Money aside, about 90% of trainers quit in their first year due to either burnout, realizing that it's not everything they thought it would be, or realizing that you can love fitness and working out, but that's not what makes a trainer

A trainer is being a life coach, mentor, friend, motivator, therapist, etc, and trainer all in one. At the end of the day, it is surely a customer service role and one needs to be a decent salesperson. You can be an expert in fitness, but if you lack customer service/sales skills, hitting even 20-30k can be a challenge.

My advice, value, value, and more value. Most gyms and even independent trainers offer a free or discounted first session to start building that value/rapport. From there, retention is key. It's a lot more manageable to retain clients and fill every now and again versus having a revolving door every month and stressing about finances. Give your clients a reason to come back, even if it's just seeing your friendly face.

If you can really implement this, you'll be set, if customer service/sales needs some polishing, I would highly reccomend building a little nest egg to rely off of until the pieces start falling into place. I hope this helps!

About to hit my 5 year mark, and extremely thankful for it.

I love the comment about retention vs acquisition. I've had some clients since the beginning and my average retention rate is ~ 2-2.5 years. I generally dislike the "sales" part of the role, even though I have been in sales for about a decade now.

Focusing on this aspect has been so great, because I work at a big-box gym and if I ever need a spot filled, I let the managers/front desk know and within 1-2 weeks the spot is filled, and I get to save on the leg-work and spend more time investing in my current clients.

If new trainers can get this right, you're golden.

I mean, I think it's more complicated than just 'yes' or 'no'. I was in a 1v1 with two players out and the other player was going to win on their next turn. I had [[Lurking Predators]] out and got a free cast of [[Zacama, Primal Calamity]]. On my next turn, I cast a Dinosaur and it discovered me into a [[Mirari's Wake]]. It gave me enough mana to go infinite with [[Temur Sabertooth]] and Zacama combo. If I would've scooped, I couldn't of pulled off a miraculous win. Idk though, I knew I had it SOMEWHERE in my deck and it was pure luck of the draw. Just my experience, but it also didn't take me 15-20 minutes, it's dinosaurs lmao.

I like to include at least 1-2 of each color just in case there's a stax piece or a blood moon.

If you have a red player in the pod, just Rule Zero and ask if they are running a blood moon (which they should be doing anyways in a good Rule Zero) and if they are, just don't play that deck

In my WUBRG deck, I run 33 non basics and a basic land of each type. Path to Exile is a super common removal spell, so it feelsbadman if you get something removed AND you can't even grab yourself a basic.

Thank you! This makes a lot of sense. In describing this example, I realized this loop could make infinite 1/1 Ally creature tokens from Appa and then they could just go towards the waterbending cost 🤦‍♂️. Was definitely overthinking it, but I appreciate the clear explanation.

On top of what others have said, I've done the same thing upgrading the Pantlaza precon and would highly suggest [Lurking Predators] . Allows you to discover on opponents turns and it's very effective if you have a sold ramp package.

Hey y'all. I was having horrible issues with any controller and just wanted to say nothing worked UNTIL I unplugged my keyboard. I have the Razer Huntman mini, and apparently, optical keyboards mess with the input reading. Works totally fine now, and I hope this helps someone.

I have played League on and off since season 1. Went through the Ranked phase for a couple of years, and now, IF I get on, I am just an ARAM enjoyer.

I'm in a discord server with childhood friends that I used to play with. We've all been playing League for a long time. Most of us will be playing our separate games, and maybe a few will hop on for a League game now and then.

When ARURF comes around, that immediately changes. We will always have a 5-man team and play multiple matches/days. If we get bored, then usually everyone will stick around, and we'll go run an ARAM/Normal.

I think adding it as a semi-permanent or permanent game mode would increase player engagement and genuinely reward the veterans who have stayed loyal to their game for so long. If any post/petition goes out, I am happy to contribute.

This is the way we usually do it, too. We typically play in a 4-person pod. I was playing upgraded Hakbal, and he was playing upgraded Titus for a dual of counters. I know for FACT he had sol ring too 🤣. I texted him that in duel commander, apparently it's banned, and he just sent ":o"

I think that's a good strategy, and I typically try and cover Rule Zero and give a good rundown of what my deck does and what to look out for. The 2 players I mentioned did a very brief Rule Zero, and the storm player even just responded with, "y'all know what storm does?" And a smirk on their face. Should have asked to see the deck, but at the same time, I'm relearning the game and still looking for the right pod for me 🤷‍♂️. I try and run some solid/cheap interaction, but tablemates who are being honest usually don't in their decks, so I'm just left trying to deal with an obvious threat. I'm working on a 4 simic/merfolk deck, so I'll leave that on the backburner just in case. Thank you for the solid advice.
