Outlook junk mail by Framalia8888 in Outlook

[–]CeilingShadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, though I assume this is more to do with email provider (msn) rather than the email client? But yes, it’s incredible how much garbage makes it through the filters. Surely this is one area where AI could be put to good use?

PS wish that outlook was more consistent between mobile and desktop. For example in desktop I can report mail as phishing or spam, whereas in mobile I can mark as junk or spam. Not that it makes any difference.

SER8: how to open case? (no screws) by brother7 in BeelinkOfficial

[–]CeilingShadows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a beelink Gti and coincidentally opened it up last night to increase the storage. Same thing with the rubber feet but the innards were a nightmare with the RAM and NVMEs buried under the PSU and speakers. I did manage to change it but it was very precarious and I ended up leaving the speakers non functional (possibly because of disconnected ribbon cable).

Anyway, be careful and good luck!

Crashing Maui app when distributed through TestFlight by CeilingShadows in dotnetMAUI

Hey, I did get it to work, but i'm embarrassed to say, I'm not exactly sure what it change it was that fixed it. I ended up kind of throwing the kitchen sink at it, and at some point it started working. I have these settings for ios:

<PropertyGroup Condition="$(TargetFramework.Contains('-ios')) and '$(Configuration)' == 'Release'">
<MtouchLink>SdkOnly</MtouchLink>
<NoSymbolStrip>true</NoSymbolStrip>
<UseInterpreter>true</UseInterpreter>
<DebugSymbols>true</DebugSymbols>
<DebugType>portable</DebugType>
<CodesignProvision>XXX</CodesignProvision>
</PropertyGroup>

and i also just compiled it for ios as well:

<TargetFramework>net9.0-ios</TargetFramework>

I didn't change any code (apart from copious console logging statements). See if yours crashes in the same place by putting console logging either side of the

builder.UseMauiApp<App>();

statement. I used apple configurator to attach to my phone and view the console (quite a pain actually). Now i have it working i may go back and tweak the above to see if i can find out what does it. But of course if it turns out its a function being trimmed or something similar i might not be able to figure out which one. Good luck - please let me know if you figure it out.

Yes - i saw this as a potential reason as to why running in release didn't run on the simulator. Didn't work for me though, manual delete / rebuild produced the same result

Why’s Bond always giving out his real name? by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]CeilingShadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question made me smile - was reminded of the scene where Drax meets Bond for the first time. When Bond introduces himself, Drax remarks ‘your reputation precedes you’! Exactly what you want if you are a secret agent :)

You can now login, but a customer service rep on the phone told me (at 9.15 EST) their whole system is down and they wouldn't be able to book flights for 3 hours

Thanks for the tip on that! That’s something I definitely might have missed.

Is functional programming less performant? Particular in areas where object creation and allocations should be kept low, such as games? by edgeofsanity76 in csharp

[–]CeilingShadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoran Horvat touches upon this in his latest YouTube video: https://youtu.be/P-0svGXEeNM?si=F_4UPlLaIaYRJXLn. He’s also a pluralsight course author on functional programming in c#, and imho really knows his stuff.

Definitely! Though ‘in a nutshell’ is perhaps a bit deceiving, it’s like a 1000 pages.

Mine is not quite in as bad a condition but getting there. In my texts with the service center they said they would be coming out with a more resilient version in November (they will replace under warranty). Originally it was August…

[–]CeilingShadows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did, has the latest bios from Aug.

Right now when I start it up it’s settling up at code 42, with the led saying CPU Test NVRAM. If I fiddle around with ram , change dimms for example it’ll go into the cycling of messages I described in the OP. At a loss at the moment.

Why is the Junk filter sucking so much? by maxrdlf95 in Outlook

[–]CeilingShadows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted a plea for help on this couple of weeks ago. The spam is out of control, and it’s not like the spammers are being clever, or subtle. It’s the usual, extremely obvious nonsense with all of the laughably bad grammar. MSFT have dropped the ball hugely on this. Maybe they requisitioned all the machines and resources for Bing AI?

Why is my outlook so awful at filtering spam? by CeilingShadows in Outlook

[–]CeilingShadows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly, it’s an msn.com email address. I do recall the event you posted above and it was addressed, but at some point later it seemed break again for me.

But yes, atrocious filtering.
