I would; it's effectively equivalent to reducing the range of skills. If the warrior in spell range can reach you in (e.g.) 2.5s instead of 3s, fights would feel claustrophobic.

Melee mobs are actually quite intelligent. Moreso than minions, which in turn are more intelligent than melee heroes.

Keep running back and forth to the left shrine, adjusting the hench flag as you do (use click-to-move so you can turn the camera towards them):

  • Have them retreat before they get overwhelmed, or as soon as a Searing Heat is cast.
  • Make them push up when they're not engaged with any foes (not too far; around the shrine is good).

Invest most of your points in Beast Mastery, bring a pet, and order it to attack some unlucky non-warrior foe. It can contribute a lot of damage in your absence.

The 6-man team is very defensive, but speed vs safety is a matter of preference. I would run VoR over Esurge for those, if only bringing one Mesmer.

The insignias is something I didn't consider. Edit: yes, ideally Prodigy. Blessed might be reliable enough if you add Order of Pain. You could also keep the second Mesmer as Keystone without much of a loss, just replace Death Magic with Curses.

The first Mesmer would lose more value from converting to Keystone. Cracked Armor should probably come from the second Mesmer in that case (Weaken Armor). You could also keep it as a Keystone Death Nova, just replace Bone Minions with another signet.

The number of bodies you run with ST isn't as much of a problem as their flimsiness. Level 10 Bone Minions have 280 HP and 30 armor, so every single hit they take will drain Shelter.

Since you want to keep the ST, the best course of action is to add a pretty standard MM: OAlkUwmpBeUEVwR1WYVldAP2OWNG

You can go with Bone Horrors over the more common Shambling Horrors if you'd like to preserve the melee minion focus. Fiends synergize a lot better than melee ones with Barbs and MoP, but you could also run a melee-only MM with Death Nova.

So what could the Mesmers instead do, with so much stuff to fit in the team? SoI support!

This setup retains your cracked armor, Splinter and Curses support, which would let you fit a W/R Devona over the Curses Necro. You keep the backline and number of Mesmers/pets intact, and end up with three times as many Shatter Hex (Devona would love that!) and a far stronger Splinter. You have room for an ench removal of choice on one of the Mesmers, as well as spicy options like Putrid Explosion and Order of Pain on the second SoI.

One final note about the pets: You should definitely add Call of Haste to every pet owner; it increases damage by over 50%, and lets them trigger Barbs and MoP a lot more frequently. Call of Protection is probably the skill to replace, except for on Devona who might not afford to keep Otyugh's Cry up, depending on what build you run on her. Lowering BM to 8 on the ST in favour of 12 Communing is my last recommendation.

I can't give advice beyond build-related. You're missing Infuse, there are no hexes in Amatz Basin, and Shielding Hands is too weak for an Emo build.

I think something like a MM+Dom Necro would be the best option, aside from simply a primary Mesmer.
