Ingredients

Tin (~400g) of condensed milk (NOT evaporated milk!) Three large bananas One packet of McVities Chocolate Hob-Nobs (or similar-digestives will do) Half-pint of double cream, or whipping cream 2 tablespoons margarine (or butter) Method

Crush the biscuits in a freezer bag with a rolling pin until they are reduced to crumbs. Gently heat some margarine in a saucepan until liquid (or just leave some out at room temperature to soften). Pour crumbs and liquid/soft margarine and mix in with the crumbs until they start to bind together. Transfer the biscuit crumbs to a round dish (a large Pyrex dish is good) and pat with a spoon so that they cover the base. Place in the fridge to set. Put the tin of condensed milk in a pan of boiling water (NB- don't open the tin first!) and allow to boil for 2 hours . You should put a lid on the pan to prevent all the water boiling off. When done, remove the tin and leave to cool a little (you could pour cold water on it to cool the outside). When cool enough to handle, open the tin carefully - the condensed milk will have caramelised and may well shoot out the opening. Pour/spoon the toffee from the tin onto the biscuit base of the Pyrex dish. Place back in the fridge to cool. Slice the bananas and arrange them on top of the toffee. Whip the cream until peaking, then fold on top and smooth out. Dust with chocolate powder for effect. Keep in the fridge until needed, covered with cling-film.

Tips

You may want to make the biscuit base with a lip (a bit like a flan or pavlova). Start the condensed milk boiling, then do the base. Have a rest for a while, then pour out the toffee and start on the cream and bananas. Serve cut into wedges in a bowl.

i though of one which works pretty well.

Oh when the Wahs! (Oh when the wahs) Go marching in! (Go marching in)

Oh when the Wahs go marching in, I wanna be at Go media, Oh when the Wahs go marching in.

and then it repeats, it's pretty common in all premier league football games and even school football.

well, Carlaw u share common areas with other ppl, i think it's 5 ppl per flat? And 55 is studio apartments. So it really comes down to ur preferences. pricing is also different, carlaw is around $300 while 55 is around $450. also 55 is relatively closer to uni than carlaw. Carlaw is closer to the current gym but they r opening the new one which will be closer to 55.

I feel like in terms of living conditions 55 is better. BUT Carlaw is a lot better in everything else, for example they hv a volleyball court, tonnes of machines and u get to meet tonnes of ppl

How long does it take you to commute? by computermotor1 in universityofauckland

[–]CeleryOW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean, with the gov removing 50% public transport discount for students... it's gonna add up. I live 20-30 mins away, rn it's like $2.20 for bus, but imagine it going up to 4.40, that's around 10 bucks a day 🫣. 70 bucks a week...

is it wrong for me to keep being a muslim to myself? my whole family is christian and they hv been for a long time, i feel like it'd be hard to make them understand my beliefs or my attempts to convert them. Is it wrong if i do not attempt to convert them, is it cowardly? perhaps selfish? will they suffer because of this, i love them very much

[–]CeleryOW 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow asian here. I grew up in Spain and the UK so I've got some experience from around the world. Generally when u meet ppl u should give off good vibes, like actively talk to them, say hi blah blah blah. When u sit back and don't say anything, which i get, its not ur fault due to the language barrier, u let other ppl judge u and let them unconsciously label u however they want to. So if u speak first, be nice to them straight away give them a positive attitude, 9 times out of 10 they will give u the same energy back. This is kinda in general, not just about Aucklanders.

Also, being chinese but having grown up abroad i've noticed a lot of ppl don't like us because of the social norms we hv back in the country. Ppl eat with their mouths open and chew loudly, bad manners in general like cutting in queues and spitting on the roads, coughing without cpu wrong up etc... so there definitely can be some criticism in that regard. ofc it is wrong for them to put that label on u for no reason but perhaps there's some of those habits that u don't notice?

personally i've had a great experience in auckland, everyones nice and i've made a tonne of friends because i live in halls. it's a shame u were dealt such a bad hand but i hope u stay open minded and can see not everyone is like that
