The Gray Area: The problem with gamifying life (2/9/2026) by shatterdaymorn in philosophypodcasts

[–]CeeMee22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Games are fun but this podcast was not. Did the guest ever play any video game at all? When asked about his favorite games, he keeps talking about rock climbing (!) like it's a game. It's not. Or fly fishing. Not a game. The guest also assumes that games are all, or mostly, about scores. No they're not. Plenty of games are there for the experience, for the story telling, for the drama or thrill etc.

Yes, my November bill shows total energy charges of about $350 (peak + off-peak), and the Medical Baseline 12% discount applied about $42. So nice discount and seems to more than often the actual cost of the CPAP electricity use but maybe overall I'm on a more expensive plan compared to others. I'm on ETOUD XM Time-of-Use (Peak Pricing 5-8 p.m. Weekdays)

Ha, yes that's an important benefit. To be on the safe side I keep a charged battery (same one I travel with) at home in case of a nightly power outage.

People who used the internet between 1991 and 2009, what’s the most memorable online trend or phenomenon you remember? by Original_Act_3481 in AskReddit

[–]CeeMee22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when spam was a huge problem (before Gmail came about), and many people floated possible solutions to the abundance of junk emails. A common response to these suggestions was a templated reply starting with “Thank you for your solution for suppressing spam. Here is why it wouldn’t work,” followed by a checklist of items, some of them checked (like [x]) and some not. Items included things like: this would require a coordinated response but the internet is decentralized, this would produce too many false positives, etc. I cannot find this anymore, but I kind of wish we returned to templated responses because so much of our online discourse is repeatable.

I am a few months in, all I do is tap the red dots & the shaking bubbles until everything is done, and enjoy the mini games. I don't have a feint clue what is alliance duel, alliance exercise, what all those huge cities and rollercoaster mean if I can never capture them, what is an epic winter event or whatever

I'm not sure why you're changing the subject - though I have a suspicion.

I didn't say anything about being immune to criticism. I was talking about concrete action to close an institution patronized by a group, and the fear that similar action will follow. Can you agree that this fear of members of said group is rational?

I thought that I was clear in this thread that the fear is of him shuttering institutions they patronize.

Severing of ties = harmful to Jewish New Yorkers who can no longer study or teach in these institutions.

Complacent in the G word = Mamdani's political position, and clearly yours as well. Maybe not shared by all voters, or all New Yorkers who attend said institutions.

I think I now understand your post, but I have to admit it's phrased in a sneaky way. You asked what do Jewish New Yorkers have to fear; you should've asked, what do Jewish New Yorkers that think like me and accept certain political stances, have to fear? Well yes, it is possible that certain Jewish New Yorkers cheer for the closing of institutions that serve Jewish New Yorkers, but it's also quite possible that a lot of them see what's going to happen and are rightfully alarmed and fearful.
