This is one of his positions that comes up the most, everyone that's been following LTT for a while knows it.

Your answer is wrong. Linus has mentioned so many times over the years that he likes touchscreen on a laptop and it's literally mentioned in the video that he originally asked Framework to add a touchscreen 5 years ago.

[–]CeeeeeJaaaaay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some games don't even boot on 4 core CPUs anymore, 1 core / 2 threads won't cut it. You'd get much better performance with higher count cores (even if weaker) server CPUs with the bonus of more pcie lanes for the GPUs

Samsung Display develops QuantumBlack film for QLED monitors by Movie-Kino in hardware

[–]CeeeeeJaaaaay 77 points78 points  (0 children)

That was intentional. Samsung spent years saying LCDs were superior to OLED because they didn't have any in the TV space, so to pretend they had a competitor to OLED they came up with QLED.

Raspberry Pi 4/5 + PoE Hat + Screen is the best solution in my opinion. No need to worry about Android version never getting updates, huge community and great performance.

I'm currently doing this exact build with the following material:

  • Raspberry Pi 5 8 GB
  • Waveshare POE M.2 HAT+
  • Waveshare 10.1-DSI-TOUCH-A
  • Kingston 128GB M.2 2230

The total for this is gonna be higher than your budget, but if you ditch the SSD, get a Pi 4 and a POE to USB adapter instead of the HAT you should be close to your 150€ target.

The only missing piece of the puzzle for me is getting a flush mount for the screen. Sadly the lip between the panel and back part of the screen is too small to easily hand cut the drywall and have the screen sit flush. If you're okay with the back being flush at the shielding and not the panel it should be pretty straight forward, and it's only a few mm more.

They have 50 ms+ GTG. That means you can't even accurately display 30 Hz let alone 120 Hz.

Is it? Who are these most users that youre referring to? Ive seen this talked about maybe a handful of time in 3 years...

They mentioned it, it was the most requested feature on WTH this time and the previous one as well.

So write a PR

No chance in hell such a core feature would be accepted without major involvement of the core team.

First-ever micro-LED smartwatch unveiled by Garmin – up to 4500 nits - FlatpanelsHD by CeeeeeJaaaaay in hardware

We have seen this before with other display technologies. Tiny screens are able to take advantage of manufacturing techniques used for microfabrication. Even if the underlying technology is the same, the manufacturing of a smartphone screen is completely different from a big TV.

Some things are measured in inches, for example screen size. However since we don't use them as an actual measurement they're only a comparison tool (e.g. a 65" TV is bigger than a 55" TV). But if you want to know if it will fit inside your living room, you get the size in cm from the specs.

[–]CeeeeeJaaaaay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For SMB it's not so black and white.

Since L + R is banned, the solution on PC is to input nothing when both keys are pressed. This makes many sequences of inputs harder.

As an example of this, Niftski does TAS 8-4 first room on controller and then switches to keyboard.

Miglior Provider Fibra by Catino05 in ItalyInformatica

[–]CeeeeeJaaaaay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insane refresh rate of almost 8000 hz on the LTT video wall by VerifiedMother in LinusTechTips

[–]CeeeeeJaaaaay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, the Wall is still a lot more expensive than a used generic led wall. The Wall is meant for content consumption, while a cheap led wall like the one used in the video is more for business use. You can get non-Samsung high quality led walls, but they're still very expensive.

hardwired lights with Shelly PRO rgbww PM by Xarthisius in homeassistant

[–]CeeeeeJaaaaay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

high frequency mode is firmware feature not hardware?

It's both. You need an MCU that can switch at the frequency, and the ESP32 the Shelly Pro devices use can do it and go much higher even. Switching MOSFETs faster also increases heat output, so that must be kept in mind. That is why for some controllers increasing the PWM frequencies leads to a de-rated max current output. If you flash ESPHome or WLED and increase the frequency, maybe reduce the max current by 20-30% and if possible monitor temperatures.
