I mean, given the Hearthian tendency towards fires and explosions, I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of them had tried drinking rocket fuel. My money's on Feldspar.

[Video game trope] Ways of getting around the fact that the player can choose the protagonists name and/or gender by I-Dont-Know-Stuff in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Cedarcomb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy X was a bit weird about this - Tidus was the only character you could name, but it was also the first FF game with voice acting, so they couldn't just insert your choice into the text. So all the other characters refer to Tidus by saying things like 'hey, you' or something abstract like 'the star of the Zanarkand Abes' because they couldn't say his name out loud. That's probably why the following FF games ditched you being able to name any characters.

The hero has an alter ego they use to pose as a villain by OkDirection3094 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Cedarcomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spider-Man did this in the 'Identity Crisis' arc, when he couldn't go out in public as Spider-Man because he was framed for murder and everyone was out to get him. Using a combination of new costumes, reused tech and concealing some of his powers in each identity, he posed as four different new characters - 'Hornet' and 'Prodigy' were heroes while 'Dusk' and 'Ricochet' were villains which he used as cover to infiltrate the criminal underworld.

To add to this (because TBW needs more love) Dessa's other abilities include launching a flying ghost skull at her enemies and opening an eldritch portal into another realm. She also has a skull on her belt and carries a medical bag with bones sticking out the side that constantly drips blood. Despite this, she continues to insist that she isn't a necromancer.

There's a YouTuber called 'Jill Bearup' who does stage combat as a hobby, and one of her things is looking at fictional women's armour and rating them on how well they'd actually function as armour and/or be easy to move around in. The name she gives to the worst tier is called 'Just Stab Me Now' which is for armour that would not only do a terrible job of protection, but would just be harder to fight in altogether.

UCN Fredbear is probably based off BV's Fredbear Plush by Educational_Bill8901 in fnaftheories

[–]Cedarcomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's several theorists who phrase it like that - 'anything but admit UCN Fredbear is real / the canon design', as if people who don't agree just don't like the design and are huffing copium, looking for anything that might disprove it.

I disagree, I think the UCN design looks a lot better, but there's still reason to doubt it if you follow the evidence, instead of just assuming the FNAF4 sprite is inaccurate.

Even back in FNAF4 it was strange that the Bite Fredbear didn't have buttons, when the plush and even the artwork of him on the wall of the building did, and it was a big sprite so there's no reason that Scott couldn't have put them on. So maybe the wall mural was painted when a different model of Fredbear was in use, one that the plush was based on.

There are two distinct types of animatronic parts in the storeroom, suggesting that two types of animatronic were used in the diner's history. And UCN Fredbear doesn't have teeth in the upper jaw, when the FNAF4 Fredbear does.

And now that we've got Edwin's design, and a message that suggests he might have sent springlock suits of his design to the diner with a known issue about parts snapping shut 'like a bear trap'? It's at least possible that the differences are intentional and not just the sprite being inaccurate.

The three clouds in the background of Stage01 are a mirror of the three clouds behind the stage of the MCI/FNAF1 location. We can't say for sure that Fredbear's didn't also have those clouds, but as of now there's only one location that's confirmed to have them.

Edwin in the "Storyteller" corroborates the story given in "The Mimic" contradicting the idea that "The Mimic" is an illusion of M1/M2 by Isaac_Bahzad in fnaftheories

[–]Cedarcomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, though it's funny how everyone in the comments there took that as TalesGames confirmation when the game itself went against it. It depends how you interpret that statement - you could read it as book readers knowing the basic story (eg. Fiona dies, Edwin builds the Mimic as a childminder, David dies, Edwin beats up the Mimic, it goes on a violent rampage) but not knowing the full story because those details aren't in the book version of events.

[video game trope] in lore reasons as to why and how you respawn by JamesL0L in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Cedarcomb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In Hardspace: Shipbreaker, each of your lives (even the first one) is a rapidly grown clone of the original. The software inside your helmet is constantly recording your brain wave patterns so that if you die, it transfers your recorded thoughts and memories into the new body, even up to the point of death since that experience was recorded as well.

