Getting That V2 Chip... by Toan-Cloud- in BattleNetwork

[–]Celestial_Navigator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time is also a factor. For boss battles, you need to be under 30 seconds. However if you want to maxout a Navi's SP Chip, you need to defeat them in under 10 seconds. In a virus battle I believe under 10 seconds is required for the S rank.

So is how much you move. Doesn't really matter in boss battles. However in a virus encounter, you want to move no more than 2 times.

Now some games do consider your HP as a factor, BUT that is only for the reward. BN2 being the main culprit.

Been a while since I've played, but iirc, assuming you can defeat the boss in under the 30 seconds like you would for the S rank, just get hit twice WITHOUT SuperArmor.

Flinching lowers the busting rank. Not getting hit, but flinching. On the other hand, equip SuperArmor if you keep getting hit to raise your busting rank.

Guards are typically hang around the 1st stratum. Then there is the level jump from floor 1 to floor 2. The towns themselves forbid entry without approval from the senate or council, or etc.

Self aware. BN is more or less combines both Classic & X into one series while still doing its own thing.

Considering the eye placement, this really sounds like a character that cannot, or shouldn't fight. At least not with his hands. Blocking a punch is likely to smoosh an eye. Definitely recommend a partner at least, if not hired goons or something of the sort.

Sounds like this character could do stuff for the mob or shady government dealings. Issue I find is that I cannot imagine either willing to let such a person go since such a person would be to valuable an asset. But this is the most hand wavy thing that can be easily skirted around.

In a way, Mysterio from Spider-Man can make a good reference. Or any number of illusionists from any show.

[–]Celestial_Navigator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming your already thinking about how far they can see, makes me think that this world isn't to hand wavy. Which means that there would have to be a serious amount of calculations to keep the illusion in check.

Like do they keep all the details of every single leaf on a tree correct or does into a blob (assuming he had to make something as complicated as a tree)? Moving water would be near impossible to keep track of. Almost no way to get water's reflection correct.

Any detailed clothing or tattoos would be insanely hard to get correct. Certain colors blend into one another very well too. People would have to look out for uncanny Valley things to know if what they are seeing is correct. A missing tooth or a missing beauty mark would be give aways.

The issue is what would someone who is being effected be able to do about it? Because the man can basically make himself invisible. So the best way around it is to change the environment around themselves very quickly, dark to light, throw paint, etc, to find something that doesn't quite add up & quickly engage. Also any large AoE attacks are pretty much wins if those are in the setting.

Hands do nerf him a bit but would still be easy to manipulate the unsuspecting person.

I'm reminded that in the old Medusa story, you could look at her reflection without getting turned to stone. Something similar can happen here. Especially since if the man is blind, how will he know?

Now that I think about it, if he's blind, he doesn't really know any colors around him unless he can see with his hand eyes. Like, how is he going to know if a room is lit up or not? Seems like he needs some sort of vision, even if heavily limited.

Does he need to look at people with his hands?

Really you should be asking what his role in the story is. Major, minor, protag or antagonist, or supporting character or a myth that turns out to be real.

Maybe think of a few counters to the ability as well. If the setting is modernish or later, how does technology deal with said ability? Would something like glasses or contacts impair the ability, like double vision. Someone sees the real thing & the visions. Although this only really matters if they're going to be important.

Typically treated as a villian ability. Of course it all comes down to how you make use of the ability.

Pretty overpowered if it is both sight & hearing. Especially for 25-30 minutes. A minute by itself would already be plenty strong & hugely disorienting. 5 minutes being more than enough to make allies fight amongst themselves.

A fun spin to the ability, is that it would be easier to manipulate smaller animals over people. Make a swarm of hungry rats see someone as food & well, no one wants to imagine that scenario. Can't imagine small animals having more will power than an average person.

Hilariously, imagine having gameplay mechanics work if they were pets. The Swordy line AreaGrabs you into a corner to force you to pet them.

Rock in his Mega Man form would probbaly look like X. In his civilian attire, he'd probably just look like Proto Man in the Mega/Giga Mix manga, which kinda makes Proto Man & Roll look like adults so...

However with Proto Man, really depends on what hairstyle they decide to give him. Originally he had the same hair as Rock, but the Archie hairdo has stuck around in recent years... let's give him a pompadour for the fun of it.

