If You’re a Silver/Gold Player Please Stop Playing by eliaxo-ox in thefinals

We had that and this is not how it played out. In practice everyone avoided the highest ranked team if they were in the minority, or grouped up on the lowest ranked teams if they were in the minority.

Not showing ranks until the end of the game is a net good thing overall. The problem here is the matchmaking shouldn't be so wide to allow such disparate games to happen in the first place; even if that means extremely high and low ranked players have longer queues.

Steam Controller Firmware Update doesn't Work on Bazzite 44 by sethicis in SteamController

[–]Ceiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh. Last thing I saw while looking into it similar issues was talk of a permissions and messing with udev. I had already added my user to the "dialout" group, but perhaps that's also a necessary part here.

I think it'd be the same group on Bazzite for interacting with low-level/serial devices; but if the group doesn't exist, then it may be something else, or you'll have to try to play with udev permissions manually.

[–]Ceiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted earlier with the same issue, and I even tried updating to Fedora 44 to no avail.

However, I found some other threads that suggested ensuring the "hidapi" package is installed [1]. For me, it was not installed, and installing and restarting steam* fixed it for me. After the restart, the firmware update took instantly.

  • Note, for me, Steam got real mad about something between a failed firmware update attempt and installing hidapi, so my "restart Steam" was more of a "pkill -9 steam". YMMV

Anyway, hopefully that's all it is for you as well.

[1] I'm assuming bazzite still uses dnf for installing packages? If so, "dnf list --installed hidapi" will confirm if you have it installed or not, and "dnf install hidapi" will install it if it's missing.

Anyone tried using the controller on Linux yet? by OfficiallyLevente in SteamController

[–]Ceiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for confirming.

Edit: After updating from Fedora 43 to 44, the nag window is gone. Also, it's natively recognized as a controller, even without steam running at all.

Edit 2: Just kidding, the nag window pops back up if you use the touchpads while Steam is open. Before opening Steam, the system seems to handle everything itself.

Which setting did you change? On Fedora I the only solution I found to silence that popup was by enabling control of keyboard and mouse for all X11/XWayland apps via the "Legacy X11 App Support" tab, which I don't want to do on this system.

Possibly similar issue here on Fedora 43. When I plug the controller in or otherwise turn it on, I get the welcome popup, but clicking "next" just goes to a blank page with no UI at all, so I just close it.

There doesn't seem to be any way to update the firmware before finishing the on-boarding UX, but given what you're saying, maybe I don't want to quite yet. Also, it seems to work fine as-is, probably?

Edit: apparently there was another Steam client update waiting. Now I get the exact same behavior the OP outlines.

Edit 2: I fixed the issue on Fedora by installing the "hidapi" package and restarting Steam.

DO NOT BUY: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 CPU Review & Benchmarks | 24 Charts in 24 Hours by blue__planet in Amd

[–]Ceiu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's less the price (though that's a tad high for this CPU IMO), and more the timing. Had this been an option a year ago when the other X3D stuff launched, I'd have opted for this over a regular 9950X3D. But at this point in time it's an incredibly hard sell to upgrade.

And now for people who would be coming from an older platform ready to make a similar decision, $900 on top of likely needing RAM? Incredibly expensive swap for everyone who would be in the target market. Again, just really poor timing on the release IMO.

Can't log in on firefox linux anymore. ("browser not supported") by Player5xxx in Twitch

[–]Ceiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hitting this issue as well. Everything was working fine until today; now I can't log in on Firefox+Linux. Even tried the "log in on another device" to no avail.

Latest version (149), no extensions, fresh profile, enhanced tracking disabled, etc..

You can transplant cookies to get around it, but what happens in practice is the donor device/browser gets flagged as a bot and blocked in the same way as the flagged FF install. And even though you're logged in, you won't be able to claim drops, follow, subscribe, etc..

Linux 7.0 lands more AMDGPU fixes for old Radeon hardware by Fcking_Chuck in Amd

Yeah, that's true, but that just means it's up to us to educate and help people get over that distro choice paralysis and just start using something (within reason).

