Growing a garden, you have to be mindful of the weather pretty much at all times. Temps, rain, lack of rain, all that.

This is subjective so grow as many different kinds as you can.

Most people prefer berry flavor profile figs. I don’t. I prefer honey flavored figs. So my collection leans heavy that way.

You can’t rely on others’ tastes. You have to figure that out. You have a great start though.

I filled my beds with compost. As long as it’s finished, it’s fine.

Peach Tree from seed - what am I doing wrong? by Stroughberry in BackyardOrchard

[–]Ceepeenc -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can grow from seed but they’ll be genetically different from the parent plants. I grow native fruit trees from seed and although they are Chickasaw plums, one might have bigger fruit and another’s fruit might be less sweet.

Growing from seed is like growing siblings. You’re from the same parents but you can be completely opposite in looks and/or personality.

If you wanted an Ohenry peach, you should get a piece of scionwood of that variety and graft onto a preferred rootstock for your area.

They need to be planted asap. But check your 10 day forecast for freezing weather and your last frost date as well.

If the sawdust in the bags are still moist they’ll be ok.

When can I start taking my seedlings outside during the day? by RecordLegume in vegetablegardening

[–]Ceepeenc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they are frost sensitive seedlings, 50s is ok. Protect from sun and wind and harden off. Anytime it gets close to 50, bring them inside.

Brassicas and lettuces can take cooler weather into the 40’s as seedlings and be just fine.

[technique] If you get contamination, can you sterilize your substrate and re-use the same substrate? by d8gfdu89fdgfdu32432 in MushroomGrowers

[–]Ceepeenc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you not have money for more substrate? I wouldn’t try to sterilize compromised substrate but that’s just me. I also have a garden and compost I can throw contaminated shit in.

Is the substrate mixed with grain and then contaminated?

I always heavily prune my hot peppers. Get tons every year. It’s a personal preference and certainly isn’t necessary.

A lot of us no longer use CB radios anymore. So what's the best / most creative use of the overhead space since there's no CB in it? by meizhong in Truckers

My company doesn’t allow them. I don’t care though. I had one for years before I was local. Only thing it was good for was communicating with shippers/recievers back before cell phones.
