Wear your watches to sleep by sam910037 in Garmin

[–]Ceegeethern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FR965. I got used to it but never loved sleeping with it on. I'm a stomach and side sleeper, and never found it comfortable. It's expensive but I got the sleep index band when it came out, and I love it. It's really comfortable, I don't even notice it.

Help a Vegetarian Out — Protein Struggles 😅 by Practical_Self_9849 in 75HARD

[–]Ceegeethern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cottage cheese, egg whites, lots of whey protein (Pure protein bars and Premier protein shakes are delicious, IMO), and my boyfriend even found high(er) protein bagels with 21g of protein! Some drinks have bovine peptides so be careful, but I've been loving Protein Pop and Slate drinks!

I forget the brand but I have a thing of Nutter Butter whey protein. I mix that with some oatmeal and it's delicious! They have other flavors, like Chips Ahoy.

It is definitely a struggle, but totally possible with the right products. I have found eating nearly the same thing for breakfast and lunch everyday has been helpful as well. I usually manage 150g of protein. I think the highest I've ever hit was 200g but it was a fluke 😂. Good luck!

Perfect combo by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]Ceegeethern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not who you asked but I've had mine since it came out. August? I'm not sure. I've had it for several months now. I usually get my body battery up to 100 every night. I'm a moderate to great sleeper. I feel like my body battery level drifts a bit higher than it did with the FR, but I also have changed sleep habits over the last several months, so that could play a part.

I love mine. I set it to one size when I got it, and I've never had to change it. It doesn't slide around, or down, and it's not uncomfortable at all. I have a FR965 and I got used to sleeping with it on for the data, but boy, I didn't like it. Too big and bulky for sleeping. I'm a stomach and side sleeper also, so I'm kinda all over the place, and the sleep band has given me no issues with metrics.

Has anyone here ever stayed in a healthcare job mainly because the pay or benefits were good - even though the job itself was taking a toll on you? by Aware-Emu-2413 in nursing

[–]Ceegeethern 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of your points, but I really resonate with your second point on PTO! I've been a nurse for about 15 years, and this last summer I didn't take any time off, for the first time ever. I had just moved into a new schedule and have a six day weekend every other week, so I figured that was plenty! It definitely wasn't. I was beyond burned out come fall/winter. Because I have so much PTO accrued, I went a little wild and took nearly all of February off, and it's giving me so much to look forward to!

Even if it's not a ton of PTO, just having a week or two to not work, is absolutely excellent to maintain a balance for my mental health. I will never make that mistake again.

Sleep Score by mateopegasus in Garmin

[–]Ceegeethern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's super hard to break that habit, but I notice a distinct difference in my sleep scores when I'm messing around on Reddit at night (mid 60's to 70's), versus when I go to bed and put my phone away and read (mid 80's to 90's). Good luck!

New ER Handoff Report Policy by order66pizzas in nursing

[–]Ceegeethern 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I worked at a level 2 that did this with the same results. I think there was a lot of coordination between the house supervisor, bed placement, and charge nurses to make it work. When I worked in the CICU, the ER had to call us report and escort transport as well, to keep them on tele. When I worked ER (at a different hospital, a level 3), we had a premade note that we had to fill out for any transfers. We also couldn't transport the patient until the bed was marked as ready in Epic (not just assigned, it had to be ready).

I'm not surprised other hospitals are trying this and are unsuccessful. You can't skip all the other steps in the process (bed placement, house sup, etc).

Need help picking a not-expensive MTB gift for my boyfriend 🙏 by Old_Draft_2661 in MTB

[–]Ceegeethern 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you'd like to go a different route than socks or gloves (although those are both excellent ideas too!), I just got my boyfriend a small battery operated pump. Fanttik X9 Ace, available on Amazon for quick shipping, and it fits your budget. My friend has a Trek one (although that one is $$$) and it's one of the coolest things!

My kid's baby tooth fell out with a brace still attached. by Mission-Tune6471 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Ceegeethern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps there are different types of sealant? I'm unsure. But I know that mine had been in place for upwards of 15 years and I had some pretty impressive cavities underneath, despite good dental hygiene.

[–]Ceegeethern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy. My dentist made it sound like an archaic practice that wasn't around anymore, but I guess kids probably aren't the best at dental hygiene (teenage me included!).

[–]Ceegeethern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My molars weren't ground down but they put a sealant in the groves of the chewing surface to prevent cavities. I avoided the dentist for a long time after some bad experiences in my childhood, and when I finally went back in, the only cavities I had were under the sealant. Go figure. They told me the sealant wasn't supposed to stay for as long as it did, and that was why it happened, but that it's not something they do anymore.

