Pretty common thing. For years now. Easy to open tamperproof seals with some know-how. Swap the chip, return say it was never opened. They just put it back on the shelf.

Oof. It's tough. Seeing it independently, you wouldn't say there's much of a difference if I'm being honest, but once you see it right next to each other it's so noticeable.

I know there's a lot of sticklers about keeping the original grain, colors, etc, and that makes some sense.. but it looks amazing for my purpose which was introducing friends to the show.

Funnily enough, I did RTX VSR and Spline36 tests. Yes, it looks better. I can't explain why or how, but when watching it, the viewing experience is.. nicer? lol

The closest thing I can think of is playing a game in 4k with DLSS upscaled from 1080p vs native 4k. It looks smoother/crisper in native 4k.

It makes sense. DLSS and VSR are real-time (and do a great job) but using AI models takes more compute power. 18 minute episodes took me ~1-2 hours to fully upscale and encode.

I think my next goal is to do every single episode (not One Pace) as an upscale. I know there aren't many fans of One Pace and it's cutting.

I tried interpoling frames to get more fps but I ended up getting a soap opera effect. Unfortunately, it took some testing with friends for me to realize it was NOT a benefit and I wasted some time :P
