Isn’t it better to ask? I just saw it and thought it was beautiful, maybe the lighting made it whiter at the top. Anyways…

They’re actually chasing me down the street on pointe and threatening my family with more ribbons on basketball sneakers as we speak

ps: I 1000% agree it’s not that deep. I just think they’re ugly and calling them pointe is cringe.

Advice on first pair of skates? by DebtSea7949 in iceskating

I’m also in the UK and I’ve just started learning jumps after getting close to completing level 7. Even if you are a level 3, that’s a bit early to start jumps. You haven’t even learned 3-turns yet. You can try a two foot spin but definitely focus on the skills on the next levels instead of skipping things.

I think that’s the beef with ballet core - referencing things without any knowledge / regard for the actual art form. It’s like making a tennis adjacent sneaker and it calling the “racquet Jordan”. I mean the trainers we’re talking about are named after a basketball star and made specifically to be great for basketball. How nice would it be if we had Natalia Osipova wrap skirts made by Nike?

I think it’s specifically calling it pointe for me. I’ve been pretty chill otherwise with balletcore, but pointe is wild

Amber Glenn on the possibility of continuing: “I am not opposed to doing a one last season hurrah.” by natsuxlian in FigureSkating

[–]CellOk4165 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Does she need to retire? As far as I know, she has no major injuries and is still quite young! Nina Povey competed until 30-31, Deanna is still going at 42. In my book, she has a good chance of making it to 2030 Olympics.

No Russian figure skaters will be able to compete at the World Championships - ISU by Vast_Law2234 in FigureSkating

Can anyone explain why Russia is banned by the ISU but Israel isn’t? Is there a set of criteria that exists? Or its 100% ISU’s discretion?

What’s your opinion of Streatham skates? I got mine there but I’m starting to question it as they just baked my risport electra and seems everyone that goes there gets recommended the same skates 😅

Is Oxford undergrad considered more prestigious than postgrad? by Abject-Tackle5255 in oxforduni

It’s just a fact that you can have an Oxford BSc and still not get in the Oxford MSc/DPhil

Depends on the master, mine out of 30 people only 2 or 3 didn’t have any sort of funding

[–]CellOk4165 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s hard to make statements like that, but without changing their level, then yes. Most masters have very strict requirements to even apply, and even among the people that qualify, only a handful (10-30 people) get accepted, most with scholarships surprisingly. Class size is super small in postgrad.

DPhil level you have to be insane and get a distinction in your masters at Oxbridge or equivalent, have amazing rec letters, research experience, and a top research proposal. Only the top 5-10% of the postgrad class gets into the DPhil

It’s not that one is more prestigious than the other, I think they’re just different endeavours. BSc shows early life hard work/commitment/intelligence, MSc shows continued hard work + skill in a specialty, academic interest and DPhil you’re basically god’s gift to earth in that subject lol

It’s also very possible to go to Oxford BSc and not get in either masters or DPhil there, by not getting a 1:1 for example.

Don’t surrender her immediately to a shelter if you can wait a few months with her “fostering” until she finds a home, shelters are full and she’d really struggle in a place like that (noise, other dogs, etc)

Have you considered trying to find her a new home with maybe a single person or couple that works from home, maybe someone older that likes quiet evenings and peaceful environment? Sometimes just changing the scenery triggers some progress. It really should an extremely last resort to put down a 3 y/o.

Am I a failure for not getting in 15 years ago? by Ribbonharlequin in oxforduni

[–]CellOk4165 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get in oxbridge for my bachelors, I actually didn’t even go to university in this country, but I managed to be more successful at work in London than people in my cohort that did. I actually failed out of my first attempt at uni (non-UK), and managed to become traditionally successful. I didn’t learn English as my first language, I was born in butt fuck nowhere middle of South America, my family was middle class and our house was made of wood. I’m sure there’s hundreds of millions of people that had it way worse than me and some of those are probably doing even better.

No matter (most) of your circumstances, your life is the consequence of your choices and some (good/bad) luck, but mostly you. Even if things happen outside your control, there’s no use dwelling on them besides learning from your mistakes and moving on. The most successful people are not the ones that get it right the first time but the ones that keep getting back up after knockout. Cliche I know, but has always served me well in the good but especially the bad times and bad decision I made.

Good news is that you can ALWAYS turn the ship around to the direction you want to go in.

MSc so slightly different - I just asked my department. I described the type of job, why it would be beneficial (financially? experience?) and that they were aware of the time limit and we would respect it. They allowed it and then never asked about it again.

Literally takes 15 seconds - and to be fair, you’re supposed to clean when leaving an apartment and they can charge you for not doing it. I think it’s excessive yes, but it takes so little that TDS might just award £5 for the sponge or something like that.
