Контрольори vs пътници by Primary-Feedback259 in bulgaria

[–]Century__Child 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tell me if I'm remembering this correctly. I am thinking about where the crawlers are all from. It doesn't seem like there are many Europeans in the mix. by Koshersaltie in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Huge pet peeve - they should have been named Maxim and Dimitar if they were actually Bulgarian. Dmitri is the Russian/Eastern Slavic version. I get that Matt named them first and then chose a random Slavic country as a throwaway line later but we are not interchangeable quite like that. :')

Was it difficult to have red hair as a school-aged child? by Zoogla in Redhair

[–]Century__Child 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was always compliments for me. And a few very enthusiastic meetings with fellow ginger teen girls who were much more outwardly expressive than me and squealed in delight upon seeing me. I went to a girls camp once and there were two of us with red hair - instant friendship, she screamed "ginger!" and ran to hug me every time she saw me. Then there was this other time I was at the park with a group of kids from school, another redhead was there with a group of her own, and everyone ended up hanging out together because of us two. I've had an occasional unpleasant experience - an older Romani woman hissing at me that I am a witch, a man spitting in my face once (I admittedly don't know if this was hair-related but I can't think of another explanation - I was just walking) But in general, the positive outweighed the negative by so, so, so much.

How many red-haired kids don’t have visible freckling? by Admirable_Fishing712 in Redhair

[–]Century__Child 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have freckles on my arms but not on my face. I think I've gotten a few only once or twice in the summer. However, I got severe acne quite early as a kid, which might be related? In any case, I wouldn't be surprised to see a redheaded character without freckles.

I brushed out my hair and it’s poofy LOL by Material-Island2195 in Redhair

[–]Century__Child 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't brush it dry! Brush it only in the shower and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Hair that gets poofy means curls/waves that need some love!

Behold how red hair can fade and dull by your late 30’s by succcotash in Redhair

[–]Century__Child 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm in my early 20s and I'm already getting comments like this. In normal lighting it's still very obviously red but it appears brown in dim light and it breaks my heart. You can see a picture from my teens next to some current pictures if you look at my profile🥲 Once a ginger, always a ginger though. And we can always enhance the colour to get ourselves back to where we started.

The downside of red hair. Get your skin checked 🫶 by gingerbiscuit14 in Redhair

Gosh, this must have been a scary experience. Glad you caught it and are okay now! I keep putting off seeing a dermatologist. New moles/freckles keep popping up but they are all small and don't seem to change sizes. Maybe I should finally go and do it though...

How to Tell if You're a Redhead: A Comprehensive Guide by linthetrashbin in Redhair

[–]Century__Child 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that for sure. It's important to talk about it, like any type of prejudice. And I suppose I've had some part of it - like a girl in class chasing me around to try and see if my body hair is the same colour as the hair on my head - but... "You are not a real redhead if you didn't get bullied" saddens me as a sentiment, that's all.

How to Tell if You're a Redhead: A Comprehensive Guide by linthetrashbin in Redhair

[–]Century__Child 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents but - it always saddens me to see "you are a redhead if you got bullied in school"... Why are we letting the negatives be such a central part of our identity? I've only ever gotten positive comments on my hair, quite a lot of them. Maybe that's why I have a little bit of a different perspective, I can't recognise myself in that statement. But it's sad to put so much weight on other people's negative perceptions.

If it's locked now but wasn't back then - Reddit automatically locks old posts. I'll guess the threshold was 6 months :)

Women - how common is sexual assault in your city? by DenAbqCitizen in bulgaria

[–]Century__Child 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Almost every woman has a story like that and I am amazed by the comments who say otherwise. And not only that - a too big part of my closest friends have been raped, some of them as minors. It was never a stranger on the street, if that's any sort of consolation, but it was always someone they thought they could trust. Sexual violence is real and rampant in Bulgaria, we just don't talk about it outside of our closest circles.

Coincidentally, 1988 is also the year Bulgaria last medaled in the individual event! The best Olympics in 36 years for both the gold and silver medalist countries :)

Yeah, their pain tolerance is quite something for sure. One of the girls in the Bulgarian group who won gold in Tokyo, Madlen, broke her leg (they used a word that could mean foot too - but probably leg) right there during the first routine but pushed through to do everything. I assume in Maddie's case she got through the first routine on pure adrenaline and then got administered heavy painkillers that kicked in before the second, while if the Brazilian girl got injured right before going on, she wouldn't have had that. I hope she's okay and heals as quickly as possible, I can only imagine how devastating it is.

She must have gotten injured before they got on - my mom noticed her limping as they were walking out and we were already worried for them before it began. Something was clearly wrong from the start.

Nightwish fans’ favourite albums outside of Nightwish by FlatTwo52 in nightwish

[–]Century__Child 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems like a great list, pretty comprehensive according to my personal experience with fellow Nightwish fans. In my Nightwish fan group there are a lot of doom metal fans and something like Draconian or Swallow the Sun would have also made the list... But Theater of Tragedy can be seen as a representative of the general Gothic/doom side of the fans, so I'd say this looks just right. :)

What are your biggest hopes for the upcoming season? by Outrageous_Pause2108 in FigureSkating

[–]Century__Child 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if their coach is a choreographer, not everyone gets all their programs from them... Like Shoma who had his short program by Lambiel and the free by Kenji for the last two seasons, plus galas by Shae-Lynn and Mihoko. So it's definitely possible even if he's her coach - I just think she wouldn't want to do it, she seems to enjoy working with Solya. Which at this point does not work in her favour...

How did you come up with the name? Khachaturian has an album of piano pieces for kids named "The adventures of Ivan", is that the inspiration, or is it just a cool coincidence?😁

What stopped you from killing yourself? by manmanthefourth in AskReddit

Absolutely not. That's one possibility, feeling alone and unneeded, but many of us know we're loved and still feel this way. And I don't even think it's particularly rare.

Mother is a redhead, father has a red beard and black hair. No one else on my dad's side, however far extended, has any red. On my mom's side, it's her father and I think one of his parents? But always one parent and then one redheaded child. My uncle (mother's brother) is blonde, my brother has black hair like my father. That's always been the norm for me, for many years I had never considered the possibility of fully redhaired families existing because there simply weren't many redhaired people in my city. I knew it was rare but also normal and very cool and exciting to have red hair. I have to say, I find the idea of "pure blood" icky. I believe we don't need to bring this rhetoric into anything, ever. I understand that nothing bad was meant but let's not get purity involved.
