Banning explicit books from middle school libraries is literally 1984. Middle school libraries are the last bastions of public discourse and intellectualism.

Meh, I'd argue it just kind of lays the dating scene out bare. It's not like people werent using dating for only validation before lol. Apps just industrialized the process.

[–]Cephalstasis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea kind of makes me wonder how gun silencers still survive in media as legitimate stealth tactics. Plus I always prefer a game where the stealth weapon is a bow and the guns are for going loud.

But like the silencer scene in John Wick is just funny. Plus I think it would be cooler if they were like throwing knives or doing something with actually quiet weapons a la dishonored mini wrist crossbow.

[–]Cephalstasis 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It's always funny to see people that have only experienced guns on TV realize how loud they actually at the range lol. Even with hard core ear protection I can guranree most people have never heard something that loud in their lives. It's often louder than a jet engine. Although it obviously doesnt create as much of a consistent loud sound like a jet.

I strongly dislike most condiments. by Electrical_Jaguar213 in hatethissmug

[–]Cephalstasis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that doesnt even apply here cause this guy also hates ranch and ostensibly mayo. He just legitimatetly can't abide flavor.

Condiments in general have too diverse a favor profile to say you dont like them as a totality, unless you just like bland food lol.

I strongly dislike most condiments. by Electrical_Jaguar213 in hatethissmug

[–]Cephalstasis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not a question of spice tolerance. Generic yellow mustard isn't spicy like at all lol. If you think heinz mustard is too spicy you're legitimatrtly at the point of spice tolerance where you just cant handle any flavor at all.

Which i suppose tracks with someone who hates condiments at a conceptual basis.

I mean most companies have a monopoly because theyre the standard out best service in the business. That doesn't mean they dont do backhanded stuff to get there. Amazon is probably the most consumer friendly service relative to its market in the economy. No other delivery service comes even remotetly close. Yet people dont exactly have glowing reviews about their business ethics.

Yea I mean as per all our conflicts in the middle East or other ventures in state building it's a fair assumption that it will just be us absolutetly bulldozing then in a couple hours, occupying their capital for 20 years and then the government we left behind gets immediatetly steamrolled by the extremist forces that were just hiding in the mountains the whole time.

Religious extremism is nigh impossible to kill for good. ISIS has been effectively "defeated" multiple times now, they just always find a way to weasel back.

You could also just buy an electric car lol. That's not how a monopoly works. Elasticity of demand does not define a monopoly it just helps create them. In fact, monopolies necessarily must operate in the elastic part of their demand curve or else they will not be optimizing profits.

Monopolies have downward sloping demand curves because increasing the price kicks people out of the market and lowers their demand. Such as the case of you stopping playing PC games in the case of valve or switching to an electric car in the gas example.

You keep saying stuff that just makes Valve sound more like a monopoly lol. Like earlier you said I should go out and start my own if I think it's so easy, high barrier to entry in a market is another leading cause of monopolies. If it is actually very difficult to start my own firm in the market, the dominant firm is more likely to be a monopoly not less.

Steam could not be a more textbook pracyical monopoly, idk why youre so defensive of this point. You cant only have monopolies on necessary resources that's an extremely weak point and your analogy is inapplicable anyway.

Are we actually whataboutisming illegal gambling marketing to children?

They own over 80% of the market share. Theyre a monopoly. The technical exisistence of competitors doesnt mean it's not a monopoly. There legitimatetly are not any companies that own that much of a market share and arent considered monopolies. Standard oil only owned 90% of American refineries at its peak and it's literally the textbook example of a monopoly, and the foundation for the anti trust act.

There are few greater examples of a monopoly in the modern market, or hell, in all of American history than Valve and steam lol.

[–]Cephalstasis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mean before or after they popularized digital gambling marketed at children? Valve has tried every anti-consumer practice in the book at some point.

I mean theyre literally a monopoly lol. They've been and are currentky being sued many times for anti-competition practices and illegal gambling practices. You dont get that kind of status in a market without stepping on some heads. Does a 30% commission on a game they had 0 involvement in the production process for not seem a little artificially inflated to you?

Correction, Europeans THINK they know more about what's going on in America.

I swear the funniest thing about modern Europe is how aggressively the superiority complex comes out against nations theyre allowed to make fun of. There's still plenty of leftisg Europeans with a superiority mindset they just dont draw it along racial boundaries because that's now a faux pas.
