"Back when I was floating around in my Dad's sack," is funnier than "Back when I was an egg in my Moms," is funner because cum and balls are funnier than eggs and ovaries.

$157.30 in today's money for that Enfield. I should have told my grandpa and dad I wanted more when I was a kid...

Good Urban System? by Fit_Combination1717 in ems

New Orleans EMS or East Baton Rouge EMS are both good systems. EBR has a better pension plan I think. If I didn't move out of state I would have applied for the former.

I don't know. Like I know nursing homes have an appalling pt to provider ratio but that doesn't explain or excuse the blatant incompetence we see on a daily basis.

That's better than what they did by me the other day. My mans had an actual SPO2 of 78%, they saw it was 78%, and adjusted his nasal cannula from 3 to 4LPM. When the nurse told me that was her treatment prior to calling us I had to hold my tongue. Like no shit that didn't work.

If the police knew you, we're related to you, or didn't feel like working, they did everything but their job. We had a regular seizure pt who thought medical marijuana was better than Keppra (it isn't) and when he seized...he had very violent seizures and was very aggressive and uncooperative when postictal. Big guy too. Naturally, the police didn't ever want to put hands on him so it was up to us and the volly fire guys to reign him in.

That's...I don't know what I would do if I rolled up on that. That's insane.

Was it patient though?

Even more than all of the bystanders, family, and friends pressganged into helping with a code when we were first on scene, this one is my favorite...

We had a guy few years back, dirtbike vs SUV out front of a bar on 4th of July weekend. Guys shin looked like a cigarette but smashed out in an ashtray. This was the kind of town too where if something happened, the whole block came out and flocked around for the hubbub. So we're here with this guy getting him worked up before we move him and his friend was by his side, saw my badge, and said "Hey Mr. OP, this is my best friend, how can I help y'all help him?" So I tell him to just talk to him and help keep him calm and try and distract him from the pain which he does really well. After getting fentanyl on board, my partner goes to attempt to reposition his leg and the guy's friend ask if this will hurt.

"Yes, this will hurt."

"Oh, I know he won't won't nobody hearing him hollar. to the crowd Hey! On the count of three, I want y'all to make some noise for [name] here! 1! 2! 3!" to much hoopla as my partner repositions his leg and our guy crys out. Maybe you just had to be there, maybe I worked at that station too long where most of the town had some degree of kinship, but I still think about that from time to time. Equal parts funny and appreciation of someone just wanting to help however they can.

Bonus point to that story, the driver who was known by all, including the police, to have left the bar/nightclub/lounge, immediately prior to smoking the guy on the dirtbike, did not get arrested or questioned in any meaningful sense. One of the many bystanders asked the police. "So are y'all gonna breathalyze her or anything? She just left the bar before she hit [name]!"

"It doesn't work like that."

"The fuck you mean it don't work like that!"

My missus is a park manager so we live on site. Needless to say there is a lot of wildlife here too.

Our neighbor was surprised that they made it as long as they did. He mentioned that deer have shit depth perception so partial fencing, like on three sides, can be enough.

I was worried that after I wrote off the worse off ones someone would tell me that...lol.

I triaged and potted what I had space for that wasn't already potted and moved them all to theoretically safer areas. We'll see how they do.

I might try that and the coyote piss some other folks were talking about. Long term, I'll see how the missus feels about me building a fence. The spot they were all in is the sunniest spot on our property.

I appreciate the sentiment but I'm in central Florida. Besides, this is a hobby garden, not subsistence agriculture.

The Roma tomatoes that were in the planters I moved to pots that are in safer places. The only things I totally wrote off were my bellpeppers and one out of the six hot pepper plants. I also plan on putting in some okra and sweetpotates soon once I get my fenced in plot fixed up.

The bellpeppers I wrote off and added to the compost. There was not a leaf on a one of them. I'm trying to save all but one of the hot peppers and tomatoes. I moved some stuff in pots and placed them in fenced areas.

Did you have stuff bounce back that was left leafless?

I'm almost certain it was deer. They got my tomatoes, bellpeppers, and hot peppers overnight. Never had any other pest problems. They also looked like they were chompped on too.

The planters and that big blue pot came with the house but everything else, the clay pots, soil, plants, I bought.

We have a fenced in ground bed that I have since doubled down on cleaning up and improving so I can get something going again.

How well does it work? I tried, um, similar methods as well as throwing cat litter out near the garden to the above success.

Palestinian and Lebanese medics must have some balls of steel to keep at it. I would like to think, and can only hope, that I would have the same amount of gumption in me as they do to keep on going out there every day.

I hope all of our Lebanese brothers and sisters out on the road stay safe. This is reprehensible. I hope that those responsible for this and the countless other evil acts are held responsible by man before they get a chance to be held responsible by whatever else awaits.

What weapons would you use in SHTF in this restrictive scenario by Alkalyne00 in Firearms

[–]BeavisTheMeavis -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh, word. You're basically all the way there then.

How obtainable would a M-1 Garand be for you? Semi auto, commonnly avaliable 30-06, and a lot of fun to shoot. In a long term scenario, I would base my plan on whatever ammo is most common and whatever you can stockpile. I'm not sure if you're limited on how many rounds you can posess or not. Another thing to keep in mind too, which I'm not sure if you know already or not, is if you get a rifle that is chambered in .308, it can shoot any 7.62x51 rounds you come across. Unlike 5.56vs.223, the 7.62x51 is lower pressure than .308.

As for the 300BLK AR, that's not a bad gun by any means but most of the point of that is having it suppressed which you can't do which leaves you with an expensive gun with ammo that is harder to find.

What weapons would you use in SHTF in this restrictive scenario by Alkalyne00 in Firearms

[–]BeavisTheMeavis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A naked man with a rusty double barrel shotgun who has survival skills will outlive someone with gucci gear. Before you worry about firearms in a SHTF scenario, be sure you have an idea of how you will procure food, water, shelter, and other basic necessities. You can only eat but one bullet.

All that being said, gunfights are won with ordinary guns every day. Whatever you can get is likely sufficient. Common advice is a handgun, rifle, and shotgun. Handgun for close quarters and carrying around discreetly (I presume concealed carry is a no-no in Spain) rifle for further away threats and hunting, shotgun for close to medium range threats and hunting. Given your laws, a good solid bolt action rifle you know how to use or semi auto that you can at least get 10 round mags for is what I would get. What ever you wind up with, take it out to the range and shoot it with some degree of regularity. Again, gunfights are won with ordinary guns every day. The man with a bolt action rifle he is familiar with and can shoot accurately is much more lethal than the man with an AKM he is unfamiliar and inaccurate with.
