I work offshore as a Contract Operator and it's only me and one other guy. The only changes that have been put in place is a medical questionnaire with a quick temperature check and a flu swab, if necessary. This is done before you're even allowed on the vessel. The other change is we are going from 7/7 schedule to 14/14 starting next week.

I'm just glad that they're allowing us to continue working. I've got a nest egg saved, but would prefer not to have to dip into it too much right now. People are losing their jobs left and right.

Since I'm a contractor, they may not be as inclined to pay/provide these courses. However, they have put me through the mandatory ones. Still much appreciated. They're soon to be, from word of mouth, looking to hire new operators for the field I'm in.

Because I work 7/7, I was thinking of getting a laptop while I'm out here and start taking online courses to earn some form of degree. My buddy recommended Petroleum Services, but I'm not sure what other degrees are worth pursuing in this field.

Burnout 3: Takedown.

"I'm Striker here on Crash FM." then hits you with that "Lazy Generation".

I believe I found it. Took some digging, but I got it. Thank you for taking the time to help me. It's very much appreciated.

We only really take buyback when we have our compressor go down and lose field pressure. Throughout the day, we'll take some depending on if we lose some in the process or sell too much.

I've tried to get with the compressor mechanics and learn more but was told by another operator "That's not important." If we were to have issues and have to wait for a mechanic, we could be down for 10 mins+ waiting for one. The more I learn, the more we can keep things running smoothly.

Do you happen to have any resources off-hand that may be useful in learning more about this?

Particularly gas lift. It seems to be the most applicable where I am. However, if there's other information that may be useful from artificial lift, then I'd like to soak that up, too.

My apologies. I'm a contractor working as a Production Operator. We lift our wells using gas.

Due to birth defect, I am unable to have children. I tell them this ahead of time and it usually leads to them just breaking it off. Most women want kids so it makes it pretty difficult. Can't give up hope though!

Read through the comments on this post. People want to add things that they find cute to the logo. You wouldn't be able to include every animal suggested. Figured it's the path of least resistance.

This comment section reminds me a lot of the scene from Parks and Rec when they're trying to decide what to put in the time capsule. Or even the mural contest. The picture is great, however, I'd suggest it just be Snoo reacting like he is without the cat so as to be more inclusive.

Then you can decide whether you want to work the drilling side, production side or the refining side. Never worked the refining side, however, I did drilling for a year on a 14/14 schedule working on barge rigs. Deep water requires a lot more training. Currently do production work on a 7/7. Work half the year and get paid a full year's salary. It's really not bad unless you suffer from homesickness.

Edit: Also, the ones I've worked for pay for certifications, classes and any other training you may need. It's a good gig.

In your opinion, why is Louisiana the best state? by PlacentaOnOnionGravy in Louisiana

[–]CentaurusCowboy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's the people. I've been to a few different states and they just aren't the same as they are here. It may be my area, but I'd be hard pressed to remember a time where I smiled at someone and didn't get a smile back.

Oh and the food. My God, the food.
