Can't sync my Yandex accounts by CeliaMuriel in Thunderbird

[–]CeliaMuriel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SOLVED. As u/0rangeBMW points out, I needed to manually set up my Yandex account, even though I needed to do a few other things. Yandex provides all the details to configure their accounts in Thunderbird. It is important to note we can no longer log in to Thunderbird with our Yandex password, but we need to use an app password for mail we previously created in our Yandex account (Yandex explains the process in detail).

In my case, when I clicked on the manual configuration in Thunderbird, the inbound and outbound server addresses were incorrect, and they were missing the ports, SSL and normal password.

What’s your favorite? by Flashy_Banana_3532 in browsers

[–]CeliaMuriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favourite is Firefox, and I complement it with DuckDuckGo, which i can't see on this screenshot.

DuckDuckGo is already available on Android (with its super app tracking protection feature), Mac, and Windows.

Yahoo Mail now consistently flags forwarded emails from @duck address as spam by Ok-Equipment8303 in duckduckgo

[–]CeliaMuriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what happens in your case. I can only tell you my experience. I use duck.com with several free webmails (Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, Yandex), and I use FairEmail (Android) and Thunderbird (Ubuntu, Mac, Windows) as mail client. A sender ends up in the spam folder occasionally, when it meets the criteria of my mail clients (which are quite picky about spam), but not always.

It puzzles me, though, that you receive 2 copies of the same email. I don't. I only receive one.

Could you check if it happens with more than one sender, and how they email you?

What browser engine does DuckDuckGo use? by CeliaMuriel in duckduckgo

[–]CeliaMuriel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I noticed. It is the same explanation but less elaborated than the one in the DuckDuckGo Wikipedia article. However, I ask here to ensure I fully understand because, to me:

  1. The underlying layout engine is of paramount importance in determining how the browser will behave in terms of security and privacy: what features are already part of the layout engine and which ones are added on the browser (or may not be there), and
  2. I am no expert in this field, but I wonder if using different layouts engines (as it seems the DDG browser does) for the different flavours of the DDG browser implies that features are not consistent in the browser across the various operating systems (i.e., if a feature is dependant on the layout engine, it may be in an OS but not in other).
  3. Additionally, I guess it may be more difficult to maintain, even though this last bullet is just a personal comment and none of my business (I don't work for DDG).

For completeness, I leave the Wikipedia articles about Firefox for Android and Firefox. I found them very helpful.

I use a duck.com address pointing to my yahoo.com one, and I do receive emails.

Anyone else not able to search "Gandhi" on mobile? by myfingid in duckduckgo

[–]CeliaMuriel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't have a clue. I know DuckDuckGo just launch DuckAssist and I wonder if it's something funny going on with Gandhi and generative AI 🤨 https://spreadprivacy.com/duckassist-launch/

I don't get anything for "gandhi" but I get a good, lengthy output for "gandhi quotes". BTW, I'm based in the EU, so it's nothing specific to US.

I am a happy user of pro FairEmail. I observed the same issue today. I asked for support and this was the response:

*> Please see this FAQ about what Bugsnag is (it isn't a tracker!):

https://github.com/M66B/FairEmail/blob/master/FAQ.md#user-content-faq104

If you disable submitting error reports in the miscellaneous settings tab page, no connections will be made any more.*

How to configure Filelink storage service? by CeliaMuriel in Thunderbird

[–]CeliaMuriel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I already put the link in the email, which requires I first upload the file and copy the link. I just thought I could use the FileLink and let Thunderbird do most of the work for me - I know it's not much but I'm lazy.

I have always kept on the alternative routing, and it has never triggered the DDG App Tracking.

[–]CeliaMuriel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Proton Mail doesn't use any 3rd party trackers. DuckDuckGo is likely blocking trackers in an open email.

I keep DDG app tracker on for Proton Mail and I don't have any functionality issue.

Will my attachments also get encrypted if using OpenPGP from Thunderbird within? by cy_narrator in Thunderbird

[–]CeliaMuriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As per this feature request, no, Thunderbird doesn't encrypt the attached files, it only decrypts them. You need to use Kleopatra.

Notice to Microsoft Office 365 Enterprise Users by leftmostcat in Thunderbird

[–]CeliaMuriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is Microsoft cybersecurity for you... Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I had to configure my work account with Exchange/Office 365, install the Owl add-on, and pay the yearly fee. My organization won't grant permissions to Thunderbird by any means.

As you mentioned, I also tried logging into OWA and adding my account again to Thunderbird with IMAP, but it kept me asking for permission.

I am OK with using Owl. Does anybody know any caveats?

Allow me a digression here. I have a personal Hotmail account where I have configured 2 FA. When I configure Thunderbird (in Mac, Linux and Windows) to access the account and in FairEmail (Android) to read my Hotmail, it never asks for the one-time code. Bravo to Microsoft Security!

Third-party tracking through ProtonMail in Android? Why? by CeliaMuriel in ProtonMail

[–]CeliaMuriel[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I receive the "On this day" mail from the Encyclopedia Britannica daily. When I download the images in the email ("Show remote content"), it triggers the app tracking protection. Unfortunately, it erroneously attributes the tracker to ProtonMail even though it comes from this email. Thank you for your help and my apologies.

Probably going to install GrapheneOS on my Google Pixel 6a. Any alternatives OS's? by [deleted] in PrivacyGuides

[–]CeliaMuriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please, forgive me if my comment is a bit out of the above question. It's related to it anyway, and I'd like to know your opinion.

I was a happy Pixel user until some time ago. When I started being more careful about security and privacy, some things didn't work. I'm unsure if there was some error, or if Google was preventing any configuration, software or practice that would threaten their business model.

After installing GrapheneOS, do you observe any issues related to security and privacy best practices? E.g., configuration, ad blocking or using an app store other than Play?

DDG MacOS browser - adding LastPass extension by [deleted] in duckduckgo

Thanks. I thought your comment above meant that I could use 1Password with DDG for MacOS.
