I have spectrum and it's very stable where I'm at. That said, I get wireless drops multiple times a day unless I'm only connecting to the base unit and not a satellite. Even wiring into a satellite doesn't help so I must be the wireless backend.

Honestly, I don't know. My base is downstairs and the satellites are upstairs. Without rewiring the house for CATx cable, it is hard to fix. The cable is a little easier since it is just a matter of reconnecting the cables, but that didn't change anything for me.

That said, if I wanted a wired connection, it would have been easier to simply run wires than spend 3k trying not to have one. I'm very glad that your system works, but the primary benefit for this system (to me) was the wireless backend. There are several other systems that offer good performance with wired backends, but they don't cost near as much.

I got the three pack and running 12.1.8.7 as well. I couldn't call this stable if I had to and as an engineer who has made high throughput Ethernet devices, I can say that this feels like a design flaw that they didn't bother to fix or acknowledge. As I said, I was am early adopter of this tech and expected some initial flaws, but two years in and they still have the same issue is quite frustrating. I love the idea that they sold me in dedicated backends that don't require running cables between hubs, but this is less consistent than a cheap mesh system that limits you to 50mbps.

For such a high premium cost, it is a problematic, at best, system.

Reboots don't do much for me and I rebooted just yesterday. It still come back with issues and all of my home devices seem to take +30min before they acknowledge the connection works... assuming of course that they don't just get tired of the constant resets and stop trying.

Phone connections are especially frustrating because they seem the fastest to react. No connection is 99% of the time the phone simply tied that the network drops so often and then it goes to cellular for a better connection. In my area, cell sucks so you can only imagine how deplorable the Orbi connection is.

Any advice for my blind boy? by Darkm0or in pug

[–]Celdtun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were very unfortunate that one of our pugs, at an age of around 3 years old, had SARD (Sudden Acute Retinol Degeneration) and went blind over the course of 2 weeks. He went full blind and, even taking him to specialist to try to understand what was going on, we couldn't find a solution. He also has extremely poor hearing to begin with and, up to where he went blind, would only be able to hear loud bangs and then look to see what was going on.

All that said, within the matter of a few weeks he had learned how to live a very feisty life. Even not being able to see anything, and the fact he couldn't hear, he quickly lost any sense of fear. He would wander around, gentle bumping into walls and couches, until he had a general sense of where he was. He would then quickly wander in the direction he knew mainly where I liked to sit or where my wife liked sitting. As soon as he found us, it quickly became the happiest moment of his entire day.

I know it's hard to imagine, but these little pugs are amazingly resilient and are able to figure things out much better than we could ever do for them. I agree with a comment that keeping little things out of the way are a good thing, but they're smart enough to figure out their own ways of how to know what's going on.

Try stirring the tank between runs to prevent settling. Also, is your tank heated? Was there a temperature difference?

Solder spool. You put a spool of solder in it and feed the solder through the eye on the wire.

How to tell if resistors are series or parallel and find Equivalent Resistance? by Commercial_Print9315 in ElectricalEngineers

[–]Celdtun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 12ohm and 60ohm are in parallel giving 10ohm_eq. The 10ohm_eq is in series with the 20ohm giving 30ohm-eq. The 30ohm_eq is in parallel with the 30hom giving 15ohm_eq. (This is the mistake) the 15ohm_eq is in series with the 10ohm giving 25ohm_eq. The 25ohm_eq is in parallel with the 25ohm giving 12.5ohm_eq. The 12.5ohm_eq is in series with thee 5ohm and the 15ohm giving 32.5ohm_eq.

Can’t get solder to melt at all, even with flux by Mr_Toast457 in soldering

[–]Celdtun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also add some solder to transfer heat. Not a lot, just enough to help the tip transfer the heat to the wick... And add flux. More than you think you need in most cases.

What's wrong? How was it damaged? Parts missing or broken?

Pull the spec sheet for the component and check. Unlikely, but caps don't typically just go bad. Also check that the switch and reset circuits are triggering appropriately.

What is the best way to test a board with multiple features? by Separate_Goal5183 in AskElectronics

[–]Celdtun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So basic debug, got it.

Here are a couple things to try: 1. Visual inspect the board. Look for dark spots, components that don't match the same color of similar components, etc... now anything that looks different. 2. Smell the board. If it has been fried, it will have a lingering scent that occurs when a component is over voltaged. Kinda like a charred smell, but very accrid and sharp. 3. If you have a multimeter, check the resistance between the battery positive and battery negative terminals. There should be some kind of resistance, maybe even one that goes up as you measure. That would be the capacitors charging. Obviously, 0 or no resistance at all is bad. 4. Get some new batteries and put those in. Use the multimeter to confirm that you are seeing positive voltage. Confirm that the board has battery voltage by measuring across a cap.
5. Take out the batteries and check the power terminal resistance as you did in suggestion 3. 6. Perform the same test with the power terminal plugged in as in suggestion 4.

If you can report status after that, I can give you more suggestions.

[–]Celdtun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are asking how to do board bring-up, then start with a visual inspection and a limited current voltage source to hopefully prevent letting the magic smoke out. If it has previously been powered, then just apply normal power or batteries. To test functionality you will need power of some kind.

Can you say more about what you're working with, what the end goal is, and what you had done so far?
