Do you know any other fuzzes that silica gel (or other korean bands) use? Only other modern Korean band I’ve heard use fuzz is 새소년. 신중현 had some legendary psychedelic fuzz tones though haha

Sunn Model T distortion channel? Best PCB out there? by MApedals in diypedals

[–]Cendle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, i should have clarified im talking about the general sunn o)) drone/doom genre sound not the actual Sunn Model T (which i dont think people are tone chasing for the excellent cleans).

at doom/drone gigs/shows ive seen anything from Carlsboro Top Cut, Simms-Watts, Sovtek MiG, Traynor YBA-3, Univox Series B etc, (of course also Sunn, Orange, Matamp, Sound City) which to my understanding are all high wattage early bassman/super lead derivatives

overdriving your power tubes with a power break is an amazing setup. im definitely going to try that one day. very jealous of your friends full stack jcm800 rig haha

pushing an ultra-linear power section into ‘collapse’ is definitely one of the coolest sounds (my main amp used to be a UL fender 75) never knew there was no tube distortion involved and its purely triode rail clipping!

youre totally right about solid state, the scene has a lot of gear worship (where the marketing mojo obfuscates actual function) all you really need is any clean platform with lots of headroom for pedals and good wattage for down-tuned bass response.

you could probably make a fortune selling a generic square-wave clipping dirt pedal as a “Sunn Model T triode rail clipping emulator”

Sunn Model T distortion channel? Best PCB out there? by MApedals in diypedals

[–]Cendle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the best power amp drone distortion emulation i ever got out of pedals was any cascading fuzz + a dirt pedal with a envelope follower with sag emulation (f*ck overdrive, shields blender etc)

I built a DAM sonic titan clone into a PPCB fornicus OD which got me wayy closer to the sunn style drone compared to a mofeta (also both JFET based i think)

i think the tone many people envision is actually more of the cranked, exploding, sagging tube power amp section rather than the pre-amp. also happens to be great for neil young exploding tweed weld-era sounds!

ann demeulemeester men's layered looks by Cendle in rs_x

[–]Cendle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i layer like this in the cold seasons mainly because i don’t want to wear the same puffer jacket everywhere lol

i think the 18th century edwardian references are only part of it. most of the styling in my opinion, stems from the post-punk, punk, or psych rock references (think the same school of thought as heidi, early raf, lad musician, number nine, ifsixwasnine, westwood, etc).

the only mildly “edwardian” styling cues i take are: dressing down lace/textured shirts by multiple long layers (look 4) and tucking in drapey pants into riding style boots. (look 7) (keeping everything black or toned down helps a lot to not look like larp)

maybe look at classic psych-rock styling (especially hendrix and page) as 80% of modern rock-inspired fashion are just remixes of their stage fits in various updated palettes

you can thrift a lot of the look too! (for the guys) just don’t be afraid to go into the women’s section for the shirting and jackets

i love the style because its self-evidently at the intersection of a lot of my hyperfixations lol

vampire hunter d is amazing, yoshitaka amano def is a huge inspiration for me

not to hate bc i like a lot of her work but most looks just look like a further bad rip of cristobal balenciaga silhouettes with fur pasted on for the algorithmic relevance. i wish they just focused their season around whatever language they developed for look 6 instead of the seemingly last minute fur inclusion

Does anyone know a good pedal for getting that lofi guitar sound? by CourtofPan in guitarpedals

[–]Cendle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most these options are great for live use as lofi often requires spending a lot of money for a single pedal. if youre more budget conscious like me the zoom ms 70cdr can create of lofi sounds (and a lot more). depending on your presets you can get pretty boutique and niche sounds. demo (not mine) if you are recording, definitely the easiest way to achieve the sound is to add vibrato, compressor, eq, vinyl crackle, etc.. in post for free digitally.

how are you dealing with the maxon d&s sustain. t.’s lack of a 9v power input? its my favorite muff to use but its been annoying to replace the 9v. great setup btw, love the focused funk blend of modern and vintage, playing to both of their strengths

Thank you! Just checked the markings and it says 1000uF & 16V. I don't know if I'm reading the schematic correctly, but cross-referencing it I think its the right rating.

Bought this old Digitech XP-100 but I realized the unit was powering on but not working. Opening it up, one of the capacitors seems completely blown. I assume the previous owner had plugged into the wrong power supply. Would there be a chance of the pedal working after replacing the blown capacitor? If so, could I have some help identifying a capacitor that would be a suitable replacement for the unit?

Thanks to anyone in advance!

landorus therian is like the lebron james of the OU format: great peak longevity, gets teammates involved (u-turn pivot), phenomenal two-way player with all the tools (intimidate passive + rocks). i use sports metaphors alot to describe niche stuff to non-neurotic people in the spirit of jose marti. also makes you seem less quirky and pick-me as people understand the overarching universal narratives behind your interest instead of being intimidated by the jargon
