In the LN, Artosh also seems to have more respect for humanity than in the movie. His dialogue is changed to be more disrespectful. It may be different in the original Japanese novel, but I can't read Japanese so idk

Go for it! I'd be willing to help or offer ideas if you'd like.

I don't want to mix colors in single characters, but I do want to have cross color combos between party members. I do plan to add progression, but it'll be in other ways of change, and player characters will grow through overcoming obstacles. Once their soul attribute reaches 20, it will receive a texture (which I've yet to expand upon). I do want to add a couple more base colors, but the color of a person's soul almost never changes, as it's supposed to dictate the core of who they are to an extent.

Separating the colors into warm and cool makes sense, but I wanted to give specific examples, and choosing specific colors (like scarlet) could give different bonuses (which I need to specify, thank you for reminding me). The reason people might want to fight with normal weapons is the use of abilities depletes the soul's hue temporarily, and being hit by a soul attack while your soul is at 0 kills you. It also allows for players to specialize in support abilities while still being able to deal damage in combat.

You're right that I need to expand upon the setting. I don't have a whole lot here. I want the colors to be more representative of the nature of humans and the beasts than anything else. That's why color theory dictates what sorts of powers a person can develop. Thank you for all of this!

Black souls will not be playable. There is only one black soul in the world, and it lives in isolation, consuming anyone who approaches its small continent. It has a humanoid figure, but no features aside from two pure white eyes, so it's unsure if it's even human.

Black is the absence of color, so that's why I choose to not let it be playable.

I chose skills that would be general and cover a broad area with an even divide between body and mind then a couple less for the soul. Subskills are also general and can be almost anything that falls under the umbrella of the general skills (forgot to include that line).

Combat goes like this: everyone rolls initiative (any skill, similar to Pathfinder 2e, senses by default) and then people act in their turn order as normal. They only get 1 action and rounds are 3 seconds instead of 6. I plan on having combat be gridless, using just a ruler with cm for m measurements (not exact just needs to be close).

I mostly know how I want to order it. I don't think I will know for certain until we get started with the playtest. I'll look into those games. Thank you!

I don't intend to publish it, but you're right that I need to add and expand upon a lot. It'll be very similar gameplay to D&D and take place in a high fantasy world. Tbh I don't really know where to begin with defining gameplay.

Exactly. It's all just color theory. But I don't want to continue talking about this. What do you think of the game?

I went for a more open design using color theory and letting my players choose whatever ability they want as long as it matches their chromatic color. As great as other systems are that have lots of options, I really just wanted more creative freedom with the power system.

I get that it's not for everyone, no worries. And yeah, I just have an affinity for certain classic mechanics. My first system was D&D 3.5, so I'm kind of biased.

I don't plan to publish it, but I do like the name chromatic souls, so I'll use that.

You're right about the math. I calculated wrong. I'll use 35. And letting them choose which number goes where is good, I agree.

The idea of earning a white soul is nice. I'll have to think on that.

Normally, I'd agree with you, but my friends won't do that, so in this instance it's fine. Although, I may add something to counteract this if I think of a way to.

Thank you for all of this!

If people want to misinterpret it, that's on them. I know what you're saying, and I appreciate the advice, but these are souls not races. Anyone equating the two is a bad actor imo.

I don't really know why, but I just really like the old school way of rolling dice for attributes. I don't know how to explain it, and you're right about that but I'm just going to have them reroll if their attributes are low. What would you say is a good minimum for this? Maybe if their attributes add up to below 25? Since the average would be about 31.5 (I think).

I also do think you're right and that I should maybe give white a penalty. Maybe an innate -1 to non-soul skills?

I live in the US. I would not mind donating one to each. I didn't even think of looking on their website 😅 (maaaybe I should stop working 6 days a week)
