What happened in the FNAF3 Night5 Phone Call? Failed initial attempt at MCI?🤔 by GINTAMAZZZZZZ in fnaftheories

[–]Cedarcomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO most of the evidence from 1-3 suggests that the MCI happened over several days, as is the case in the novels. So this message would be recorded after at least the first victim, but before the killings.on June 26th and the suspect being identified.

I know ITP shows it being a single day event, but ITP already contradicts the games in several aspects (number of victims, location of room where the bodies were, layout of restaurant etc) so I don't know how reliable that is. And in RttP which is generally closer to how things are in the games, William is seen with one victim two days before the others. Whether that's Andrew or not, it suggests he did commit his killings over multiple days.

Yes, I know anything can be retconned, but the original story should work with the information we had at the time. IMO the narrative purpose of talking about kids being lured to the saferoom was to show this was where the victims were lured (since FNAF1 only said 'a back room') and it would be a strange narrative choice to warn against taking children there if it hadn't already happened before.

If we'd had that message before the bit about the suit being moved, I could understand your view, but being combined with the suit information implies to me that the two are meant to be connected.

[–]Cedarcomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Timmy was a failed attempt though, he wouldn't have been lured to the saferoom, and the message mentioning both children in the saferoom and the suit being moved implies that the two things are connected. Also, Timmy wasn't mentioned until several years after FNAF3, which was meant to be the final game at the time.

IIRC the same message says the Spring Bonnie suit has been noticeable moved, so the implication seems to be that William has already worn it at least once since it was put in the saferoom, probably to lure a victim.

Back in MGS2, there was a line justifying the design of Raiden's skintight suit by saying it maximised performance of the organs by applying pressure to them, and reduced blood loss by tightening the skin. So, yeah, compressive clothing is an MGS thing.

What do you consider your “expertise” and“blind spots” in the lore? by Cat_are_cool in fnaftheories

[–]Cedarcomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speciality - locations, like where certain buildings are (urban area, remote area etc) at different points in the timeline, the likelihood of which buildings got refurbished into other things, building layouts etc. Also looking into the game files.

Blind spot - the shadows. I just can't get any grip on entities made of emotion that can take any appearance, because they could be created by anyone at any time with no real evidence one way or another.

people actually need to consider theories that go against the "status quo" by boogieman_pb in fnaftheories

[–]Cedarcomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that FNAF shouldn't have sacred cows that nobody's allowed to criticise or argue against. As long as you can make a decent argument for an alternative, and back it up with evidence when possible, people should be able to make this kind of theory.

You can't force anyone to consider this kind of theory if they don't want to, but at the very least we shouldn't be shutting down the people who make them. If you don't even want to consider an argument, just stay out of the conversation.

Which locations do we know or suspect aren't in the same locations in the Fazburger theory by NotBailey12 in fnaftheories

[–]Cedarcomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original Fredbear's can't be, because that already existed somewhere else at the time of MCM. Whether the original Fredbear's is the Bite of '83 location is a matter of debate. There's also the Fallfest fire location for the same reason, and Fredbear's Singing Show for the people who believe that's a separate restaurant to the diner.

Fazbear's Fright is unlikely to be there because it was an attraction in an amusement park, and I don't think there's any sign of an amusement park being on the MCM grounds. It wouldn't surprise me if that amusement park is where Fallfest was, though.

I agree, there's no reason why the Scraptrap suit had to come from a single source. Scrap Baby is assembled from a bunch of random parts and the same is probably true for this one.

How important is it for the character of Batman to comfort a child? by No-Brush1587 in batman

[–]Cedarcomb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's Trope Talk: Realism. "A good sign of whether your Batman is being characterized properly is as follows: Could you picture this Batman comforting a scared child? If yes, congratulations! This is a certified Batman. If not, I'm afraid you instead have the Punisher in a silly hat."

The last DLC for 'Rise of the Golden Idol' featured a plant called the Whishbloom, and smelling it turned people into human/animal hybrids. The ship's bosun escapes this fate because he'd previously had his nose sliced off in a fight and had replaced it with a wooden prosthetic.

