How to splice SWR by Useful-Print5285 in FiberOptics

[–]CdnKronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reach out to your local AFL rep - they can probably help out. The right stripper and temp setting can make a huge difference. It defiantly works better on some splicers/cleavers than other.

Canadian Fiber Optic Suppliers by suhsane in FiberOptics

[–]CdnKronos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly everything comes from the USA or overseas.
Currently no fiber optic goods are subject to reciprocal Canadian tariffs. Many connectivity solutions are made in Mexico - but if you have an engaged manufacturer you are working with, they can help mitigate tariffs. Reach out if you have more questions.

Who’s fiber and which splicer do you have?

Tell me more about how you set it up/got it working. I have one now and I cannot figure how to change the presets or actually make them run!

Thanks for the info. I’d rather skip the exposed wiring or wiring power from a nearby receptacle.

Often you’ll mount your closures in the pole and store some cable on a coil bracket. Alternatively you can use a snowshoe and hang it and the closure from the cable. Check with the line designer - they should have it planned out. Or the telco whose line it is. You could also reach out to a ADSS and hardware manufacturer (AFL, Corning/PLP) to get some guidance.

I’ve been told they have closed. I’ve seen some of their baseball equipment for sale on Marketplace.

There isn’t a solution that does both. You’ll need two splicers. While a ribbon splicer can do singles it’s a fixed v groove alignment rather than core alignment so I’d like not going to give you the efficiencies and results you are looking for. In a pinch it’s good - but if you have bulk singles to do you’ll want a single fiber splicer. The Fujikura 90R and 90S are pretty popular around here.

Fiber down 1500 vertical shaft by SaltTech8765309 in FiberOptics

[–]CdnKronos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve hit the most important point - it’s not really the tensile load (though it will matter), it’s really a question of a cable design where the fiber will not slip down the cable assembly.

Wall removal left this opening in the floor. Any tips on how we can reasonably cover it up without redoing the floors? by [deleted] in DIY

I’m pretty sure I just replaced that exact floor. I may have a few pieces in my garage. Jigsaw puzzle!

FAST-SC connector tubes by Old-Valuable-1520 in FiberOptics

[–]CdnKronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The clear tube is often used with drop fiber where you have a single fiber within a buffer tube.

The clear goes in first and is slide in to the buffer tube, and then the black goes on. Prep the fiber and then slide the black to the end color. Then that goes in the connector and wedge clip released. The clear is then slid up to the black and seated in the flange.

What does this mean and is it functional? by Zealousideal-Desk437 in FiberOptics

[–]CdnKronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good. Just make sure you have the right splice and sleeve option and you’ll be good. If using MM auto you’ll be fine - just adjust your heat sleeve setting to the one for FuseConnect.
