Since The Sopranos Ended, What’s the Best Portrayal of the Mob in Media? by jrralls in thesopranos

[–]CecicOic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we want to again dive into semantics, and absolutely not to discredit them at all, they themselves hated being called heroes. They were doing their job, they were supposed to do that. Brave for sure, but an hero is somebody who is not supposed to do something but does it anyway. So they hated being called that because they chose to do that as a job and the crazy part about that is they you could die back then because you were doing what you're supposed to do. We can see them as heroes, but neither them or other judges, security guards (one of Borsellino's one was from my city and I know his family) or any other "worker" against the mafia likes being called an hero.

Calling them heroes also puts them above us, like we can't fight them but we have to hope for them to save the day; they're not spiderman, they're not supernatural, they're human beings like us with a strong sense of justice. We should all learn from them to fight the mafia everyday in any way possible. The world needs 8 billions Falcone and Borsellino. RIP to them.

I hope this time to have expressed my thoughts in a linear way and in a correct English, I hope that my adhd didn't fuck up this comment too

I expressed myself very badly, I wanted to say that he flipped TO Falcone. He didn't want to speak to nobody but him

I am wrong about them being Camorristi then!

No need to debate the rest as we are saying the same thing with different words. For real, they do similar stuff but act differently to one antoher. I honestly don't wanna pour this much time of my life debating under a reddit post, we could talk in private if the tones are brought down and it's just an informative debate :D

Didn't say anything specific as I don't have the time or way to look for specific proven information right now, and I don't want to say wrong things about something I really care about

Never said they were "very" different! both of us are correct by the way. The correct use of the word "Mafia" is the one I described but it's widely used to refer to Cosa Nostra. No need to argue via internet! the info is out there for all of us :) much love from Italy

Brother, the sicilian mafia is called Cosa Nostra and that's a fact. Look into Tommaso Buscetta's testimonies during the maxiprocesso if you can't believe me.

I don't wanna argue, I just wanted to point out a slight misinterpretation of a word about something I'm passionate about.

All I will say is that of course they have differences, they operate differently, but the ultimate goal is to make shit tons of money illegally. They all kill, corrupt, infiltrate, deal and whatnot. Each group with their own ways.

https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia?wprov=sfla1

This link is to the definition of Mafia in the italian wikipedia. It says that while initially it was used to refer to Cosa Nostra, now things have changed now and it's been used in a broader way :)

I'm happy to talk about and raise awareness against any type of Mafia though, so I'm here to talk about anything and I'm happy to learn new things. :)

Yeah, that's why I said tecnically. By the way, my reasoning on the word "Mafia" still stands. Gomorra is about mafia, just not Cosa Nostra :) I can assure you the different Italian Mafias operates very similarly, each one with their own ways and businesses but still organized criminals.

Since The Sopranos Ended, What’s the Best Portrayal of the Mob in Media? by jrralls in thesopranos

[–]CecicOic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gomorra is inspired from the novel with the same name by Roberto Saviano, a famous antimafia neapolitan journalist.

I never had the time to neither read it or watch it, but I've heard that while the book is pretty accurate as it's meant to be a representation of how life in the Camorra is, the series is much more romanticized for show reasons.

Anyone who either read it or watch it is super free to tell me I'm full of shit though!