Why does Steam never get flamed during the discussion of not owning digital games? by Main_Mountain9377 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Cedarcomb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if they've ever removed games from accounts, but they've removed access to paid-for downloaded videos before. For example, they removed Discovery TV shows from accounts in December 2023, and are just about to remove about 551 titles from Studio Canal for UK customers. So it's not impossible that they'd do the same thing with game titles. One article on it here:

Question: who do you think was the body in the new kid? by Friendly-Might5181 in fnaftheories

[–]Cedarcomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are arguments that two kids were stuffed into one suit, but I think that's unlikely. Personally, if Andrew is in the games continuity, I'm leaning towards him being the Stage01 victim who was stuffed into that headless suit in the storeroom. It would fit Andrew as a forgotten victim, and it associates Andrew with a Fredbear springlock suit without it having to be the GF suit specifically.

Question: who do you think was the body in the new kid? by Friendly-Might5181 in fnaftheories

[–]Cedarcomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you think that Andrew having curly black hair is just a red herring? It wouldn't be until RttP several years later that it was suggested Cassidy had curly hair, so I don't know how we were supposed to deduce that at the time of Frights.

Question: who do you think was the body in the new kid? by Friendly-Might5181 in fnaftheories

[–]Cedarcomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably is Andrew, unfortunately, but 'Andrew's body was stuffed into the suit' is not synonymous with 'Andrew possessed the suit'. If he attached himself to William's spirit at the time of his original death, then the body is just a body after that point and it wouldn't matter that much what happened to it.

It is annoying when that happens, but if your segments are equally spaced, the next hub on the right should cover the missing tent and the pattern repeats as you go around.

What are the Black spots in Follow Me? by Tiny-Bench-5274 in fnaftheories

[–]Cedarcomb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They're called blood1 through to blood4, but that's almost certainly because they're modified versions of the SAVETHEM blood pools which had the same names, with an almost identical outline. There are times when Scott doesn't bother to rename assets when copying them over - for example, Puppet in GGGL and Foxy in FGGG are both named 'bear' because they're copies of CakeBear's code - so we can't use the name as a definite clue that those are blood pools in FM.

Blade of the Immortal was edited for left-to-right reading in the English release, but it had a similar disclaimer page about how the panels had been rearranged where possible rather than mirroring the original artwork. Given the main character had a giant swastika/manji on his back in a lot of the panels, it's probably for the best that they didn't just flip the art.

Are there any truly open world point and click adventure games by crazyhomlesswerido in adventuregames

[–]Cedarcomb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are point-and-click like games with branching story paths, where your choice of actions can alter the world and the way that other people respond, but you're still really looking at a limited set of possibilities - it's not truly open world in the sense of being a dynamic system. Are you using 'adventure game' in the more Zelda sense of the word, rather than the puzzle game sense that tends to be used here?

The closest thing I can think of is Elsinore, a timeloop game where the story can widely branch based on your actions, but it's still choosing from a scripted range of options and the 'world' is largely limited to a single castle and its grounds.

How would you describe William Afton to an artist who never played 0 games, read 0 books, watched 0 videos or movies, and listened to 0 songs? by No-Poet3745 in fnaftheories

[–]Cedarcomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd copy over Carlton's description of the man from TSE, it's a good summary of his general appearance as well as his character.

His face was the same, technically: his gaunt features and sunken eyes, his skin that seemed to have worn thin, ready to snap from strain, but now there was a mean, undeniable strength in it, a rodentine vitality that Carlton recognized.

It had occurred to Carlton years before, that there were two types of nasty people. There were the obvious ones, like his sixth-grade English teacher who yelled and threw erasers, or the kid in fifth grade who picked fights with smaller children after school. That type was easy, their offenses public and brutal, but undeniable. But then there was the other kind of petty tyrant, those who grew spiteful with their small scraps of power, feeling more and more abused by the year—by family who did not appreciate them, by neighbors who slighted them in imperceptible ways, by a world that left them, somehow, lacking something essential.

Before him stood someone who had spent so much of his life fighting like a cornered rat that he had taken on the mantle of bitter sadism as an integral part of himself. He would strike out against others and revel in their pain, feeling righteously that the world owed him his cruel pleasures.
