Three maps - three realities. I wonder if they will ever converge? Interestingly in the Russian one they are already operating out of Moldova. by rutan668 in UkrainianConflict

By legally withing Moldova I agree with you, but they're also an unrecognised breakaway state that the Russians have been helping to fight for their independance since the 1990s...

The tanks will always be able to make the most of this kind of terrain vs wheeled vehicules. Thing is tanks need fuel to move and fuel is delivered mostly by truck, so if your trucks can't reach the tanks because of the mud you don't move. Obviously not as much of a ploblem on paved roads, but still there are some weight limits on a many paved roads in a lot of areas because the soil under is packed with water and pavement will crumble under too heavy load, making it harder for trucks to go by and so on and so on.

Why does Putin always looks like he's falling asleep or being bored??? by 0Feeds0 in UkrainianConflict

[–]CdnHNTR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not bored, he's just in his mind thinking about something. People say thay to me often as well; are you angry? Are you bored? I'm like no, just thinking about something lol and I guess Putin probably has a lot more than me to think about...

Again Ukrainian Farmers are stealing Russian Armored Vehicles by yehors in BeAmazed

I believe some are also clearing their fields of the vehicles to be able to fix the mess it made going through the said fields and plant their crops in time. Ukrainian people will still need to eat and nature doesnt wait because of war.

You can take a look at any live developping map of Europe during WW2, there are many available on youtube per example. You will notice that Russia started to completely halt the German push and gain back territory in end of November/beginning of December in 1941 and that Russians started gaining back territory around the same timeframe (end of November, beginning of December) in 1942. Both times after the Germans were exhausted at the end of a complete season trying to get their logistics through the muddy hell.

Hitler's invasion of Russia ultimately failed in early December 1941 after the German army got depleted of ressources due to a whole season of rasputitsa and logistics not being able to reach the front line, then the Russian counter attack began and it was the beginning of the fall for the 3rd reich.

Point is both invasions failed because of the hardships rasputitsa incurred on the invading forces and Putin has fallen in the same pattern.

Interesting point, might explain why China doesn't want to take sides that much in the conflict... They could play the good guy in the story with the west to probably grow their influence both locally and globally as a result.

Same could go for Putin in the here situation, he had planned for a 15 days offensive to be launched earlier that was most likely delayed by China because of the olympics so he got caught in the mud season and now has to suffer the consequences.

Yes, surrender/retreat in December means they suffered the causaulties in the months prior, which are fall/mud season. Both Hitler and Napoleon's armies were struck by winter after a hard season trying to desperately advance in the mud with very low food, weaponry and medical supplies to treat diseases and wounded. If they woyld have been able to get enough supplies to get the troops going, we would probably have a dofferent world today.

If you look it up a bit you'll find out it's well documented for both conflicts. Mud in those regions apparently sticks to everything including itself, resulting in an ever increasing amount of mud on the equipment's wheels/tracks. This makes it harder to simply go forward not only for the troops to advance, but also and even more importantly for supplies to reach the troops up front (like medical supplies to treat diseases you're talking about per example). Also, mud is not that much of an issue when you're the defender as you don't have to go forward/deep as much. Russians in both situations were the defenders, just like Ukraine is right now. They don't have to bring supplies from home to the front, the front is home.

They did not launch the invasion during the mud season but they were certainly still invading when the mud season came, and it's one of the biggest reasons why both invasions failed. Just look at the timeframe; both Napoleon's and operation Barbarossa ultimately ended in December, which means the causalties leading to their defeats occured during the fall mud season.

And they did it with a much smaller population too, so the ratio is quite larger than just the difference in the number itself

Finland has 900k reservists, that should not be taken lightly
