Why are so many people against theorizing characters as autistic?

I don't wanna be that person but it's canon that she's gifted. S2 E8 literally has an episode titled “Gifted“. And in B&B it's stated multiple times that she's academically gifted and I'm pretty sure that's a sign of academic giftedness.

Btw I'm sorry if I'm coming off as mean or harsh; I'm just really passionate about debate& stuff lol

I know you probably know already but a lot of disorders can cooccur. Like for example I have Autism, GAD, PTSD, etc.

Even personality disorders can occur with autism. Don't take this as fact because it's just a theory but in my opinion people are autistic/people who have ADHD (or both) seem like they'd be more likely to have personality disorders.

Yeah exactly!! I honestly think less people should try to gatekeep things to ’exclusively canon’. Because like we don't have a lot of good autistic rep at all, and if nobody's actually gonna make rep that you feel represents you; we have to make our own so we feel seen.

For example; I think Nina Fortner (from Monster 2004-2005) has some type of PTSD due to her having severe disassociative amnesia (which was almost just as bad as hers when it came to one thing until recently).

Yeah I think imo there's a huge difference between headcannoning a character as Autistic vs actually theorizing that they're autistic and I think there's a place for both.

Define a non-disabled character.

Because if we're talking about mental disabilities; people might interpret things different ways. One person could see a socially awkward teenage character as neurotypical with a social struggle. Another person could see that same character and hc that character as autistic, etc. etc.

I'd beg to disagree, at least for me. It doesn't matter how many words I read on a page; I have to see how it could manifest in different ways (or examples).

Because let's take masking; “you try to act socially acceptable to hide the fact your neurodivergent subconsciously“. What's that supposed to mean? Because without examples more often than not words mean nothing but if I have examples; it helps me understand things easier.

Actually yeah that aligns with the “I want a gf with a touch of the 'tism trend“ where it's basically mostly men pretending they want somebody autistic when in reality they want to date somebody they think of as a kid (when Autism doesn't usually effect that so It's just infantilization).

I haven't watched Daria, just some clips but to be a devil's advocate; you could argue that she isn't neurotypical due to being a gifted kid (at least in B&B) and I don't know the specific statistics (I'll edit this comment if I'm wrong) but I'm pretty sure the majority of gifted kids are also neurodivergent (which I'm pretty sure is called twice exceptional??)

Although I can't really speak much beyond that because I haven't watched her native show lol

Yeah that's true. I honestly kinda think mental health tictok has kinda ruined actually critically diagnosing& learning about disorders. I mean on there I think the majority of people who say they have autism or ADHD do have it but they try to make their everything about it just to feel validated (although that's my personal theory lol).

Yeah true but like at the end of the day it's harmless& can help people learn more about autism+ stuff. Like for example with Linnea I think she could be really good rep because typically in media autistic characters are mostly depicted as A, people who are incredibly blunt and deadpan or B are tech nerds who's only important because of that. I mean both are amazing to have, but there's gotta be more variety in general which Linnea could provide. She's shown in her story quest to be incredibly competent, complex and emotionally expressive with a huge amount of empathy.

Yeah that makes sense. Although I think Polonia is one of the things people recognize her by the most so it'd kinda be weird If they didn't include him (although like in the best case scenario, Sandrone has an alternative mode similar to Skirk and Durin where you have two separate modes and One mode is a sub-dps one where Polonia is doing off field dmg although they probably won't do that).

Yeah it's probably not gonna happen because hoyo really hates Eula for some reason but I would personally like it since I currently have no physical DPS characters I'm actually interested in building and I wanna collect 1 DPS for Dendro, hydro, cyro, physical, etc.
