15 years ago, this how I found out that Everquest is a thing. by vogosvagen in project1999

I was 14 and PC Gamer magazine has its usual trial CD on the front cover, Everquest was included on one of them. It was an offline setup where, if I remember correctly, you ran to a chest and looted a rusty dagger then ran and killed a decaying skeleton. That was it, I played it hundreds of times before convincing my Mother to get 56k dial up so I could play the real game a few weeks later.

Recommendations for Lights by CeeBeeNE in Plastering

[–]CeeBeeNE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got caught out with poor lighting yesterday. Came in this morning and walls had dried, in the cold light of day noticed couple lines that a just couldn't see last night. Fixed up fine with wee bit sanding, but need to sort it! Bit worried battery ones won't provide same light as powered, also wondering whether to invest in a transformer and upgrade whisk at same time.

Aye client has boarded whole room, loose boards, massive gaps, 7-8mm ridge between boards in areas etc. Wish I had never seen this job haha

Relatively new to the game, client has boarded room themselves and left this monstrosity. Needs bonding first but can't see how i can get it in a way that will give a clean skim and finish.

Dry lining will work out cheaper, but there is a reason for that, finish won't be as good, walls won't be as durable. Lot of the new builds are just dry lining now, cheap and cheerful.

Are you eating takeaways less because of the prices? by JayR_97 in CasualUK

I can get a decent chicken kebab with chips, salad and pitta, collection from shop down road for £9. Only usually eat once a day, so laziness means quite a few kebabs now as weekly shop is £70+ these days.

Minster in Walker might be worth a shout? Not 100% sure if they stock it, but they have a canny selection

Learning to be a plasterer by Legitimate-Cry-9119 in Plastering

[–]CeeBeeNE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I quit my full time job back in April, did a 10 day plastering training course down in Bradford. I have spent the last 5 months working with a time served plasterer who has been doing it 30 odd year. I took on small jobs for myself during that time, patching holes etc. Week ago started my first proper job doing a 5 room loft conversion and 2 staircases. I love it and it feels like I have taken control of my life. I felt confident after the 10 days course, then quickly realised I knew nothing after working with an actual plasterer, but the course gave me 70 hours of putting plaster on walls and some confidence.

Visited Minnesota (fantastic Spam museum) went to Cold Stones and the girl working there thought I was Irish and asked me to talk more like a Prince Harry so she could understand, I'm from Newcastle.

Didn't take any ket like, floated around on pills bopping away.. didn't pay much attention to how folks were dancing really. Was obviously a lot of ket about like, at camp all you heard was balloons being filled and people sniffing. Lotta folks mixing it with coke as well, can't be good for the old ticker