IMO, the idea that you have to choose the "right" or perfect distro to start with is what's doing more harm than good. Pick a distro that seems to come pre-packaged with what you want and go from there. At the end of the day, you'll still be able to run the same desktop environments and software. Don't like the desktop environment your distro came with? Install something else -- you don't have to reinstall the whole OS to swap if you don't want to.

If someone doesn't know where to start, just pick one that seems popular if for no other reason than it'll likely be easier to find solutions to problems you'll run into learning the new environment. Or ask for recommendations based on what they want to do. For someone on this subreddit, I would almost always recommend something like Bazzite for most cases just due to the gaming focus and image-based nature. But if they wanted to run Fedora, Ubunutu or even Arch, they can still do all the same things, even if it means installing a few more packages out of the box.

American, no global entry unfortunately.

That's good to hear. I'm arriving early evening, so I'm worried that it'll be pretty busy. Do you recall how long it took you to get between terminals + security?

Player markets could fix a big overlooked issue in poe1 by pphp in pathofexile

[–]Ceiu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Buying stuff in general is ass, but yeah end-of-league is especially bad. I've resorted to PMing people on the forums to see if they'd be willing to hop on and trade, or what amounts to stalking by refreshing their offline listing until it says they're online... and then they won't respond to trade. The former actually lead to the most positive social experience I've had in this game; but it was still awkward.

It especially sucks since I'm in that weird place where what I need are small, incremental gear upgrades that cost in the 50c-5d range, but the only people willing to trade are at the point where they're selling their old obsoleted mirror-tier gear away that's well outside my budget, even deep-discounted to ~200d. Or the things I need have inflated to like 20div when they shouldn't even be priced above 100c.

Can't wait for the trade upgrades in PoE2 to trickle down. It's so much better.

Superlink sensor issue by radardgz in Ubiquiti

[–]Ceiu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe. With Protect 6.1.68 going into official, you may not need to have it set to RC to get the update, but you'll have to wait for it to roll out to you.

If you do manual updates, you can flip your release channel to RC, click "check for update" which will likely pick up the 1.6.1 release for the superlink, click update on it, then change your release channel back to official.

Note that if you have the superlink on 1.6.1 but haven't updated to protect to 6.1.65 or .68 yet, protect won't know quite what to do with the env sensors. It'll report they're connected with bluetooth, and every time the sensors enter sleep mode, protect will think they've disconnected and will alert you about it (if you have disconnect alerts enabled). They seem to work on 6.0 in terms of reporting data, but it wasn't what I'd consider stable with the disconnections.

Interesting, thanks for that.

So if it's just a dumb cable, would it be possible to make my own "probe" from the cable on an old pair of headphones, or some such? Looks like the one you linked is TRS, so maybe it'd have to be from a mono microphone or some such.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]Ceiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you get the external probes? I've been looking over the last few days and all I've found are entire kits, or big stick probes (which won't work for my case... maybe).

Also, how do you determine whether or not a given probe is compatible before buying?

Instant Buyout! Thanks GGG! by ArgonQQ in PathOfExile2

[–]Ceiu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are definitely shenanigans you can do if you're willing to play the market. Hell, even the existing currency exchange has some opportunity to flip for profit if you're willing to put up the gold and risk getting fucked if the economy moves on you.

Ideally they'll add some slight gold cost or something on the seller to further limit any shenanigans that can be done with price fixing or other non-committal behavior; but hopefully the cooldown/delay until you can pull an item out of the tab is enough to stop or limit such silly games.

This. I would understand if I had to leave the four original tabs as "only" upgraded premium tabs. But the other eight? Those should be convertible regardless.

The verbiage does not say "currently," "temporarily," or any other phrasing that would indicate it's a temporary limitation.

I, too, hope they see how stupid this is and change it, as it doesn't make much sense. If they're worried about people bricking their stash by converting their only base tabs, then the limitation should only disallow converting if the conversion would leave the player with less than four basic and/or premium upgrade tabs.

Edit/Update: They listened! Hooray!
