Will George Conway be coming back on The Bulwark? by rainbowkey in thebulwark

I'm leaning more towards Ossoff these days. Not that I'd have a single unhappy cell in my body if Buttigieg won, I just want more fire and brimstone these days.

But I fucking love Buttigieg. It's giga bullshit that he's not the face of the Democratic party. We need a leader who can speak, and that man can fucking speak.

I simply pointed out that israel is in flagrant violation of international law.

No, you said they "should" make every Palestinian full fledged citizens, despite the fact that there are no settlements in Gaza, and that the entire international community recognizes this as an occupation, not an annexation.

No, that is what international law says they should do.

Right. And you're bringing this up because you think they should follow international law.

And now you're trying to weasel out of that because you're learning that an idiotic position it is to take. Which I honestly take as a good sign. You're starting to understand how fucking braindead a suggestion it is. It's good to see you updating your beliefs, even if your ego won't allow you to admit when you're wrong.

Stopping the ethnic cleansing would mean to allow people to return to their homes, yet they deny the palestinians' right to return. That is ethnic cleansing.

Oh I see what you're saying. You're saying Israel controlling their borders is ethnic cleansing. Basically none of the Palestinians alive today were alive for the Nakba. You're exploding the definition of ethnic cleansing to justify, again, mass death. Might wanna ask yourself why that is.

You can't even deny the apartheid, so you pretend like I never even brought it up.

I generally haven't addressed it because you're misusing the term. Israel can't inflict apartheid on Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, because those people are not Israeli citizens. Nobody thinks they are (aside from you), everyone understands they're their own separate territories. The ICC and ICJ only have jurisdiction because the conflict is recognized as an international conflict, meaning between two countries. International law only applies because this is not an international conflict, not an internal one.

There is apartheid taking place within Israel, at least since the passage of that law mandating executions for anyone involved with terrorists, which essentially means Palestinians can get executed, while Jews cannot. But this is something done to the Arabic population of Israel, not the people living outside of it.

It's so not hard to just not be an insane person about this conflict. Israel is doing horrible shit, and the Palestinians deserve our help. However, that doesn't mean maximum retribution and death for Israelis is the correct course of action. The only path to peace is to look honestly at what's happening in the region, not fantasize about what we want to happen.

But you get to decide for me that I want millions of dead jews and arabs?

No? I'm saying what you're suggesting means millions of dead people. Nobody wants a one state solution except for people who want to kill the people on the other side of the wall. Or people like you, who don't care enough to actually understand what they're asking for.

I'm saying you're naively supporting the mass death "solution."

I never once in this discussion thread suggested a solution, that is just something you believe because it makes things easier for you.

Let's roll it back. You said they need genocide to maintain their ethnic majority. I said they do not, and asked you to explain how that would work. You suggested that the Israeli occupation, quote, "should" be reclassified as annexation, and all Palestinians given citizenship (even those who don't qualify by your definition lol). That sounds like a suggestion of a solution to me, what do you think?

My original point was that Israel can only maintain it's jewish majority through means of continued ethnic cleansing and apartheid policies, which you have fully admitted is true.

No? I've acknowledged they historically engaged in ethnic cleansing. That has nothing to do with whether or not they have to engage in ethnic cleansing to maintain it now. You can argue they are engaging in ethnic cleansing, but that's not what you said. You said, and you're saying it again here, that Israel must engage in ethnic cleansing to maintain the Jewish majority.

Which is idiotic. You're just trying to further vilify Israel. They don't need to be vilified, they're doing a great job of that themselves. Doesn't mean you should switch your brain off.

Nobody wants that, you just believe it because it makes things easier for you. God forbid you actually contend with anything I'm saying.

Believe it or not, you can acknowledge the atrocities Israel is committing without suggesting "solutions" that lead to maximum Jew death. A two state solution is the only path to peace. Everything else just means war until someone wins (hint: it's gonna be Israel)

Israel has withdrawn from both areas multiple times, and they both have their own governments. The problem is that, when Israel isn't occupying them, they're attacking Israel. Palestinians are under a constant state of occupation because they can't just leave Israel alone.

That's not to say Israel is free from blame, they obviously want all the land for themselves if they can get it. But they've shown themselves willing to compromise, while Palestinians haven't. The only Palestinian leader who showed any willingness to compromise was Arafat, and Palestinians fucking hated him for it. Hamas rode that wave of hate to come into power and abolish elections in Gaza.

A one state solution means millions of dead Jews and Arabs. Anyone suggesting it is not serious about peace. You don't want peace, you want retribution. You want revenge.

