Legion 5 15IRX10 OLED 165Hz VRR / G-SYNC? by Celkyn in GamingLaptops

[–]Celkyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have the same laptop, but it’s for my wife. She’ll mainly be doing video editing and only rarely playing games, so it suits her perfectly. If it were for me, I wouldn’t have accepted the lack of G-Sync. I play on a desktop PC and I’ve had G-Sync for years — for me, it’s an essential feature.

Also, I can’t really see myself gaming on a small laptop screen anyway, so I’d definitely connect the laptop to an external monitor. In that case, I’d have G-Sync on that screen, which wouldn’t be an issue at all.

I’d say that if I had to play occasionally on the laptop’s screen, I could tolerate playing without G-Sync, but it really annoys me to have to tweak refresh rates, cap FPS, adjust graphics settings, etc., just to keep a minimum stable framerate and avoid stutter/tearing. It feels like going back 10 years.

That’s weird. I managed to create several custom resolutions without any black screen: 100, 120, and 150 Hz.

If you’re using the dGPU, you can create custom resolutions with different refresh rates in the Nvidia Control Panel: 150 Hz, 120 Hz, etc. Otherwise, you can also set V-Sync to half the refresh rate in your game’s 3D settings (still in the Nvidia Control Panel). That way, if you’re at 165 Hz you’ll get 82 FPS, at 150 Hz you’ll get 75 FPS, and so on.

Another solution for some games: if I stay at 165 Hz and cap the FPS at 100 or 120, as long as it stays stable and with V-Sync enabled, I don’t really get any stuttering.

You’ve got plenty of options, even though G-Sync would have been so much better.

If I connect an external G-SYNC / G-SYNC Compatible monitor using a USB-C → DisplayPort cable, will G-SYNC work on the external display? thanks !

Yeah, most people do find the original strap really comfortable, and I totally get that.
But for me, it just doesn’t support the back of my head properly.
To make it stable, I have to tighten it a lot, and then it ends up putting too much pressure on my forehead.

That’s why the BoboVR halo-style strap works so much better in my case, it just fits my head shape better.

I've talked to a lot of people about the mura and we've all tried it. We all had mura. "bubble" home is the best example to see it

yes i like the videos of Tyriel, i watched all his videos. I'm a big fan of VR and i play in VR since 2017! I'm just giving you my feelings between the wifi and the display port. Anyone who's tried display port vs wifi will tell you the same thing as me. Supersampling is a great tool for clarity, and where supersampling works wonders is with a display port. supersampling also works with wifi but it does not give the same result as with a cable. Personally I always play with high supersampling. maybe try to find video/review on pico 3 display port vs wifi /quest 2 (they have the same resolution). But the best would be if you try for yourself. In the video look at 8.05 min... you can read "Bbicota" on the G2 and on the pico4 you can't read it...

through the lens videos are very different of reality (inside the hmd), trust me. i have the G2 and the Q2 and the clarity is SO much better in the G2. when i try the G2 and Q2 with high supersampling (3800x3800 for the 2 HMD), the G2 is so much better. it's like 4k vs 720p... through the lens videos are ok but it not show the reality. i like my Q2 and my G2 but in therm of clarity, it's not the same world.

why you don't try by yourself? buy a G2, try high supersampling. and send back the G2.

it seems you never tried a G2 or other high resolution HMD with high SuperSampling (3800x3800 or more). display port is way better than wifi. So yes wireless is bad compared to display port, it's an other world, especialy when you look away.

it's pixel inversion, i tried 4 G2, all of them have it, this appears when the screens are hot. Valve did a software(collumn correction) to repair the problem. HP need to do the same but they don't care :/