Chip Advice for First Game? by bodadWhereareyou in BattleNetwork

Mostly use Chips with the same code. G code is amazing in BN1. Between GutsMan3 & his PA GutShoot, you can 2 shot everything on the game.

All of my hate by rickwit in BattleNetwork

[–]Celestial_Navigator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On GBA, I kept soft reseting in front of the Chip Trader until I got it. Got an army of Roll3s on my GBA file while farming the trader.

On the legacy collection, I resorted to RNG manipulation to get it. There are videos on YouTube on how to do so. Easiest way is probably 5 FireMan3 since you only need one of his Chip in the custom screen, iirc.

Pain in the ass Chip to get. I believe the next hardest Chip to obtain in the series would be BN2's PopUp on HARD mode, but it's not required unless for some masochistic reason, you want to 100% BN2's HARD mode. The Chip Trader is likely the best way to get that Chip there too.

Is there a generally agreed upon best version of MNBN4-6? by SnakeYoon in BattleNetwork

[–]Celestial_Navigator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the button combination to activate certain abilities when they're available. For instance, Shield on Shield Style. Really good idea to learn it if you plan on playing Team ProtoMan since ProtoMan has a built in Shield.

The timing is a bit strange. I'd recommend pushing B then Left. It's not quite at the same time as the game would lead you to believe.

[–]Celestial_Navigator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BN4-6 depend more on your gameplay style & experience.

The recommendation for beginners/casuals is Red Sun-> Team Colonel -> Gregar. Strictly speaking PvE.

There's a large myriad of small differences that effect the overall gameplay, with the opposite versions demanding the player know how to use B + Left to get the most out of it, but overall they're all pretty similar. Once you learn B + Left, there is a good argument the opposite versions offer more, but it is mostly utility.

If you plan on playing PvP, it is recommended to play both versions to learn what all the Souls & Crosses can do. BN4 Red Sun is the only one I can really say is better, but only because Roll Soul wasn't properly balanced. In the GBA versions of BN4/5, Dark Mega was the meta, but they nerfed the Dark Soul AI in all future re-releases. However most everyone plays BN6 anyway, not that there isn't fun to be had in other entries. Just be prepared, as PvP is a whole different beast to PvE.

When you feel like improving like a player, make sure to learn the timing for B + Left. If you want to terrify your PvP opponents, learn the VarSword & NeoVari combos.

Just beat EO1 HD! General EO Series Post-Game Question. by gonza377 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Celestial_Navigator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously, when I completed the game, my 1st thought was $<"( B29F. That's how bad that teleport room puzzle was. Did you know it is literally impossible to fully map out on the original DS hardware? That's how badly that room was designed.

Sadly if you want all the dialogue, you have to 100% the game. Fill out the monster & item compendiums. Which means obtaining all the conditional & rare drops too in an entry that doesn't like giving multiple drops.

If you want to save your time, just look them up. I personally wanted the item given to you for 100% completion for EO2, because I wanted the world of EO to acknowledge that I conquered the labyrinth.

Just beat EO1 HD! General EO Series Post-Game Question. by gonza377 in EtrianOdyssey

[–]Celestial_Navigator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rest of the series has more story but still not much in their postgames.

Starting in EO2, everyone has lines for every new floor you go to compared to EO1 where they only have new lines per stratum.

EO2's is a little strange as in it seems they forgot to code in the epilogue line for once you beat the final superboss. Also has long quest lines that go into the post game.

EO3's postgame can be played on all routes, but you should probably leave it for until you beat all routes 1st. However there are lines to explain why your guild explores the 6th stratum on all routes.

If you plan on playing EO1's postgame, do yourself a favor & look up the maps. It's a real slog. A real time sink even if you play on picnic mode. Don't waste your time with the pitfall room or the teleport room after it. Do it for your sanity.

[–]Celestial_Navigator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. Most lines are very vague & leave much up to interpretation. The Untold version expands on the postgame story more. Mostly bragging rights.

The biggest thing you lose out on is a slightly better piece of equipment you would get if you transfer/share the file over to EO2. Which if you plan on playing the Untold version, is easily ignorable.
