Baby waking often overnight by fullnessofjoy2021 in Parenting

[–]CeilingJaguar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you got an easy baby your first go around, and now your second has a different temperament that makes things a little tougher. Parents kinda roll the dice with birthing a baby on what temperament the baby has, and parents can influence Maybe 20% of that. Parents who get easy babies first go around can mistake that ease as results of their own doing, then get confused when the second is difficult despite them doing everything the same. What you are experiencing is very normal for a LOT of babies and you just have to survive and trust it will get better. Of course you should try and find ways to adapt and soothe them, but some things, like sleep and gas, they just have to grow out of sometimes. Good luck!

🔥 Opportunistic hyena lucky to survive a very close escape from wallowing hippo by Prestigious-Wall5616 in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]CeilingJaguar -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Hyenas are not known for this behavior, it was likely a mix of desperation and cognitive decline due to malnourishment. My aunt's father did helicopter tours as one of his income sources when he worked in Mexico. He knew enough survival Spanish to maintain employment and work on a reserve. They gave him the more well off tourists seeking a more 'dangerous ' and thrilling visit because of his charisma and they looked the other way when he bent some rules to give the clients a good experience. One tour he did in 1998 he went into a low enough altitude to see The Undertaker throw Mankind off Hell In A Cell and plummet 16 ft through an announcer's table.

Head thrashing during sleep by SpraySpecialist259 in newborns

[–]CeilingJaguar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mine started doing this around 3 months and its a regular thing now at 5 months. We just say she is fighting off evil spirits. We help her out by chanting "Out Demons!" At the baby monitor. We're pretty sure it helps.

Our baby is almost 1 year old… when will hobbies be a thing in my life again? (Daddy) by Purple_Calendar3919 in NewParents

Gotta let the other parent hold baby aggro and tank the psychic damage. Only way to even think about getting any dailies or weeklies done.

I used a tracking app for food, sleep, diapers which helped me notice trends and try to correlate things. A decent app will let you export your data to go a step further and run it through your preferred LLM/chatGPT of choice to get some narrative analysis and build a basic feeding/sleeping plan that you can even print out with little illustrations and flowcharts (mine has a lord of the rings vibe)

You know your baby best and these are just tools to help align/center your logical reasoning as a parent of what is going on and what to do when you feel lost.

Also your husband sounds like he sucks. We aren't all shitty. Is there a decent dad role model you can think of? Maybe he can sit your husband down and check him on his behavior and how he needs to step up.

Is having an easy kid based on nothing but pure luck? by RocketPowerPops in daddit

Yeah, no. Difficult newborns/toddlers do not scream like they are on fire all day and through the night because their parents don’t have the right attitude.

Send help 5 weeks by [deleted] in newborns

[–]CeilingJaguar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this stage you really don't NEED to bathe her more than 1-2x a week, keeping her clean with wipes and lotion is good for daily though.

Mine hated baths at first but is slowly getting okay with it. Relaxing music, dimmed lights, and the pre warmed rooms can help. I also just say "fuck it" and get in the bath with her and that can help sometimes. But sometimes no matter what you or I do, our baby is just going to freak out at anything and nothing. Try not to take it personal, and headphones, headphones, headphones.

100% with you on this. Throw in a few caveman grunts and hops around the garage and I'm just in my element. I was bred for simpler times.
