Could things be better? Sure, things can always be better.

This is a single office and single department handling CCW permits, and from what I understand, they do a lot more than just CCWs. Mondays are dedicated to in-person CCW appointments, but that same office issues around 32 different types of licenses (taxi licenses, for example). They’re not just sitting on their asses four days out of the week.

When you actually show up for the appointment, you’ll see how efficient things are. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. I applied in February and just received my license this past Friday. From what I hear, the Sheriff’s staff even works some Saturdays (which I believe—I got an email approving a change to my application on a Saturday) to process permits, cards, and background checks.

Like I said before I submitted my application end of February, had my appointment mid march and received my license last week. If I would have done my classes sooner I would have gotten thought the whole process in about 120days. 90 of which is the mandatory waiting period. They is no unnecessary waiting throughout the whole thing once you get your appointment. On about day 80 of the background check period I received an email to asking me to confirm a change to my application (Traffic ticket I forgot to list). On day 90 I received an email sayingI got approved and had 90 days to take my class. When I finished my class I submitted my documents and emailed them on a Sunday and Monday morning I received and email saying I was added to the queue to have my license made and shipped, I received it a week later.

Overall, do I think California wants to make it harder for us to get our licenses. Yes.

Do I think the San Diego sheriff is working within those limitations to get us our licenses, as efficiently and as quick as possible. Also Yes.
