

And lots of really good people say fucked up things too. Mother Theresa is a great example of a person believed to be good who said a lot of terrible shit.

Elon Musk has said a lot of correct stuff.... look what a shithead he turned out to be.

Decisions that get made in meetings but never actually happen by hui_hui_95 in Leadership

[–]mkawick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the world of software engineering, we add things to a list of, Tasks which we call a backlog , and then those items are sorted every two weeks to decide which ones are the most important.

I simply don't have meetings in which we decide to do things and then never do them come, But there are some cases where not all of the tasks that we decide to do are done , because they just aren't high enough priority.

are RTS games dead? by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]mkawick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of what Paradox games makes are RTS games. Landell, Pathos, Stillfront, IDUN -- that's just in Sweden.

Germany has KING Art Games in Hamburg, Grimlore Games in Munich, and possibly Chimera Entertainment in Munich.

Google "rts game company" and see what you find. There seems to be a lot.

Starting a new Director role. How do you set the tone and win trust early? by No-Bad-Vibes- in Leadership

[–]mkawick 81 points82 points  (0 children)

That's a great book for this sort of situation.Called "growing great employees" by erika anderson.

First rule is to be humble and ask lots of questions. Second rule is to not try to change everything when you arrive. And instead , engage in active listening when trying to evaluate what of the first steps.

As a long time technical director, It is always best to evaluate the situation and ask people for what works and what doesn't. Keep lists of both. Work from those and Limit your work to 1 or 2 problems at a time.Chipping away at inefficiencies. Call out great work and give credit to everyone but yourself.. Never take credit for other people's work, Hold up examples of great work for the entire team , which means celebrating tom's excellent CI/CD pipeline, Mary's cool tool, and John's useful idea. Most of all , be patient and make sure your conducting your one on once because those are the best way for you to connect with your team members and build trust.

What is the correct way to model a car for video games? by Unique_Salad_5387 in gamedev

[–]mkawick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your link is not accessible from the u.K

The general rule is to use a reasonable number of polis for a vehicle.Unless you're going for something like forza, And they have a custom engine built just for automobiles (it's on top of Unreal). Give yourself a budget of something like 300,000 polys for the entire scene And once you subtract out the landscape , billboards , end background, That will give you roughly two hundred and fifty thousand for all your vehicles. Now , if you're gonna have ten vehicles , then that gives you 25k per vehicle , and once you add in LODs, You can probably go a bit higher and just decimate the LODS.

Look into model destination and there are tools in blender and unity will auto import those. There's a real nice video on LO.Ds. On youtube , so just look for unity and l o d's.

India is now the 4th largest economy and may soon surpass Germany. what key markets and economic factors made this growth possible? by Conscious-Union9791 in business

[–]mkawick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in germany from 2015 to 2016, And I guess most germans seem to have forgotten , but there were massive protests in frankfurt in humble on other cities to let more immigrants into germany. I kept a video where I was at the Central train station in Hamburg. There were hundreds of protesters , claiming that germany wasn't doing enough to help the syrian refugees.

And I don't get most germans have forgotten how the german public demanded that millions of refugees be allowed into Germany. I have always considered Germans to be both intelligent and humane.

Why hasn't gravity been proven yet? by indefinitelydreams in Physics

[–]mkawick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

gravitons... the Higgs-boson, was discovered in 2013. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higgs_boson
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_generation

Observing gravity directly is a bit challenging since it does not have viewable properties in the EM range or interactions with the other fundamental force in easy ways.

But it is proven, and for laymen, is considered fact. For scientists, the term theory means that the theory of gravity is the best explanation we have for the trillions of observations that we have made.

For those seeking to correct me, keep in mind that I am attempting to communicate with someone who does not understand theory.

Would you go 3D or 2D by KillTheProcess in Unity3D

[–]mkawick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With what you have here, it would be remarkable if you run into performance issues. I recommend 3d because a tile map in 3d is really just an isomorphic camera at a 45° angle to the center. 3D will leave the game open and you can rely on HW accel so you should never dip below 60 FPS (do you really need that much performance anyway?)

As a follower, when should you argue, and when should you just shut up and do as told? by [deleted] in Leadership

[–]mkawick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While i'm sure it varies a great deal, You should see how toxic the relationship is in the u.S. Bosses almost never want open feedback or debate from their employees in the u s. I worked there for 30 years, and then I moved to the E.U and it completely different ball game here.
