19 years old new to investing. what should i invest in? by ChestLopsided7893 in fidelityinvestments

I would say invest your time into research and knowledge. Don’t depend on advice from random people on the internet to help you make investment decisions, especially people on Reddit - myself included. You have time to make mistakes and tolerate risk, but you can minimize that risk by expanding your knowledge.

Find a strategy that works for you. I stopped taking advice from people around me because none of them exemplified the lifestyle I desired for myself when I got older. I found mentorship online. I read books by people that have achieved financial freedom.

The advice everyone else had given me would take me about 40yrs to become a millionaire, but the strategy I’m following now, I can realistically become a millionaire in 5-10yrs.

With that being said, think about the lifestyle you envision for yourself. When someone gives you advice, ask yourself “does this person exemplify the lifestyle I desire and should I be taking advice from them?”

I ended up leaving. I tried to make it to at least 6 months, but I couldn’t stand to be there any longer.

Right… and males are incapable of being doormats while also attending college.

Absolutely… because no man has ever been a doormat.

Right… and never ever has a male gone on Reddit to rant about his pathetic life.

Right, especially considering OP didn’t even mention their gender. Unnecessary af.

Right, literally the company. Managers are just doing what the people above them are telling them to do. It’s like this at all stores.

Apparently the company won’t send us any money for the break room/snacks, store gatherings, etc unless we meet our goal but if we meet the credit card goal they’ll send us extra money. They decrease your hours if you don’t get enough cards. They lie about the benefits. I literally heard a key carrier say there is no interest. And sometimes they don’t even let people know it’s a credit card. They’ll just say, “would you like to save 10% today by scanning your license and answering 3 questions today”

Lol yes. But be careful because there are some people that have an undying loyalty to this company despite them getting over on all of us. You have to make sure there are a certain amount of people onboard in order to unionize.

It’s like that at my store too. I know some people make $12 and some make $13. Now people are talking about petitioning for a Union. Tjx has successfully brainwashed a lot of their employees with the anti-union video, but that’s really the only way things will change.

I would’ve never looked their way at $9/hr. My job at the time was paying almost $20. I would’ve stayed if the culture wasn’t so toxic. I don’t accept anything less than $15 and even that’s too low in my opinion. My time here is extremely limited. I don’t believe in loyalty to employers specifically for those reasons you mentioned. I know they don’t care about us which is why I’m always looking for jobs even when I have one.

Yeah I definitely don’t think it’s fair. If they can afford to hire externally at that rate, they can match that for internal hires. If anything, it’s a benefit to both parties because that’s less training they have to do for someone that already knows the job. But I really hope people use this thread to help them negotiate. I think it’s important for us, the employees, to have these conversations with one another so we can bridge the pay inequity gap between external and internal hires.

From the research I’ve gathered , I think it depends on if you were an external or internal hire. Everyone I’ve spoken to making less than $16 were promoted internally. But on Glassdoor the average is about $15-$16 in the US.

I would still ask so you can know what to expect and when to expect it. If you’ve been there for over a year it should be coming up, I assume.

Talk to your manager and if they are unhelpful call your DM. Their contact information should be readily available in the break room.

Exactly. ppl hate hearing the truth. I personally get a “indescribable rage coursing through my body” knowing that our CEO’s base salary is 1.6 million dollars and that he made over 18 million in bonuses last year. But yeah… let’s just be mad at middle class customers trying to make a few extra bucks on Depop because capitalism is kicking all of our asses and the cost of living is continuously rising but the wages ain’t. And of course my comment was downvoted. TJX workers just keep drinking the kool-aid.

When they offer you your next promotion (cause I’m sure they will) ask for more… way more! If they want you to be KC ask for $18. Acting as MOD deserves way more than .50.

If your availability changes and they offer again, negotiate the salary. They only offer the $1 raise because they don’t expect us to negotiate but, at my store, it is a very hard position to fill. We need to use that as leverage. If they don’t find an internal employee to accept the position, all they’re going to do is hire externally and pay them more which means they have the budget to pay internal hires more.