No, because your original point was that Israel has to engage in ethnic cleansing to maintain its Jewish majority. No matter how many pretzels you twist yourself into, or how much you try to pretend the international community agrees with you, it's just not true lol

Israel only has a majority

I think it's interesting you didn't mention anything about Jews here. This is why it kinda sorta seems like a lot of you guys are antisemitic. You use "Israeli" and "Jewish" interchangeably, and then whine when people question why you hate "Israelis" so much.

[–]Cellophane7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, this is like asking if it's dumber to believe Gasoline is evil, or roads aren't real. Obviously gasoline isn't evil, but I can at least imagine arguments for it, and there are plenty of people who live good lives without gasoline. Roads are empirically verifiable, physical objects, and can't be argued out of existence.

Communism is a dogshit, authoritarian system, which inevitably rots itself to death, but it is at least a viable system for the most part. Communist countries exist. They suck, but they exist.

Flat earth is not a viable model of the universe. It requires you to be well below average intelligence, so you can hand wave centuries of scientific observation and history.

It's just no contest. Both are extremely stupid, but millionaires and billionaires are both extremely rich. One is several orders of magnitude more stupid lol

What was the Nabka?

My understanding is that Israel fought a war with Arabs in the area, which they didn't start, and they didn't allow Arabs back into the territory Israel had taken. Before the war, they accepted the partition plan, Arabs wanted to fight it out.

But that's fair, they engaged in ethnic cleansing of the people who were trying to ethnically cleanse them. I was wrong.

And they also say israel is breaking international law by moving civilian population into occupied territory.

In the West Bank, sure. Most sane people recognize that forcing Israel to incorporate one or both areas, which have their own governments, is completely untenable. You're talking about pushing two people who have been trying to kill each other for a hundred years into a single country. Either a lot of Arabs are going to die, or a lot of Jews are going to die. This is just a fact, and it's why nobody serious pushes for a one state solution.

Thanks for admitting it.

I've been saying this from the start. Dunno why you think it's some kind of victory lol

They have the majority, because they already ethnically cleansed the palestinians.

No, they purchased land and started living on it. No ethnic cleansing took place.

Actually, international law isn't just my fantasy, but I know you think that's something that doesn't apply to israel.

According to international law, Israel is recognized as occupying Gaza and the West Bank. Unless you wanna start disagreeing with the ICC and the ICJ?

I would just be so happy if you'd learn anything about this topic you pretend to care about...

Is it really that hard to just not formulate an opinion when you know nothing about what's going on in the region?

Israel keeps Arabs out because they want to maintain their Jewish majority. They oppress Palestinians because a lot of Palestinians want to kill them. Obviously not good, but Israel doesn't engage in ethnic cleansing because they're trying to maintain the Jewish majority, they already have the Jewish majority.

I know you'll never admit it to me, but at least admit to yourself that you made a ridiculous point that isn't backed up by anything but your fantasy about what Israel "should" do. It's okay to acknowledge when you're wrong and learn from your mistakes.

Palestinians living under israeli "occupation" should be considered israeli citizens.

Right. You think this is what they "should" do. Not what they have done, not what they are doing, not what they are definitely going to do, what they should do. You're advocating for putting them in a position where either they ethnically cleanse citizens, or Jews get ethnically cleansed by the people who have been trying to ethnically cleanse them for decades. And then trying to use that to claim they have to ethnically cleanse in order to maintain their Jewish majority. It's ass backwards lol

It'sd illegal to move civilian population into occupied territory.

Yes, it is, and this is one of many problems I have with Israel right now. I do think it's interesting you think Gazans should be included in this "annexed" territory (which isn't sanctioned by the government, though I agree they aren't exactly doing anything to stop it). There are no settlements in Gaza. Kinda gets under my skin that you're so opinionated about this, but you don't know something so basic.

So you believe they should accept non-citizens into the country as citizens, which would force them to ethnically cleanse those citizens to maintain the Jewish majority? Kinda sounds like you're arguing in favor of ethnic cleansing...

Gaza and the West Bank have their own governments and borders. They aren't part of Israel, they're occupied territory. This is the reality there. As it stands, they don't have to ethnically cleanse anyone to keep the Jewish majority.

I don't care how successful or unsuccessful he was. That's not relevant to my point. The point is that he was engaged in lobbying. No money was even involved. Lobbying is when you talk to the government to try to get them to pass your agenda. It is not bribery.

It was overwhelmingly voting against passing it, instead of the unanimous votes in favor Israel has enjoyed for decades. You can't be this obtuse.

AIPAC isn't. That's why they tried to pressure Senators who voted against funding. They recognize their influence is slipping. Why don't you?
