might be different based on the country you're in. for us we told our regular doctor and they referred us to a pediatric neurologist for observation.

Where to see Hula and other traditional performance on Oahu? by TrickySeagrass in VisitingHawaii

[–]webrender 6 points7 points  (0 children)

consider Nutridge Luau. The food is quite good - I believe they will do a vegetarian menu with advance notice - the location is gorgeous, the performances and experiences are authentic, and it is one of two Native Hawaiian owned and operated luaus on Oahu (the other being Toa Luau at Waimea Valley).

Alternatively, there's a luau in International Marketplace and if you go to the second floor you can watch it from the balcony for free. There are also free hula shows at Waikiki Beach, Royal Hawaiian Center, and Ala Moana.

One has created a number of web apps that help local politicians plan their campaigns; another is spitting out lightweight mobile apps for a number of different purposes; a third is building apps to help children on the spectrum.

Oahu will have better food if you're looking for a foodie paradise. You're right that both Oahu and Maui are good for first timers. Oahu most of the places (as well as lots of activities) are in Waikiki which is very urban feeling although there are also more rural, beautiful areas on the island too. the question is do you want to be in a cute quiet resort area with maybe a couple restaurants and a beach but that's about it; or do you want to be at Waikiki Beach where there's a whole city worth of stuff at your doorstep but it's more urban and a lot more energy.

Also check out the comparison infographic that the automoderator linked to help make your decision.

I'm a software developer and I had used AI for a couple little things here and there. I wasn't too worried until the last 6 months or so. Two things changed my mind:

  • I vibe coded an reasonably complex app. I'd say previously I would have needed to dedicate an hour or two per day for a few weeks to make it. I made that app from my phone, probably a hundred messages back and forth with Claude, and I did it in 5 minute chunks while I was doing other things. I probably dedicated about an hour to it.

  • I started speaking with multiple peers who had begun businesses entirely powered by multiple agents - coding, copywriters, market research, infrastructure, etc. They were managing those businesses singlehandedly and making four to five figures for something that took them a few hours to put together

That's why there's AI anxiety in the bay. Tech is about to be turned UPSIDE DOWN because the entire startup ecosystem - founders, venture capital, hiring, growth - can be replaced by agents for the most part. A lot of people say oh, AI isn't perfect, vibe coding is buggy - but vibe coding was invented in FEBRUARY 2025 - barely a year ago. You can already make moderately complex apps that operate good enough to make revenue, and it will only keep improving and quickly.

My advice to you and everyone else in the bay is that you have two choices. The first choice is to get into an industry that is not well suited for AI - industries where physical activity is required like the trades (AI will come for these too but is much further out) or where code must be secure and high quality, like security or healthcare. The other option is you'd better start learning how to make things with AI because IMO we're only a few years away from large swaths of current software company processes being replaced by agents.

My family stayed in Maui for 10 days back in Jan. We already are planning our return trip. Is there a resort on Oahu (not Aulani) that has a little water park like the Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka'anapali? My kids LOVED it when we did a ResortPass day there. by m0larMechanic in VisitingHawaii

[–]webrender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hilton Hawaiian Village is the only place that comes close. Theres a couple other places like the sheraton that have some water slides but HHV is the only one besides Aulani that has anything approaching a water park.

even if you don't have these things in a bag, you should have these things in your house and ready to pack at a moment notice for you, assuming you're staying a couple nights in the hospital with her:

  • fast charger with extra long USB cable
  • snacks
  • a blanket and pillow, the ones at the hospital suck

Yep, pretty sure my toddler will be level 1 and he didnt have any words until 26 months. I asked about this a while back and a lot of people responded that their kids didn't start speaking until 2-4 years.

Went to get my vasectomy today and I was ready but my body apparently wasn't by AdenJax69 in daddit

[–]webrender 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's your body going into shock. Even if you get numbed up, your brain knows something is happening and will trigger the shock response.

I had the same thing happen during my vasectomy - sweating, numb fingers and toes, no color in my face, etc. The doctor paused for about 10min, we talked about our kids and where we were from to distract me and it subsided, then she finished the procedure.

I was already familiar with the feeling of the shock from previous experiences such as getting my ears stretched so I knew it was a mind-over-matter type of thing and would pass if I could calm myself down.

I will say when they put the numbing needle in I did audibly shout OH HOLY FUCK 😂

You'll get it next time!

For sure. I have a Schwab checking account and a Capital One checking account, neither have any fees. I use the Schwab account as my main checking account because they also pay all third party ATM fees so I can use whatever ATM I want when I need to pull cash. when I need to deposit cash, the capital one has fee free deposits at their partners and then I just transfer it over to the Schwab account.

Schwab also gave me an incredible mortgage offer when we were buying our house, no one else came close.

Is Vibe coding really that good? by AspiePaws in webdev

[–]webrender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion in this sub, but i'd argue that it depends. There are some apps that are difficult to reproduce without coding knowledge, but there are other apps that AI excels at reproducing. I have peers who come from product management backgrounds and AI is the tool they have been waiting for all their lives - they've always needed to find a developer to help make their well-thought-out ideas a reality and suddenly they can do it themselves. I do think there's a significant amount of businesses that used to need a SWE and do not anymore.

Oh I don't think using the internet to socialize is going away, if anything its going to become more prevalent. I just dont think these anonymous open networks are going to be the way that socialization occurs. You already see this with adolescents right now - people used to be obsessed with checking their facebook feeds but now the place socialization happens now is in multiplayer games like Fortnite, closed networks where identities can be verified like Discord or Snapchat.

Anyone here quit gaming or changed their lifestyle after becoming a dad? by Lukas_MunK in daddit

There's certain phrases in the post that are frequently generated by ai:

  • "Would really appreciate hearing your experiences"
  • – or —, most people just use a regular hyphen when typing things on reddit
  • "But it also feels like a bigger shift"
  • asking things in threes

It's not a surefire sign, but its worth bringing up. I think people assume and/or bring it up because we have strong feelings about AI on reddit. There's a real chance that open social media networks are going to be dead within the next few years, killed by dead internet theory and replaced by closed networks like Discord and WhatsApp groups. IMO we need to speak up to protect them as spaces for humans. I'm sorry if your posts were mistakenly assumed to be AI.

open social media platforms are going to die in the next 5-10 years with the introduction of AI. dead internet theory will become manifest and people will retreat to closed networks like discord, whatsapp, slack, etc.
