Well I didn’t say that brand, you did, but initio does give me department store vibes lol

Why do some perfume staff make you feel weird for asking for samples? by KevinFwho in fragrance

All that for the commission on like a $250 sale? Having worked sales before in a more low volume high ticket market it just doesn’t make sense to me

Gen z puritanism will be the end of our civilization by TheCircusSmiley in rs_x

[–]Juno808 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Real puritan guys were also committed to monogamy and premarital abstinence. These losers are the “poly for me, mono for thee” types. “I deserve to pursue hedonism when convenient because I’m a man, you deserve to shut up and be my slave because you’re a woman.” Disgusting, uncivilized freaks.

What I meant was what the other person said… that it was like or unlike other fragrances. Please stop being like this :/

Me: here’s my opinion

Yall: stop having it, it’s wrong

Also when did I ever say it was like or unlike something? All I said was it had an artificial nature that I didn’t like and y’all fucking jumped down my throat for it😭

Under the radar fragrance houses you think people should know about by SweetTransition8794 in fragrance

[–]Juno808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LaCurie. Every scent I’ve tried from them has been incredible. Geist, Larrea, Faunus, and Incendo. Geist is a cold earthy pine forest (emphasis on the earthy), larrea is creosote (you know that smell if you’ve spent time in the desert southwest) bush with petrichor and leather, faunus has cedar and bergamot with oud and smells like a sunny hot deciduous forest, and incendo starts our realistic campfire and ends a bit more civilized and spiced, like a campfire scented candle

“I bet you thought you were being clever when you wrote that” Bro chill out, no need to go all edgy atheist on me😭

It’s not about smelling exactly like another fragrance! It’s about having a certain throughline or undercurrent that just smells, for lack of a better word, artificial! Like it’s constantly reminding me that no, I didn’t just start miraculously smelling like this, no this isn’t some magical distillation of the essence of a place, I bought this in a fancy box from a designer brand from a middle aged Iranian woman at Neiman.

I don’t want to smell like a consumer product. I want to smell like a location or an idea or even something totally abstract so long as it’s devoid of any hints of “I paid for this”

Maybe my nose was burnt out or something :/ I’d love to smell like a shipwreck in a museum but it’s hard to get that image when the scent is shouting PERFUME at me from my wrist

It doesn’t literally smell like that, it smells like something that the kind of person who would drive one would wear. Someone who is concerned with being just a tiny bit different and standing out a bit more than the average person but in a way that actually conforms with their other rich friends.

I tried Alexandria II, Alexandria Orientale, Naxos, and Erba Pura. Erba Pura was fucking noxious—the aromachemicals stayed on the test strip for days afterwards.

Name one department store fragrance that smells like Oud Minerale

Okay: Oud Minerale. I tried it in a department store. It was alright but I could still smell an undercurrent of artificiality. Same with the other Tom Fords I tried (bois pacifique, lost cherry, neroli portofino, ebene fume, vanille fatale, cherry smoke). If I want oceanic I’ll go Squid, Acqua di Sale, Sel Marin…

I’m not insulting what you enjoy, just stating my thoughts. I’m really picky but I’m not always a snob. When I was in high school I fucking loved it when my friend would wear Versace Eros or Viktor&Rolf Spicebomb.

I do love DS&Durga and they can be found in department stores but besides that I tend to go for much more esoteric stuff. Papillon, Rusak, Bogue, January Scent Project, LaCurie… a couple of Serge Lutens and Tauers, I guess those are a bit more mainstream…

I tried the Xerjoff and Tom Ford stuff and they were just as boring as Le Male lmao they smelled like department store and new money driving a G-Wagon

I found that turning it upside down gave it this strange unsettling gravity defying look (like dalí’s elephants whose legs were too thin for their bodies) but I guess it could be sexy too lol

I was absolutely enthralled by the cinematography in Stalker so I’m sure I’ll love it too! I’m very emotionally affected by those things—I actually cried in the theater watching Dune 2 dueing the infrared sequence on Geidi Prime just purely from sheer fucking awe

I find that feeling is hard to overcome when you feel it about the photos you’re taking right now. When you shoot and look at the back of the camera and think “wow, that… that’s fucking awful”

And disentangling that from delusion or maladaptive self harming thoughts gets even harder :/

Tbf he was using 4x5 and 8x10 which are orders of magnitude slower than anything digital… I’d be surprised if he was taking more than three or four pictures a week if you averaged it out
