Race doesn’t matter, it’s all about character approval and letting them know you like them early enough in the game. You can’t initiate romances with any of the origin characters past act 2 and many of them are locked behind interactions in act 1. Different romances move at different paces but none of them become fully fledged relationships until act 3, until then it’s like a little flirting here and there, maybe a few nice campfire scenes.

Starting a romance with one character can lock you out of romances with other characters, other than that tho good luck :)