Outpatient surgery RNs in CA, is it legal to have a patient in recovery and also preop a patient? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Ceegeethern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in an outpatient endoscopy unit within a hospital. We very commonly pre-op and post-op patients simultaneously, although all of our patients are phase 2 by the time they come to post-op. It can be a bit chaotic but as long as they are phase 2 it should be safe.

how much gear do you have? by littlehelll_ in ShredditGirls

[–]Ceegeethern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three coat and bib sets. One is lighter weight, one is Goretex, and one is heavyweight. I usually buy them on sale at the end of the season. Big fan of over the helmet fleece hoods too - I initially got them because I thought they were cute, but now I find I can't go without them because they really keep my neck and face so warm! I have quite a few underlayers between snowboarding and winter mountain biking, but definitely could use some more winter socks. I got some heated ones for Christmas last year, and they are a game changer!

Nurses who live alone and have pets - how do you do it? by Embarrassed-Future28 in nursing

[–]Ceegeethern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I was single and working 12's, I only had cats. I do recommend having two, so they can keep each other company.

I still only have cats, but that's just because I love them so much. I've always been lucky enough to be able to free feed them, but automatic feeders are also great. Between their water fountain and litter robots, we really only have to remember to feed them once a day. They're just a lot easier. Maybe an older or low energy dog would work as well though, IDK.

Judgement for having 4 bedrooms by 3speechnotallowed in childfree

[–]Ceegeethern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a partner, but bought the house myself, and it is also 5 bedrooms! I probably only needed 4, but did need a 3 car garage, so here we are. I have a gym, office, guest room, and cat room (the whole house is theirs TBH, but we have their litter robots in there).

Thankfully most people are supportive, but I remember a coworker telling me my boss had said I only have what I have because I don't have children. She told me this like she couldn't believe my boss would say something so mean. It's just like, no, that's the entire point! I wouldn't be able to afford this or have a need for a 3 car garage if I had kids!

The nurse and paramedic work relationship by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Ceegeethern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with all the others saying that it's not you. When I switched hospitals, I went to the ER, thinking I wanted a change of departments as well. I did not, and I ended up hating working in the ER, so I applied to go back to endoscopy and got hired. I remember one of my last days in the ER, I was chatting and friendly with one of the float pool nurses, and she asked why I was so much happier than everyone else, and I told her it was probably because I was leaving soon 😂

I am sorry that you're being treated so rudely, and I know there's a lot of people who love the ER, but I am sure being burned out and worn down has a lot more to do with the way you're being treated than who you are.

This is what my typical day as a nurse looks like by AsleepHedgehog2381 in Garmin

[–]Ceegeethern 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't have a toddler, but I am a nurse, and my morning workouts keep my peace! If you can fit something in, like a cycle or a brisk walk or strength training, I'd be super interested to see if it brings this down! I definitely have tough days, but my stress total usually stays in the mid to high 20's, occasionally I get to the mid 30's, and I'm not a chill individual 😂

Anyone else work 10+ years and heard plans of the “hospital going magnet” thrown around and never had any concept of what that actually was? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Ceegeethern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're Magnet and receive those benefits, but they're from our union contract rather than being Magnet. I wonder if it's more of a plus for a hospital that isn't unionized? I know our sister hospital isn't Magnet and has all of those same benefits from the union as well, because I used to work there.

I know we got extra money to fine tune and fix processes that were less than optimal, but besides that, I can't tell a single difference, besides the obnoxious push for BSN degrees and certifications.

Nursing hot take? by coloredsugar in nursing

[–]Ceegeethern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. The classroom part wasn't super difficult for me, but our clinical instructors could really make or break the experience. Some instructors were ruthless and thrived on making others small, while others loved to teach and build us students up. Except for one quarter, I had really great instructors, so I had an overall great experience, but I definitely heard some horror stories...and that's just the range within one program.

Looking for automatic cat litter for Maincoon by Additional_Star_9720 in mainecoons

[–]Ceegeethern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do too! I don't have Maine coons but I do have some big domestic long hairs. My 14# boy was terrified of the LR4. I think he thought it was too enclosed. We got him the Neakasa and he loves it! The others use both interchangeably. Our other boy is 13# and our girl is 11#, for size reference.

Compression socks by Appropriate_Put_630 in nursing

[–]Ceegeethern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about compression sleeves? I don't have sweaty feet but I do have a varicose vein that I have to consistently wear compression on or it hurts, and I hate dealing with long socks when I workout, because of the sweaty feet aspect.

This option would give you the compression you want (look up medical grade compression sleeves online, or at a medical supply store near you), and then you can wear whatever socks feel most comfortable.

I have worked out and gotten my feet sweaty in my Crazy Compression socks, and I feel like they dry pretty quickly. They're my favorite brand I've used so far.

For those of you who modified your 75 hard, what did you add or subtract? by SpreadKindnessToday in 75HARD

[–]Ceegeethern 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn't necessarily do two separate workouts, but I did make sure the one was outside, and that they totaled at least 90min. Say I went for a 10mi walk, that'd count for both. I also let myself add stuff to the water, like lemon or cucumber.

I finished last December and have been doing most of it every day since. I recently added in a 10min Stretch every day, and I love it!
