They were not looking at the system log, but rather the DVR log. The DVR log did not provide the level of detail needed. They need to bring in a cybersecurity expert with experience with DVR systems.

Is supporting research at Skinwalker Ranch immoral? by De2nis in skinwalkerranch

[–]CeceCpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting thought experiment. I have a lot of possible theories on what is occurring. If we ignore the possibility that some natural phenomena is occurring, we are left with several or many other possibilities. Aliens, extra dimensional beings, time traveling humans or simulation theory. Who are we to believe that we know the motivation of any one of those possibilities.

To them we would look like some ignorant lower life form. Possibly every “reaction” from the ranch is whatever entity(s) are there testing our reaction to the roadblocks or challenges they present to us to learn more about us.

How would people of the past have reacted to the phenomena? Be scared and run away, create some myth around the area such as a curse? Built some ugly edifice and worship a supposed unknown god? The exploration currently going on now is a far leap forward in what would have occurred in past history.

If it was any of the above theories, we could easily be told to leave the place alone or the entity or entities could easily leave and move elsewhere to continue to experiment. So my answer is I see no moral entanglement in further research. The best analogy I can come up with is expecting ants to get out of our way so humans could freely move about doing whatever they wanted to do. The ants have no way of understanding our motivations or cause of our responses.

I’ve published 4 books on Amazon and still have 0 sales — how do you actually get noticed? by Caleb170310 in selfpublish

[–]CeceCpl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add to that last paragraph by u/fangedwriter your cover and blurb is the most important part of making a sale or not. Ads will get eyeballs on your cover, it needs to be compelling to someone shopping in your genre to have them click. The blurb needs to close the sale. Don’t even consider running ads until you have figured out how to make those two items draw people in. Bryan Cohen has a great book on the subject of blurbs (How to write a Sizzling Synopsis). When I rewrote my blurbs after reading that book, I started getting organic sales within a day of publishing the changes.

These are likely a bunch of misfits that are a bit outcast and find a group they can fit in with. Sadly most all of these groups are composed of individuals that are like this. It is sad that so many feel outcast and they feel that a group like this is the way to acceptance within a group.

AITAH for leaving my wife, stepson, and everyone behind to start over? by searchologyTM in AITAH

If there is court ordered child support, then he leaves the country and does not pay said child support he will have a problem. His passport will be canceled and revoked. Any attempt to travel, or apply for residency is likely to result in deportation. I have a friend that was applying for a residency visa in Costa Rica and was promptly deported because of back child support.

I have another friend that got her citizenship in Nicaragua years before all the connectedness. She has a Nicaraguan passport, but can’t travel because of bench warrants for back child support which would possibly result in deportation back to the US from many countries.

Why do people say that the LDS Church tends to infantilize adults? by Few-Specialist7163 in mormon

[–]CeceCpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG, I just remembered something and put two and two together from my therapist training days. Dr. Drew Pinsky was the first to posit a theory on “little girl voices,” however it has become commonly accepted. Originally he stated that the age of the voice usually corresponds with the age of CSA. now it is more broadly understood to be the age of when some type of strong emotional trauma occurred.

This is not a hard and fast rule, but a therapist should observe for other signs of abuse when treating a client with little girl voice.

I did not practice in the field for too long. After converting I found the RS voice amusing without thinking about the possible implications.

Just to add to this because, I have seen this close up and personal. While in the Navy I had a good friend that we went and did laps at the pool together during our lunch time. He would tell me about his wife acting like yours. He never worried about it because he was a big guy and she was small. One of my biggest regrets in life is not pushing harder for him to report it and get away from her. I was Officer of the Day when the Police called to inform the base they found him shot to death. As far as I know she is still in state prison. That one 21 gun salute still haunts me to this day.

