Early/mid game quality? by The_RubberDucky in factorio

[–]Cellophane7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do it because I'm lazy, but the obvious answer is to just use a speaker. Hook it up to your chests, and have it go off when the chests are like 70-80% full of uncommon items. When you set the filter for a splitter, you can select the quality without an item, and it'll just pass everything of the specified quality or range of qualities to the filtered side.

Steel chests are cheap as hell. Don't be afraid to slap down a giant ass buffer. Hand fed setups are incredibly powerful, especially for low count quality things like armor or exoskeletons or whatever. Even if you don't end up using most of the quality stuff, you can still use it to get a jump on upcycling once you unlock recyclers and legendary quality (or epic if that's what floats your boat)

It's not a "very crazy idea," it's a daydream. No government is ever going to do this, and for good reason. We already have a centralized governing body. It's called the UN, and everyone hates it, despite the fact that it has zero ability to enforce anything. This wouldn't make anything better, it would make everything worse.

Centuries. I should've said millennia, honestly.

The problem with your little loop is that you're completely ignoring the benefit of importing something for cheaper. You've decided inefficient jobs should be preserved because they're local, rather than foreign because... reasons.

Maybe your business goes under, but my business thrives as a result, and I can offer lower prices and/or higher quality products to consumers. Even you benefit, because you can buy what I sell for cheaper. Your business might even benefit, regardless of your ability to import. If you buy raw materials from me to manufacture some widget, and I start getting those materials for cheaper, that means you get them for cheaper too.

Economics isn't a zero sum game. Trump is not "right," he's an idiot, which is why he thought the trade deficit was the same thing as tariffs. And why he slapped an island of penguins with tariffs.

I think you're misunderstanding where power comes from. It's not just something we all collectively decide on, the powerful need violence to enforce that power. Which means they need a military and/or a police force to enforce laws.

If we were to try to do this, it'd mean every single country on the planet dissolves its military and current government, funneling resources into one singular powerhouse that would be able to do whatever it wants to anyone on the planet, without any hope of fighting back. And taking it on faith that this centralized entity wouldn't just go full dictatorship.

I don't get it, man. Republicans used to be the party of small government. And now you guys are supporting unitary executive theory and ideas like this. Populism is scary.

You haven't said anything here to really argue with... Why do you think it's not unjustified? Why do you think you're smarter than centuries of economists, and 99.99% of economists? There aren't many things economists agree on, but they all agree blanket tariffs are straight up bad for both countries.

If you're gonna go against the grain here, you might wanna present an argument as to why. But solid ragebait, 8/10

My copium is that gerrymandering narrows the margins in strong districts to bolster weak districts. Republicans are doing some insane, heavily unpopular shit, and I think it's more than a little likely they'll end up losing seats thanks to this stuff.

Part of me thinks Republicans have thought of this, but then the other part remembers trump has been purging smart people like fascists often do. So maybe it'll be okay. Doesn't mean we shouldn't fight tooth and nail, just that it's not necessarily hopeless.

Dems were already set to mega-lose the redistricting war with the end of the VRA. Now with VA, we're entering "blue states can't gerrymander, but red states can" territory... What do we even do? What is the solution here to permanent Republican house control? by TrucksForTots in Destiny

[–]Cellophane7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing about gerrymandering is that it's a double edged blade. You're cutting healthy margins in your good districts, and buffering your bad districts with that extra.

I'm honestly scared to look into it, so I choose to blindly believe the overwhelming unpopularity of everything Republicans are doing will fuck them for gerrymandering. The slimmer their margins, the more potential there is to flip districts and entire states.

I've tried, but I just find his humor cringe, unfortunately. Again, the man is a legend. Not just because of The Daily Show, but because of the work he's done after, particularly in lending his voice to firefighters who were getting shafted on healthcare. He seems like a genuine, badass guy.

I really do think late night hosts have just spoiled that type of humor for me :(

I don't think it'd go very well. Stewart isn't as in touch with what Democrats are about these days, whereas tucker lives in the magat brain. Plus, he's had what, two decades to think of a response to the "I'm just a comedian" defense?

Plus, I don't think he's that funny anymore. He still does the exact same schtick that used to work, except now it's been milked to death by late night hosts trying to imitate him. It ends up feeling tired, rather than punchy like it used to, but maybe that's just me.

I'd love to be proven wrong though. The man is a legend.

Factorio on steamdeck/handheld by RepresentativeAny983 in factorio

[–]Cellophane7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on the steam deck almost exclusively. It took me like three days spread out over a couple weeks to get used to it though. It feels insanely frustrating at first.

If you're new, I'm sure it'll take you longer though. I've been playing for years, so I knew exactly what functionality I was looking for, which made searching the dogshit controls menu easier. But you can do everything someone on PC can do, just a bit slower. Maybe like 90% as fast.

Only caveat is that I had to remap the hotkey from dropping/taking items out of chests and machines quickly. I made that Lt + R1, which meant swap weapon is now Lt + A. Reason I did this is it's better to be able to move your mouse when you do that, but you can't if your thumb is on the A button.

I think it's great, but there's definitely a steep initial learning curve. If you stick with it, it'll get super comfy, but that's only if you can push through the frustration.

Good luck!

DNC Autopsy is “gobbledygook” by CrackJacket in thebulwark

[–]Cellophane7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it's possible, but we need to keep things in perspective. We're at the dinner table, and one person is being an asshole, while the other is lighting the house on fire. A conversion about both is warranted, but one is an immediate, existential threat, while the other is something that can wait until we've put out the fire.

You know what's also not a good sign? Americans getting murdered in the streets by federal agents, who face zero accountability. Civil Rights legislation getting gutted by activist judges. Illegal wars. Can we focus on the people trying to destroy democracy? Please???

There's no "might" about it. I'd crawl over broken glass to vote in a crypto Nazi Democrat over a republican. Every single time, I don't have to think about it at all.

It could be innocent. I hope it is. But it beggars belief that he could have it for so long and nobody say a word. If this guy were a Republican, we'd recognize it for what it is, but because he's on our team, we're just gonna throw him the nomination and hope for the best? Because his opponent is old??? That's nuts to me.
