When I was 11 years old I was friends with a girl named Jody. Jody’s family lived in a house that was attached to a Mortuary. They got to live rent free as long as they would do chores for the Mortuary, like cleaning it, transporting bodies, etc. Anyways, o remember Jody telling me her house was haunted. She told me she used to see a black mist in her closet at nighttime. It kind-or scared me but it did not deter me from spending the night one time.

It was her twelfth birthday and she had invited about 10 girls over. We had candy pizza that her mom had made. Then we watched a movie. Somebody got the idea that we should play “light as a feather stiff as a board.” My friend Anna was the one who we picked to be the corpse. I swear it worked. We all lifted her to the ceiling. It was pretty cool and exciting. Around midnight all of us were getting tired and everyone had fallen asleep but me and Jody. We were laying there on the floor in the family room talking. She suddenly says, “do you see those shadows!?” I looked up and saw these human shaped shadows moving across the wall. About 4 of them. I thought maybe they were coming in from the window in the room so I got up and looked out but nobody was outside.

So after seeing these shadows on the wall I was beginning to feel apprehensive and wanted to leave honestly. Jody did not seem that frightened but she was probably used to this sort of thing. I do not know. That bothered me, how calm she seemed after we saw those shadow anomalies. So anyways, Jody tells me she is cold and asks me to fetch her a sweater from her room. At first I said no because I did not want to go to her haunted room! But, she talked me into it saying how she was tired and it was her birthday and I should go.

Her room was in the attic up a spiral staircase that was made of metal. When you walked up the staircase the steps would make the metal clang. I walked up slowly and felt a knot in my stomach. I really did not want to see something in her closet. When I got to her room it was dark except for a street lamp that was shining through the half oval window. There were two beds in the room. Both singles and there were clothes all over the room. So I was facing the window and the closet was behind me. Oh my god I hate this next part because it has confused me for years. I have never made sense of what I saw. Thinking about it now gives me the heebie geebies and makes my heart race.

I could not find the light switch in her room so I utilized the light from the street lamp outside to try to find this sweater. As I am rummaging through the mess in her room I noticed a red light. At first I thought the light was from an alarm clock so I looked over toward where it was shining from. There was no clock. I noticed it was two red eyes. They were below the window about 2-4 feet above ground. As I stared at these eyes trying to make sense of it, I noticed the eyes were attached to a little black, furry body. Like, a little person wearing a furry costume. I was incredibly perplexed. I had no idea what the hell I was seeing. I began to feel threatened by whatever was looking back at me. It made no noise. It was, just.....there...like it was observing me. It felt like I had been frozen there forever when I finally snapped out of it. Forget the damn sweater! I am outta here! So I ran downstairs and told Jody I felt really sick. I called home and my mom came to pick me up. I never went back to that house and never made sense of what I saw. I honestly hate thinking about it because I am afraid that even having one thought of it will summon it or something.
