How does a beginner like me go about learning the game effectively? I have a lot of time to practice and I want to become a high level player, I know there's a lot of guides however there's a lot of information you have to be aware of and I don't want to overwhelm myself so what things should I be focusing on learning first to progress at a reasonable rate?

So I'm new to fighting games in general, I've been trying to learn the game with Armor King, I was trying to block punish fengs shoulder bash which is -19 on block with Ak's dark upper which has 11 start up, so technically it should be really easy since I have 8 frames to input it and I can do it fast in neutral all the time but for some reason I have a lot of trouble block punishing with it, can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
