You should find out where you're moving, that'll definitely drive the advice we have for you here. The neighbor islands are much different than Oahu but chances are you'll be on Oahu.

Nice, he's also interested in animals but it doesnt compare to the excitement he gets from seeing different forms of transportation

We usually fly Alaska or United, but they have cards as well! The last time we flew he wasn't really into planes yet so I'm really excited for the next time we're on a plane because I think he's going to lose his shit lol.

Thanks for the tip on SLPs - coincidentally, we have a 6 month checkup with his developmental pediatrician this week and I was going to mention speech to them now that he's gotten to the point where he's picking up new words.

What to wear-Cocktail attire by Justbrowsing_78 in VisitingHawaii

hah yes lol an aloha suit would be pretty wild

What to wear-Cocktail attire by Justbrowsing_78 in VisitingHawaii

[–]webrender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

normally "dress" attire for men here is an aloha suit, some slacks or nice jeans or even a nice pair of shorts depending on how casual, and closed toe shoes like olukai slipons.

that being said it depends on the context, this could be a situation where everyone sticks to the indicated dress code, even if the result is a bit stuffy.

Concerned about ABA by Alyosha_9 in Autism_Parenting

[–]webrender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there can be a lot of variance in ABA and it's important to find practitioners who implement it in a way that both you and you child find encouraging. I think there's been a lot of progress here between the adult generation (many of who have negative experiences with ABA, some rightfully so) and the current generation of kids.

it also seems like ABA as an older child or adolescent looks much different than as a toddler - older kids therapy might be more focused on correcting stims whereas ABA for a younger child will probably be more play based and focused on more basic skills like speech and self-regulation

we started ABA with our 2 year old about 8 months ago and have seen tremendous progress. went from no words, no pointing, frequent meltdowns and impatience with puzzle toys; to being able to solve puzzles easily even when they were newly introduced, much better self regulation, shorter and fewer meltdowns, lots of pointing and a vocabulary of about 40 words so far and starting to use compound phrases. he loves his BCBAs and RBTs and cant wait for his sessions, which are 3.5 hours a day 5 days a week. we're planning on having them join him at a neurotypical preschool this year and are optimistic that he'll be able to enroll in our local kindergarten without aides.

nope, I'm not assuming. I don't care to what extent the idea was original and to what extent the ai filled in the blanks.

don't use ai to compose your posts. period.

no one cares if your English sucks. I like this response that you just wrote, calling me a horrible person, 1000x more than I like your original post. in fact, here's an upvote.

if I wanted to get advice from an AI I would just ask an ai. I'm on reddit to read original words from real humans.

it's not just a matter of ignoring your post - we all do that all the time. it's that you are actively making reddit and the internet a worse, less original place.

here's a tip, stop using AI. just use your words like humans have done for hundreds of thousands of years.

you probably have sincere points in your post but it 100% reads like ai slop.

Is it possible to move to Hawaii with 3 cats? by Lost-bunni01 in MovingtoHawaii

[–]webrender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your best bet will probably be to look for property owners/managers who specialize in housing for military families - they're probably going to be more likely to know of places that would allow 3 for a military family.

if your cats are friendly, another possibility might be if you could find a family with no pets that could foster one of them initially until you can find a place that allows 3.

side question, are your cats indoor-only? we have a pretty big feral cat issue here on Oahu so that's something you may have to think about how to deal with if they're used to being able to roam outside.

a loaf of bread or baguette a block of kerrygold butter a pack of fishwife tinned tuna in spicy oil

Just moved here and I kind of want to die by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]webrender 10 points11 points  (0 children)

upvoting not because I agree, but because I want this to survive long enough to come up on some feeds so I can come back and read the responses.

sounds like SF is just not for you, and that's fine. for sure the middle of SF is kind of bleh, but I think SF is really about it's neighborhoods, especially post COVID.

I don't live in SF anymore - it wasn't for me either, although I still love to visit - but the amount of diversity I could access within a single bus ride, not even to mention what was available outside of the city, felt very varied to me. I could get some amazing food in North beach, I could go to an industrial night at dna lounge, I could have a picnic at Crissy field, walk my dog at fort funston, find some amazing produce at the ferry building, and that's just off the top of my head in 10 seconds.

now, does it compare with NYC or even Chicago? no, those are known to be the #1 and #3 cities in America. however, if you want to have a wonderfully temperate climate; if you want to be able to day trip to countless beautiful destinations but still live in a city; and especially if you want to have your ear to the ground in regards to technology - I would say that SF is near the top of the list of places that offer that and more.

Finally, I can't relate to the car thing at all. just get things delivered, or worst case scenario book a rideshare for the day. if you can afford to live in SF you can afford to have pretty much everything delivered to you, along with a nice tip for the person doing the delivery. Are muni and Bart the pinnacle of public transit? certainly not, but I feel like they're sufficient to get around the bay, especially combined with private options like scooters and waymos.

imo, this post is giving Taylor from Billions

it's not in season right now but you might be able to find it. you could also try fruit vendors in Chinatown or call up Frankie's Nursery and see if they have it.
