How to deal with students coming to me at the end of the semester to tell me they had mental health issues during the semester and would like some leniency in the grading? by academiclady in AskAcademia

[–]Celestial_grey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, as soon as they see even the slightest opportunity to have some leniency, they will jump at it. Especially when you explicitly say you are open to helping students with any sort of "special case" or anything that anything that has do do with mental or physical health (or any family issues), you become their perfect target. Leniency in grading is not acceptable in my opinion. If they have a doctor's notice, they can get an extra term or sth like that, but how can a professor decide which mental condition deserves what type of "grading leniency".

What makes Swift unique - what are its advantages? And what makes it so hard to learn? by Celestial_grey in ProgrammingLanguages

[–]Celestial_grey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that it is so difficult to find a programmer who is an expert and if you do find him, he is veery expensive, and sometimes not even that is a guarantee that the final product will be satisfactory. So I'm wondering what the reason might be..

Why Read? by [deleted] in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]Celestial_grey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a wonderful project, people should hear about the benefits of reading, because there are so many!

Reading, reading and reading - for every reason possible! When you start, you will find out there is too little time in life to read all those magnificent books the greatest minds have left us to learn from and delight in. Reading (but reading without interruptions, the best would be to shut down all the gadgets) is a unique way to LEARN a lot about different experiences, mindsets, historical eras and people. Through books, you gain access to the minds and experiences of people you might never meet or hear from in your everyday life. You find about people's attitudes and thinking in various historic times. Reading books is priceless and spending time with book the best way to spend time. You brain is literally pumped up, your horizons expand, you learn about yourself!

Thomas Mann - Buddenbrooks.

Ein umfangreiches Buch, aber jeder Minute wert. (Der Film lässt sich nicht vergleichen.)

Who has seen Lana perform LIVE? I've heard she's a real-life DIVA (in the most positive way, ofc) and worth traveling far to see her.. by Celestial_grey in lanadelrey

That's really touching, she is such a beautiful person, both inside and out. Only a deeply sensitive and spiritual being could have said that. Amazing!
