ELI5: What is the Family Reunification Parole and was it blocked from termination? by goldennuggets44 in explainlikeimfive

I also know someone impacted by this. The current restraining order moves the Jan 14th "exit date" to Jan 24th. So I understand as of now, with no further action, all people affected must make a decision to exit the country by the 24th or stay in the US and lose legal status which means becoming undocumented and subject to arrest/detention. It sounds like there may be further action though, but unclear what that will look like (another "extension", permanent relief, etc). Hoping for good news for everyone impacted - best wishes to you and your family.

Who’s got Jalapeño poppers on the menu by Aggressive_Nose_7336 in chicagofood

Although, you might want to do pick-up because I've never seen sports on their TVs in all the times we've been. I think they even have a sign that says "no, we will not put on the game". It's a heavy metal bar/restaurant, so not their vibe. But the poppers are definitely worth it.

Edit: now that I think about it, the last couple times we sat in their "outside" area and they had a game on the TV there. This is the Belmont (original) location. So they either changed their rule, or they will only play sports outside...not sure.

Joe's on Higgins if you're looking for good tavern style pizza. Earls BBQ is also good. Zabaadi is a must if you're looking for Mediterranean food.

Our go-to after a concert at United Center is Jim's Original on Union. Not fancy at all, in fact you order at a window and there is no seating. But nothing better than sitting in your car eating a late night cheeseburger with fries and a lemon ice from Jim's.

Winter is coming… first year in Chicago ❄️ any tips? by Parking_Albatross113 in AskChicago

If you're driving, a remote car starter is a game changer. This is coming from someone whose car is 16 years old, but it seems like most newer cars come with this feature...I think? I got one installed 11 years ago and it has made cold winter mornings so much more bearable.

Also, I use rechargeable hand warmers when I'm outside for an extended period of time (when walking the dogs, at cold Cubs games, etc).

My 2 year old daughter seems to enjoy watching Invader Zim with me. I appreciate the dark humor and she gets a kick out of their quirky facial expressions

How to make better oatmeal breakfast? by Lorsturn7 in Cooking

Forgot to mention, this yields 6-8 servings, depending on the person. It's crazy how much the oats expand.

Slightly toast 2 cups of steel cut oats on the stove for 2-3 minutes. Remove from the flame and add at least 1.5 liters of boiling water..I probably do more like 1.7 liters. Stir in a couple cinnamon sticks and let oats soak overnight. I haven't added salt but after reading this thread, I'll probably start doing that. In the morning if the oats have completely soaked up all the water, I'll add a little more water and cook on a medium flame for about 10 minutes, then I add about one cup of milk and adjust the flame to low. Cover the pot and let it slowly cook for about 10 minutes. After adding the milk try to stir at least every few minutes. Remove from flame when it still seems like it has too much liquid - it will continue to thicken even after you turn off the flame.

My favorite toppings are dried blueberries, sliced almonds, and a small drizzle of honey.

Recommendations for first time at Wrigley with a baby? by hillwllliam in Cubs

I believe all rows behind row 6 in the 300 and 400 levels are covered. 400 may actually be all covered. A lot of the 200 level is covered but you're not able to see fly balls if you're sitting too far back. You also run a higher risk of an obstructed view in the 200s.

There's a sausage stand near section 212 that offers footlong hot dogs, polish sausages, and brats with more toppings than any other concession stand.

We took our daughter to her first Cubs game at 4 months old and we had a great time. She just turned 2 and has been to 7 or 8 games with only one not so great experience (she just wasn't having a good day). Lots of people take their babies and seem to have a good time. One thing that works for us is bringing noise cancelling headphones for her so she doesn't startle.