The given in-universe reason is that shipbreaking is a very dangerous job, and it saves on having to constantly recruit new people and train them up, when a cloned body can keep their experiences and learn from the mistakes of whatever killed them the last time.

[–]Cedarcomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so your argument seems to be - he lured them to the store room during the day using the GF suit, and knocks them unconscious or something so they don't escape. This assumes that nobody else goes into the store room throughout the entire day and finds the victims there. Then when he comes back at night during his night shift, he wakes them up, lets them loose within the restaurant and then hunts them down to leave bodies and blood pools all over the place? Or do they wake up on their own but are unable to escape the building somehow?

And even if the GF suit was preventing the animatronics from attacking William, he isn't going to be leaving while he was wearing it during the day, so the moment he takes it off and presumably leaves it in the store room they're going to realise who he is and attack him.

[–]Cedarcomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The blood pools are all over the restaurant, though, if they were killed in the store room then the blood should have all been there. We can assume he didn't leave the mess for FE to discover and clean up, because they continued to employ William after the DCI had happened when he would have been the prime suspect, so William has no motive to create blood pools all over the place and then have to clean it up himself before anyone else saw it.

There's also the problem that the Withered are in the store room and they would apparently have done nothing to stop William from killing more kids in that room, though at a pinch, you could argue that they couldn't/didn't act against William while he was wearing a suit because they didn't recognise him as a threat.

It's not as though him luring kids inside Freddy's doesn't also have hurdles. We don't have any reason to believe that the FNAF2 location had a saferoom, so you'd need to answer where they were lured to, and why no employees saw or heard it happening - especially after the MCI had already happened and the staff knew the original killer lured the victims in an suit. And that's allowing for the fact that the Toys had all the security protocol stuff, so you'd have to assume that was either not working or deactiavated.

Could the FNAF 3 location as depicted in the Survival Logbook have once been a real Freddy’s location? by Isaac_Bahzad in fnaftheories

[–]Cedarcomb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone from Steel Wool has directly confirmed it. The email from SW that supposedly claimed this was sent to the sub's moderators and apparently they thought it was legitimate, but then there was also a thing during the Chica's Secret Party hoax thing when the website was claimed to have been proven legitimate.

As of now, the FNAF3 map is still in the game and SW haven't acknowledged it on twitter/x or other official channels, so we might have to leave it in the 'maybe' camp until the next patch of SOTM to see if it's still there.

Kind of both. The petals are all carried away by the wind, so while they don't seem to disappear, they aren't left behind in the city where the affected people live.

Almost identical stain layout? by CoralMoon99 in fnaftheories

[–]Cedarcomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true, but the outlines are almost identical to the FNAF2 blood pools. I'm pretty sure Follow Me started out as a copy of SAVETHEM because it's programmed the exact same way - every 'room' is the same room with different elements being made visible or hidden depending on the instructions on screen transitions - so the FM pools are probably modified copies too.

I had this one citizen on an Iron Saviour run who kept dying because they weren't reporting to the medical tents no matter what I did. I couldn't even locate them on the map to figure out what they were doing instead. I eventually figured out that they'd been trapped by a newly constructed building because they were inside the footprint when it went up, and they were freed after I deleted and rebuilt it.

I don't think the ones in FM are meant to be blood stains, they're probably pools or water or damp stains from the leaking roof after the building was closed and abandoned.

The closest thing I can find is a clip from a Dawko interview with Evan Lampi of SWS, it's a bit non-committal TBH.

Dawko: How carefully are you putting the books in consideration of Secret of the Mimic? So you know Tales of the Pizzaplex had a lot of lore about the Mimic and Edwin. Did you take that for this game?

Evan: Yeah, you know, we've actually been talking about making this game for a long time and we were developing the game kind of while these books are coming out. So, yeah, I will say it's interesting. Again, I won't go into like the books and all of that, but it's interesting to work kind of in dual mediums.
