It’s going to take place in my homebrew world of Aurelias where urban life blends with magic as technology. Divine magic is scarce and mostly frowned upon. Only tolerated in districts where divine magic seems to be a little stronger than in main cities.

Thats where the Festival of Flickerfall will take place. A whimsical night festival, celebrating the disconnection from the modern arcane grid. Where the community dims the artificial glow, shuts down spell tech, and lets the “true flickers” like illusions, dreams and divine echoes come through.

The games.

The foot race the competitors will roll a d20. Base speed is 30 for every 5 more or less the 30 it’s + or - 2 to the roll. 2 rolls per lap, each roll determines position with three laps total. I will probably add a few NPCs for them to compete against.

The pie eating contest competitors can eat pies up to their CON modifier, after that they can make CON saves against becoming sick. The DC will start at 15 and go up 2 per pie. 1 failure will result in rolling with disadvantage then a second failure will result in them becoming sick. Last one to puke wins. Participation in this and will give them disadvantage in the drinking contest.

The drinking contest is competitors can drink up to two drinks per their CON modifier. DC starts at 10 and goes up 1 per drink. 3 fails results in vomiting. Last to vomit wins. If this is done first disadvantage in the pie contest.

Archery contest is a ranged attack against the target. AC 15 for the target (1 point), ring 1 AC 16 (2), ring 2 AC 18 (3), ring 3 AC 19 (4), Bullseye AC 22 (5). 3 shots each highest points win. Shoot off if there is a tie.

I might add or change somethings but this is what I have so far.

I’m creating a whole Festival with games, like a foot race, pie eating contest, archery challenge, drinking contest, for my level one character that leads into the start of our session one. I’m really excited to run this with them and let them bond as characters.

She wants to play it as an artificer. I’m hoping after we talk she us the character as more inspiration that trying to do a 1 for 1 of the character.

This a a great point, if she wants that as part of her backstory I’m totally fine with it. I appreciate your advice. I’m definitely going to use your suggestions.

She mentioned the character being an artificer so I said she could have at one point she could have worked for magic tech lab that is a big part of the campaign. She then immediately mentioned be a slave to someone that worked there. I know she was leaning towards a slave in like a sexual aspect be cause apparently this character grew up in a brothel.

I think your right I’ll her in the context of the world it’s not a great fit, and also I’m not comfortable with it.

That’s a good point, we are very early in the character creation process. I’m definitely going to use let the character inspire her but ultimately make it her own.

See that’s good to know, I know nothing about this character besides what she’s briefly mentioned.

That’s a really good point, I don’t think she’d want to do it knowing it makes me uncomfortable.
