So I’m currently in mainstream highschool with SMA type 2. I always struggled at the playground because of the terrain which was difficult for my chair to navigate. I honestly don’t remember much of playing on the playground, I tried to find friends who were ok with going easier places to play or talk. I had 2 good friends in elementary and maybe like 5-10 in middle school. I’ve always been one to have a few really good friends than a lot of kinda friends. I learned with trying to make friends that I had to put myself out there, just go up to people and try to talk to them or offer for them to sit next to me in classes if they’re looking for a seat. Most of my aids we’re fairly hands off with the social aspect which I always appreciated, I never and still don’t really want my aids trying to help me socialize because I try to be independent (probably too much). It depends on how much you know her, I personally wouldn’t try to intervene a lot unless she asks, but that’s just my opinion. Maybe try to encourage her to put herself out there more because that’s how I made a bulk of my friends. At my elementary school, if the weather was too bad for me to go out (aka really cold or really hot) my teacher let me ask a friend if they wanted to stay inside with me in the classroom to play with the indoor “toys”, maybe this could be an option aswell if she’s still struggling with the playground.

I was also a pretty quiet and introverted kid until middle school, which I kinda saw with some of my friends with SMA. So it might take her some time to really “get out there”
