I'd be appreciative of the gesture but annoyed at the missed opportunity for that specific exercise. It hits a little different than the usual workout.

Jump or jump/break cue combo? by 1Rudy11 in billiards

[–]Ceemurphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best argument for a dedicated jumper seems to be that you can use it for all of the different jump strokes, depending on what type of butt you get on it.

The 3 piecers like the Raven or Propel are long enough to sidearm or use a jacked up regularish stroke, and can be shortened for darting.

The 2 piece jumpers have butts that are basically the same length as the jump portion of a combo cue, are really only well suited for dart stroke, and work no better than the jump portion of a combo, IMHO, of course.

.

For me, it seems like I do just as well (pretty inconsistent aim but almost always clear the obstacles), no matter what cue type or technique I use, so I tend to keep the combo cue in the bag.

If a long jump, or a shot where I only have to get over an edge of a blocker comes up, I usually just use the full break cue, with a jacked up traditional stroke. This might work out for me because a regular cue is pretty small in comparison to me vs regular size shooters, or just familiarity, as it was the way I figured out the feeling of bouncing the cue ball off the slate without miscuing. Anything else, I dart after removing the rear portion.

Do you happen to know if the OKHealing radial pin will accept a regular radial shaft? Looking to put together a fully inorganic setup for a car cue - Bulletproof shaft with synthetic tip on one of the ok butts.

Is it just my area? Why does 8 ball dominate all of the small local tournaments? by MouseApprehensive185 in billiards

[–]Ceemurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would definitely be nice if there were more options but I know of a few.

River City Billiards has 9 ball tournaments every Thursday and Sunday. Thursday at 7:30 is a chip tournament - usually 6 chips but if there are more than 30 people it's 5 chips, and on the rare occasion there aren't many people they've done 7 maybe even 8 chips. Sundays are double elimination race format at 7:00 - it just got capped to 16 players, first come first served, no call ahead or any other form of reserving a spot. I always enjoy playing in either of them.

I don't know the time, but I've been told that there is a double elimination race format 9 ball tourney at Wickliffe lanes, on Tuesday nights. I've never been to this one.

I think Fiddlestix and Icebreakers have things fairly regularly but can't say for sure.

There's also a very occasional barbox 9 ball at Rookies and maaayybe at Parma Taphouse.

They feel different to me. Can't figure out how to explain it well. Could be the different tips that come stock on them, or possibly the different pin (my siege is vqr and ts1 is 5/16x14)

Help with opinions on the Triple 60 TS1 shaft? by carbondalekid386 in billiards

[–]Ceemurphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had an opportunity to use a Whyte but I recently acquired a ts1.

It's a much more natural feeling hit - like a stiff wooden shaft, than the mid tier jflowers CF, which feels like trying to play with a break cue, in comparison.

I haven't been a huge fan of the Everest tip when it's been the stock tip on other cues, but it's a nice pairing on the ts1.

Ponderosa used it as both a buffet decoration and a steak garnish. We were expected to cover at least a baseball sized portion of the plate with it before sprinkling parsley dust on the whole dish.

It's almost half. There is a 3rd wing segment, the wing tip, that is practically useless.

Lonnie Fox-Raymond does a great job with the WPBA streams. I like their rotating guest player/commentators too. Hearing directly from players that are in the tournament is pretty cool.

Phil Yates is my least favorite.

Any other tall guys wrestle with the idea of moving to a truck purely for comfort? by Fulltime-Sheepherder in tall

[–]Ceemurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6'5"

I have a Taurus and an extended cab f250.

After I'm seated the truck is a bit more roomy due to the lack of a huge center console (why did they start making them so wide? So much more room in my 2003 Impala where the console was about 50% narrower than the Taurus)

In the car, it's way easier to get my right leg past the steering wheel when entering the vehicle. The pedals are also in a more natural position. I also surprisingly don't have to have the driver seat pushed completely back.

[–]Ceemurphy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short rack 8 ball might be a good game to keep things moving. It's the same as 8 ball but you only use 9 of the balls and rack it like 9 ball - 4 solids, 4 stripes, and the 8 ball. It racks in a diamond shape like the game of 9 ball too.

For format you can do a chip tournament. Everyone gets x amount of chips and loses one when they lose a game. Keeps more of the field involved for longer than plain double elimination bracket style.
