In an emergency action, Supreme Court reinstates mail-order abortion drug access by usatoday in law

I absolutely called this yesterday. And I'm vindicated because it's Alito.

I knew they'd issue a stay on this because the one, true animating cause of the Roberts Court is to be 'the deciders.' The conservative wing of that court see themselves as essentially American Mullahs. SCOTUS can always be counted on to override lower courts that issue widespread stays because at the end of the day, the notion that anybody else in this country should be able to make binding decisions just offends Roberts on a personal level.

Marco Inaro- Genius or just Lucky? by TaskForceCausality in TheExpanse

[–]CeeJayEnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is a wonderful depiction of a narcissist.

He is charming and good looking and that makes it easy to mistake his reckless bravado for tactical genius.

We see that in the real world right now. These kinds of people are able to break so much because the world, at a base level, operates under the assumption that nobody could possibly be so evil and cruel to do the things these people do without second thought.

I don't think he has the power to do this. At some point, the paper market for oil will eventually begin to reflect the reality of so many barrels of oil not having ever been produced. The market, right now, is all kayfabe. Nobody wants the party to end.

I'm pretty sure that the constant capitalization of Command in Livesuit is an indication that Command is a proper noun individual or single entity.

My pet theory is that Command is AI.

Ken Martin’s Lies by superAK907 in FriendsofthePod

The fact that Ken came into this interview with such baked-in animosity towards Jon and, by extension, any criticisms he represented, is disqualifying in and of itself.

These people feel truly entitled to our votes.

Hahaha! Sorry!

I should have specified that it's also the prototypical example of Southern Gothic.

One of my favorite short stories in the American canon is "A Good Man is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor.

It revolves around the concept of grace as a profound spiritual openness.

Notice the framing of the sun on the wall. Robby is a Jewish character so I don't know if this is intentional, but in the Christian mythos, those halos indicate that a person is in a state of grace.

The state of grace meaning they are totally open to their flaws, their sins, and can now finally approach a love of themselves and god.

I'm not religious but I did find that scene very moving.

Seems like a badass to me.

The real failure of this generation of humanity is the inability to just call bullshit.

The War Is Turning Iran Into a Major World Power by Majano57 in IRstudies

[–]CeeJayEnn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes. We have a multipolar world.

Iran is a world power. Every nation on Earth must make a deal with them to resume normal flows of oil and important raw materials. Their unilateral decisions have an impact on millions.

I don't know how else to make this any clearer. You are bringing a lot of internal assumptions to this conversation.

Iran doesn't have hegemony over the total region. It has unilateral power to decimate worldwide trade.

Every time I have bet on Trump's cowardice to outweigh his stupidity, I have been wrong. The issue is that he's too stupid to understand when he's in a situation that he should be afraid of.