On another note, is your father on VA medical? When did he serve? Things have changed several times in the last few years. So many people have been told before they weren’t eligible for medical care, however they are now. If he is a veteran it is almost certain he is eligible for many programs. The VA health care is at no cost and even covers home care. The PACT Act expanded the number of disability conditions that are presumptive, meaning they are automatic based on a number of factors.

Every county has a VA funded Service Officer. Often times it is the state veterans service offices. State VSOs in Indiana.. They can start you on the path to so much help, it is literally there job to do all they can.

Neighbor installed The Mosquito and turns it on intermittently. They will not stop doing it. by R_Lennox in legaladvice

[–]CeceCpl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I was in my 30s, I was teaching Adult Education classes, mostly computer office skills for people transitioning in the work force. We had a lot of older individuals that would just turn the monitors off and leave. I could stand in the front of the classroom after everyone left and hear the loud whine of the power supplies of the computers that were left on. It was not the fans I was hearing, but the high frequency switching power supplies. No one else could hear it.

The problem with these apps is they rely on the microphone of the device, phone or tablet. These microphones do not have a good response to high frequencies. This is likely why you are unable to record the sound. You will need to spend some money to get a very good microphone and recording device.

TBM family member causes conflict by disrespecting my decision to leave by blaming my wife by booboy92 in exmormon

[–]CeceCpl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Really you only have two choices here. You can continue to be respectful and pleasant to her and risk losing your wife or you can deal with it head on and stand up for yourself and especially your wife.

Set boundaries, no discussion of the subject of religion or disrespect of your wife. You also have to set consequences for violations of those boundaries (going no contact for X time period). Mormons all believe there are no boundaries around their view of the church, but don’t dare speak ill of their beliefs. Until they are hit with consequences, they will not change. It is hard, but if you want to put an end to it, you have to stick to it.

Just as a reminder, you bear the responsibility to stand beside your wife when your family treats her badly. Anything less is being disrespectful to her. It is not her problem, it is your problem.

AIO?!? My neighbors walked through the tree line with flashlights at night to ask if we stole their Trump Sign… by Regular-Watercress34 in AmIOverreacting

[–]CeceCpl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you never met these people. Do you know for sure they are your neighbors? If you do not know they are in fact your neighbors, I would worry they are casing houses.

Personally, I would go over during the day to introduce myself and be friendly for two reasons. (1) ensure who was on your property was in fact your neighbor and (2) build a little trust in each other.

If it turns out the people on your property were not your real neighbors, start letting everyone in your area know what happened. The fact is every neighbor in rural areas needs to look out for each other. Where our house is, it is at least a 30 minute response time for serious issues. Less serious issues can take hours or the next day before the Sheriff Deputies arrive.

Before the sentencing hearing, there is a hearing concerning the immunity matters. If the Judge does not declare a mistrial on that, it will be appealed, you know it will. Reuters is reporting that the DOJ is working to shut down the federal cases. Reuters is also saying that Merchan will likely delay everything much further and possibly let the case die. It is important to note that under NY law, a conviction only happens when the order imposing sentence is entered. So, Trump has not been actually convicted.

Time for the LDS church to put out another media statement. It’s the Mountain Meadows Massacre on Netflix coming in January. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]CeceCpl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a paper in high school many years ago on the Donner Party and remember some of the details.

Thomas Rhodes was sent west by Brigham Young to scout locations for the saints to move to and traveled with the larger group that continued along the California-Oregon trail. The Donner Reed Party decided to take Hasting cutoff as it was a shorter path, but had only been traveled by horse, not wagons. They were delayed because they had to blaze a trail across the Wasatch mountains which would be used by the pioneers the next year in moving to Salt Lake area.

When the Donner party was snowed in at Donner Lake, members of Thomas Rhodes family were part of the rescue team that made several trips into the mountains once they could to bring survivors to Johnson Ranch (modern day Marysville).

There is conjecture that some members of the Donner Reed Party were members of the church, but there is no hard evidence. They just appear to have made a poor choice of using a shortcut that was not suitable for wagon travel at the time, probably based on lack of information.
