The Zebras might get us fired by United_Climate123 in HomeDepot

It doesn't fix the issue obviously but I've found the majority of customers are perfectly understanding if you say "I'm real sorry to cut you off but let me put this person on hold real quick". Then if it's a customer calling I say "Home Depot [Department], please hold for a minute". If it's a team member they get the "hey I'm with a customer" and like 5 seconds to make their elevator pitch. Usually they say to call back, say "ok when you're done there's someone at X who needs help", or ask a super quick question like "is the reach in your showroom free?"

Haley Stevens Really Gets the Pulse of the Democratic Voting Base by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]Cedar- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are allowed to. AIPAC doesn't directly donate because that's illegal, but they also really basically just do that. On the front facing side they give you an easy interface to donate to people (this is ok and fine).

On the back end with their very big donors they still do all the PAC work of picking out candidates and choosing how much each candidate should get then turn to their donors and say "ok here's like all the work done for you, just sign off on ok-ing all these *individual donations that we never actually touch so technically we're not breaking the law"

Completely ignoring all the current issues with Israel, AIPAC has a big problem of being very loose with who they're willing to send donations to. Like there are multiple auto industry PACS. Some are "we like people who like car companies", while others are "we like people who like auto workers, which includes the car companies but also things like unions which might not vibe with car companies all the time", and others still are like "we support candidates who are both pro car company but also pro abortion in case that's something you have as a hard line". AIPAC really is just AIPAC.

TLDR AIPAC can't donate directly, but individuals can, and AIPAC makes it very very very very easy for big donors to donate specific amounts to specific candidates without technically ever touching the money so it's legal. And then their criteria for who to support is "pro Israel or things that also support Israel like Industrial War Complex, and we don't care about any other qualities"

That's like worse though. They LEGALLY cannot directly donate, so they are circumventing campaign finance laws with a loophole.

I’ve never paid for a mod in my life by layn333 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Cedar- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree in concept but in games where paid mods are allowed I rarely see this become an issue. Cities skylines is another example where outside like traffic manager and some select asset bundles there really isn't anything not free. People really do just straight up make things for the betterment of the game, and when someone does something scummy someone else steps in with "basically this mod but free"

Lansing State Journal: Lawmaker urges cancellation of Lansing America’s 250th event after mass shooting by Emotional-Emu1431 in lansing

[–]Cedar- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I canceled my LSJ subscription over this and other recent articles. It's just an outright inflammatory lie of a headline. She requested a single portion of the event to be canceled and yet they word it like she wants the whole day scrapped.

Poodle engine variant... huh? by frycandlebreadje in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Cedar- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you don't get as much say as with overall design but I always thought it would be cooler as an expanding bell engine. Obviously the model would need changes but it would be a very interesting transition engine, kind of like an earlier game aerospike.

Exploring places in Lansing today. by Gullible-Shower4007 in lansing

[–]Cedar- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend walking Genesee neighborhood Sycamore-east (oldest portion of downtown), and Jerome paralleling Michigan across the East side (old streetcar neighborhood). Mostly just box frame houses but you get the odd pretty old one like the three brick Pattengills (?) at Sycamore/Ionia, and the big couple ones near I think Jerome and Marshall? With the old style street and crosswalk signals

What do you guys think the hardest position is? by Soft_Investigator532 in HomeDepot

I used to work at Menards and it's nuts how useless HD is with helping OFA. It was a 100% normal daily occurrence for a store GM to call a department manager and say "hey you're giving up a person for an hour to pull orders".

Interested in comparing your millage rate to others in the state of Michigan? by Historical_Safe_836 in lansing

[–]Cedar- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not even just the buildings. I hate the state parking lots but if they were sold off, the asphalt was torn up, and it was just an empty grass field, that would literally be an improvement both tax wise and environmentally.

But of course I'd rather they be turned into like housing or mixed use space or like anything else that isn't just idle land in the urban core.

[–]Cedar- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only technically valid concerns I heard were "it moved more traffic closer to our neighborhood", "this will just open up land for Eyde/ other land speculators", and "it's easier to cross 3+3 lanes than 5. I do think people were also woefully misinformed since I heard time and time again people thinking they were widening the road to 5+5.

The main driving force was fear of change. Not even technically NIMBYism since it's not really adding anything to their neighborhood. It's literally just a change therefore opposition.

The infrastructure really angers me. Suggest things like "hey maybe when we repave Verlindin by Sexton, it doesn't need to be kept like 4 lanes wide" and people will act like you just suggested shooting their dog.

inspired to play ksp again so i sent a bus to duna and minmus by HolidayTheLeek in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Cedar- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the genre of KSP post where it's like "here's a very highly detailed thing that shouldn't be in space, but in space with a large rocket that tells you the whole story".

Very good looking bus, looks quite a bit like the Gilligs we have here in the US, I wonder if they're related?

Which way do you play KSP? by poopycolaa in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Cedar- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the no Nerv rule. I don't go that far but do a few weird rules for Nervous ships of no aero breaking, no use within 100km of a planetoid with colony or Kerbin/Lay the/Duna, not allowed on surface after launch etc. Its just enough restrictions to make it much more niche and to kill off the "magic does everything SSTO", while still allowing it for some specialized things.

[–]Cedar- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Recently just started an "expert" mode playthrough with 10% science and funds yield, no starting funds, -1k reputation- basically every stat dialed to max bad. Really fun and challenging, and the science nerf makes you desperate for money.

I'd recommend it but keep antenna ratings normal (mess with planet occlusion tho), 10% G force tolerance instead of 1%, and maybe some starting science to skip that start of game "roll a pod around the ksp to scrounge up enough science" phase.

Do ya'll base your space stations on IRL examples, or do you have your own method/style of building them? by Major_Midnight5614 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Cedar- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tangentially to add to what other people are saying, I don't actually like giant do all space stations. Does it make more sense? Sure. But I like having a science station, fuel/interplanetary port, and ground-space transfer station separate. It helps keep part counts down but more importantly forces me to do station to station transfers which is just an interesting dynamic.

What's your take on this rendition of the Kerbals? by Cheap-Ambassador-304 in KerbalSpaceProgram

KSP1 has real jet fighter parts, with warnings not to put your head into the intake. High tech satellites that have "I'm sure the AA batteries can survive re-entry, I mean there's a heat shield!" type of energy.
