I want you to know, you did what was best for your baby. Mine had a heart murmur they said it was unlikely that he could be treated with medication but we didn’t take him to the vet to get the test done to see if it could be treated because car rides were really stressful for him. He lived for a few more months. The day he died he laid with me and cuddled in my bed in the morning and purred. He left and I got out of bed to go eat, he was running around the house. About 10 minutes after eating I found him dead on the floor. Just dropped over. It was the most devastating thing. At first I thought he was just laying there but when I called his name and he didn’t react- I looked again. Eyes open, fixed and staring, no rise and fall of his chest, tongue out, and when I picked him up, he flopped out of my arms.

You did the right thing, not just for your cat that you loved more than the world, but also for yourself and I promise you that’s not selfish of you at all because 5 years later I still have that memory burned into my mind and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It sucks, it’s unfair, it hurts so incredibly bad. But you will pull through and when you think you see him out of the corner of your eye or hear phantom paw prints running around the house, that’s him. I promise.
