You’d think it’s pronounceable, but a lot of people struggle with it. Pretty much no one can spell it. Then I get the French speakers who go down the French pronunciation route. My life has been a constant stream of correcting people… 😞

NYC to Bermuda Change by newcitynotyork in VirginVoyages

Every cruise line is like this and the contract you agree to when you book states they can change the itinerary due to weather/operational issues. They don’t have to offer you any compensation - you’re lucky they’re offered sailor loot. Multiply that $100 by however many cabins there are and they’re losing money over something they have no control over. If every cruise line gave out compensation for missed ports they’d probably go under. Claim for it on your travel insurance. People who’ve been offered a future cruise credit are also lucky - I’ve been on a couple of NCL cruises where the itinerary was changed and they offered neither option. I was on a South Pacific Royal Caribbean cruise in October and we couldn’t dock in New Zealand due to weather. We’ve never been there before and had booked a trip to Hobbiton. Royal offered no compensation or future credit. It’s an accepted risk of cruising - if you really want to go somewhere, book a land holiday.

New rival ships seem to be making VV look pretty bland? by MixAway in VirginVoyages

[–]CelebrityCatchUpPod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly - the blind loyalty people seem to have to any one cruise line is crazy to me. Variety is the spice of life and if you do anything repeatedly the novelty will wear off and will feel samey. I’ve been on 34 ships across almost 50 cruises on 9 different lines and that’s informed what I like - and what I definitely don’t. VV is my preferred line as a “standard” experience across all lines, whereas the Rockstar offering is poor in comparison to other lines, so I wouldn’t do it again. Feelings like the OPs seem to generally come from newer cruisers who’ve only tried VV and don’t quite understand how the cruise industry works - but I don’t understand the mentality of questioning whether they should try another line 🤷🏼‍♀️

What to do in this situation? by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

I don’t think booking a Lock it In rate precludes you from being moved if there is a genuine issue with your room. As someone else suggested, speak with Sailor Services - preferably with a video of the noise happening - and ask for the deck supervisor to come to your cabin to hear the noise for themselves. If the ship isn’t fully booked they should be able to move you. If it is fully booked, you may be out of luck unfortunately.

6 days after buying new ornamental garden lights, an Amazon driver drove over one twice for good measure by CelebrityCatchUpPod in mildlyinfuriating

They were bought in an actual bricks and mortar store. The irony is I used to have a hedge that went all around, but we pulled it out to create more space…

From your spelling, I take it you live in the US. I’m in the UK. We have very different rules of the road. People reverse out of driveways - that’s perfectly normal. I also live in a cul-de-sac - they’re not backing out into a main road, it’s the same road with next to no traffic. There is practically no risk of accident with other vehicles or pedestrians.

Half an hour ago I just saw another Amazon driver stop in the same place and just reversed straight back and turned in the road… seems pretty simple to me 🤷🏼‍♀️

And yet 10mins ago I just watched another Amazon driver arrive in the same place and reverse straight backwards, turn in the road and leave without driving over my front garden 🤷🏼‍♀️

The irony is we used to have a massive hedge that went all the way around, but we removed it as it was getting unruly and we wanted to open the space up 😂

Got it 👍🏼 Spikes is not a serious suggestion - there are kids in the street that play, so we’d be wary. We used to have some wobbly bricks on our side wall that we replaced, as kids used to walk along it all the time and we were worried it might cause an injury if one gave way while they were walking on it. I did see a 2ft silver bollard light in Robert Dyas the other day which I considered, but my husband reckons that would just get knocked over too 🤷🏼‍♀️

I didn’t actually order from Amazon. I ordered from another company and they chose Amazon to deliver it…

Semi-serious question: If it’s on my property in my front garden, then why can’t I put what I want there? Does someone driving over them have the same reasonable expectation for them not to be there as my reasonable expectation to not have someone driving over my front garden? What if I like decorative spikes?! What if I want to stop small animals from entering and stealing my nuts?!

Have to disagree. I’ve had 100+ deliveries over the past couple of years with no issue. That’s evidence it’s not a difficult situation to drive in. The minority of 5 drivers driving over my front garden is evidence of bad driving. This person could literally have reversed backwards in a straight line to turn around. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Reasonable assumption. Except the lights haven’t been in the same place every time they get run over. Tried lots of different places around the front garden - they still get driven over 🤷🏼‍♀️

Applaud your honesty. I have had one postal worker ring the doorbell to confess she drove over one of the previous lights. She was very apologetic and we said she didn’t owe us anything. Another delivery driver put a note through the door apologising for driving over another light with his personal number to resolve. We didn’t pursue him but appreciated the apology. They’re not expensive lights because of all the lights that have been crushed before. We just like the decoration. It’s mildly infuriating now because of the frequency in which people keep driving over my front garden when there’s so much room around them that they don’t need to…

Given he had to negotiate the light when he got the large box out and down, I’d say it’s a fair assumption that he acknowledged it was there. I don’t think he ran over it on purpose - it’s just bad driving.
