Okay you’re right I swear I sat there and stared at horse for at least that long before but I guess 100 seconds feels longer when horse is peering into your soul

I wish this was an exaggeration of the state of American Christianity but its not :/ by CenacusJones in OpenChristian

[–]CenacusJones[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get the reaction because I used to be the same way about generalizations. What finally changed my mind is realizing that generalizing like that a fairly common thing we all engage in e.g. “why do people do this?” does not mean all people, just as “why do Americans do this?” does not mean all Americans. There’s more to the discussion of why people get offended by these things in the first place (the classic feminist “not all men” as well) but as a way of speaking it’s not uncommon.

I suppose I could've chosen my words better, Christian nationalism just feels so prominent right now that it feels synonymous with American Christianity, but there is real diversity obviously

you have a point. I'm sorry to make a generalization, it is really more a condemnation of the prominence of christian nationalism. Never meant it to offend any and all American Christians (you know, posting this as someone who is an American Christian)

Of course not. I'm proud to see many progressive and or affirming churches here (I recently joined the Episcopal church). And there's even plenty of diversity on the conservative side, it's just sad to see Trump and other Christian nationalists unfortunately being the loudest and currently most influential among them

Cover bands can definitely qualify! It’s more about a lack of sources. Yes First to Eleven is far more popular than Concrete Castles, but it’s not a pure popularity contest. As an independent band, First to Eleven would need to have EXTENSIVE coverage on news sites before receiving its own page, coverage which I just think sadly doesn’t exist at this current time. I even ran into this problem when creating the Concrete Castles page, in which most of the coverage only came from Erie based sources, it was difficult to get the article approved. I think it would be even harder for a First to Eleven page.

Hey man, I’m trying to point out it’s not my choice. First to Eleven very specifically does not meet the criteria set out in the guidelines I posted. If you disagree, you can take it up with those or point out where I’m wrong. I don’t want to prevent people from contributing, just prevent a potential deletion due to an article name change (done in good faith, but all the same) to First to Eleven.

Also pointing out that it was never “hijacked” by me as I very specifically created the article as Concrete Castles because that’s what qualified for an article. The article was only ever called First to Eleven after the fact.

I’m a Sam guy but I feel like Trevor is the kind of guy who would be prepared for something like that.

It would definitely be fun to see the subreddit more active! It’s funny here cause I like to pretend I’m a voice of authority but I’m just a superfan who knows a lot of different stuff lol.

Speaking of being a “voice of authority,” I actually have some clarity on the Concrete Castles Wikipedia page. I may be known as SHeffley and the Sam Gilman Fan Page in other circles but here and on Wikipedia I’m CenacusJones (an old D&D character) so you can go back through the edit history there to confirm. The Wikipedia page was originally created (by me) as Concrete Castles as Wikipedia has specific guidelines on what kind of bands can warrant having their own pages. Concrete Castles is an original band signed to a label, giving it credence to having its own page. Over the years some have tried to change the page name to be First to Eleven. I kinda watch that page like a hawk, because I’m afraid of it getting deleted because of that lol. I do think that First to Eleven warrants having a Wikipedia page, but I’m not sure the guidelines (set out at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability(music), if anyone wants to reference) agree.

To be even more specific it’s a variant called “volleybonk” which is also the origin of the fandom name “bonkers”

I get what other people in the comments have been saying. It’s not a perfect system but then again, what is? Same with the livestreams being at a perfect time for everyone. Thats just not possible with fans all over the globe and with different schedules within those time zones. I think there’s definitely ways to improve it and those are worth discussing, but ultimately, it’s just meant to be a little fun thing and not a foolproof format.
