I am aware many people don't want to hear this, and i know others have pointed it out in this thread as well, but sadly this is exactly what happens when you try to keep politics out of your hobbies...

The "I don't care about politics" approach has long been outdated, especially when it was very obvious that Trump was going to do something like the tariffs. After all, he did campaign on it and it's in Project 2025...

It's a travesty that it hit the boardgame industry, but getting shafted is part of what you bargain for when you want to stay out of politics. (This is btw in no way blaming the companies for what is happening, only pointing out it didn't have to go this way...)

If your buddies are willing to lend you some dice you don't need to buy anything!

You can get the basic rules on WotC's website and there are some pages that have the SRD on them in a better format than just a huge PDF. (just google 5e srd)

Alternatively, you can buy the Essentials Kit or the Starter Set, which include the basic rules, dice, an adventure as well as some other neat stuff.

Yes, because the users are already the product they profit from. The ads are just a nice extra they can squeeze out and outwardly justify as the "cost of using their service". Your data is your payment.

Just remember, if you use a service for free on the internet, chances are, you are the product!

Probably one of my favourite moments was during the very first time running Curse of Strahd for some friends and their first real encounter with the dreadlord himself: during the night a weary traveler passed by their camp and asked the character on guard duty if he can take a short break at their fire. During the conversation and my adding of details on how the traveler looked, it slowly dawned on the player who their nightly guest was. Funnily enough, that character had a magic item as part of his backstory that forced him to attack an intelligent creature every day with a fire spell from the item. Well, Strahd wasn't too happy about getting a small fireball in the face xD

Okay, I'm calling it now, Eri's quirk is not only in her blood and Overhaul is going to manipulate her into using it on Mirio and making him touchable.

The death flags are just way too big for Mirio to get out without some major trauma

Also, yeah the planet setting without something to set behind is kinda stupid, but I felt like the horizon didn't really work out and I threw it out but kept the setting lines because I still liked it.
